If your father was born in Poland, then through him you have the automatic right to Polish citizenship. Ask around in Polish areas where you are, for an office which deals in getting a Polish passport for you. In UK, there used to be a travel agency in Tooting Bec, London, which had a separate office that could arrange that. You needed your and your father's birth certificates, and a letter from your father stating how, when and why he emigrated from Poland, and his general life history (a "życiorys"). Well, I'm talking twenty years ago; things may have changed now. Powodzenia.

That's only partly true these days. Three weeks ago I saw old Communist-style (i.e. NO style), sad-looking, grey blocks of flats being insulated on the outside, then painted in several vivid colours. This was in Myszków and Zawiercie.

Life / Expats in Poland - would you fight for your new country? [105]
Is this the era to defend any country in wartime? Apart from the fact that modern weapons can annihilate whole cities, why bother fighting for a nation which goes to church on Sundays and nicks from you Monday to Saturday, chainsmokes, votes for lefty scumbags and gets PiSsed much of the time? I sound anti-Polish here but I'd rather see a return to the pre-WW2 integrity the Poles had for each other rather than the bunch of dickheads which abound today.

Yep, plenty of booze at Xmas here too (if it wasn't for the kids I wouldn't bother :-D)
From today December 1st, in UK, all the decorations are up; at least two weeks before Poland, so it's comparatively more miserable in Poland, and more of a joie de vivrein UK.
Also, we Brits send out our Xmas cards as from the first week of December, so here's mine to you all:

Has anyone heard about what is added to Polish beer? Instead of hops there seems to be a cheaper alternative - brace yourselves - the bitter gall from animals' gall bladders! It makes beer taste and look like it's made with hops, only the gall is more or less free for the beer manufacturers as the meat trade simply chucks it out as offal and is too bitter to be used in pet food. Na zdrowie and bottoms up (dupy do góry?).

Islamic policy for Muslims to marry a non-Muslim, thereby converting them and so doing their bit to increase their faithful. Like everyone else, Muslims come in all shades; from moderate-sounding types like Docstar on PF (most Moroccans and Tunisians are quite laid back), to those you hear about with a weird look in their eye and are oh so willing to kill and die for their religion and turn the clock back cernturies.
