Language / Learning Polish...looking for a software package? [10]

I have tried Supermemo and really liked it. The last time i checked they had a free version which gave you some of the basics. I would also recommend byki.com. This is more for vocabulary. Really recommend you try the games as they do make the vocabulary stick in your head. Again, they have a free version and you can upgrade for a fuller version. I think you have to be online to do the supermemo one but you can download the byki one.

Best of luck.

Language / Learning Polish...looking for a software package? [10]

Hi. Try this...supermemo.net/search/polish

There should be an option for 'Polish - Miniphrase book' and you can access it there. One thing i will admit about this website is that it can be a bir awkward getting to the course. Have a look and let me know if you are successful.

Law / Registering a Business in Warsaw - Location of office? [7]

The first option. I have my business registered in Wroclaw but want to move everything up to Warsaw now. I live in Zoliborz, And idea where that office may be?

Merged: Address in Warsaw for various offices to registered company

Hi. I am about to embark on a company registration process in Warsaw. It will be as a -self employed' entity as opposed to the S.A. type.

Has anyone gone through this recently and would you have a list of the addresses of offices that you need to visit in warsaw?
Many thanks for any help.

Language / Is fluency in Polish for an English speaker possible?! [30]

Rain33, I fully appreciate your frustration in trying to learn polish. It is not easy. But remember, it is all about the ability to communicate and it you dont get the pronounciation perfect, it will not be the end of the world. I am sure you attempts to communicate will be appreciated.

how many non english speakig people do you know, who dont have perfect pronounciation, but can communicate effectively in english??
I dont speak very much polish but have been told my polish is good even though i can speak only a little bit. (I know they were probably just being nice).

Law / VAT number as a sole trader vs a company VAT number in Poland / 'trading as' question [10]

Hi. Just a quick question in relation to VAT. I am set up here as one of the 'sole trader company' types. My personal NIP is used as my Tax number. I have recently been told that as it is a personal vat number, i cant claim back VAT as i need a Company VAT number to do that. 2 questions:

- Does this sound right? (it came from a reliable source so would be be inclined to believe it)
- As a sole trader company set up, can you get a 'company' VAT number or do you need to be set up as a SP Z.o.o type of scenario?

Also, just a quick question in relation to 'trading as'...
- As stated set up a with a company name. I will probably have 2 streams of business - one languages and one IT and would like differentiate in the marketing, while maintaining the core name e.g. abc - IT and abc - Languages.(not actual name but just wanted to give an idea as to what i am on about. Can i do this or do i need to get different trading names? As a sole trader company(or whatever it is called), can you be set up more than once?

Sorry for all the queries, and any direction would be appreciated.

Regards
vincent

Real Estate / Foreign investor, properties in Poland, walk away from mortgages? [209]

Maybe a good start would be to go and talk to your lender to see if your borrowings can be re-negotiated e.g. payment over a longer period etc. I have no idea what the banks' approach to this is but there surely is no harm in asking. And if they seem somewhat un-cooperative, at least then you can get an idea as to what their action would be should you default on yourr mortgage.

Since arriving in poland nearly 9 years ago there has been good times and bad times for holder of CHF mortgages in poland. Maybe if you can come to some aggreeement in order to weather the storm, it would be in both your interests i.e. you and the bank. (though i cant guaruntee the bank will see it that way)

Also just to add one point to the morality/ethics argument.

Dont meant to be harsh but i dont think you will get too much sympathy with this argument. You seem like an educated individual and you would have been expected to review the risks invovled in your investments. And would a more detailed explanation have changed your mind, realistically?

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

Speaking as a non polish person who has lived here for over 5 years, i have to agree in principle with Avalon. I have had a lot of dealings here and very seldom see someone putting their hand up to accept responsibility. However, i have given up expecting it and just appreciate the occasional time that some does take responsibility...along with the few times people say thank you or excuse me.

Travel / Is it safe to travel to Poland? [194]

Hi. As the other contributors have said, you will be perfectly safe walking around those cities. I have been living here for over 5 years and have seldom felt in danger/trouble. Like any cities there are no-go areas but these generally are far from the tourist trail, so you shoule be ok. in relation to your computer, take the same precautions you would in any hotel around the world. I have left my laptop in my case many times in a hotel and i have never had a problem.

In relation to the football games, might be best to check with the hotel etc. Most football games are fine but there are some games which are 'sensitive' due to fan rivalry. But generally as a whole, you should have nothing to worry about.

Enjoy your trip.

Language / Lat V lata [8]

Hi. Could anyone help me on this one....

To say 'For 25 years....', i have been told it is 'Od 25 Lat...'

Is it the same for 'For 20 years..'? Or is it the 'Lata' version?

I just need it for a brochure and wanted to be sure.

Thanks
