Language / Am I the only person that can't sing in Polish at all? [48]

Well, I always had problems with singing in Polish. Especially regarding rock music, I feel helpless.
When I sing in English, every word flows properly and when I sing in Polish, I feel like I lost it.
What could be the reason behind this? Are those consonants that make me sing in Polish awfully?

I think the problem with the Polish language is that the stress falls on the second-last syllable, most of the times, that there are way too many feminine endings (or rhymes, whatever), way too many consonants (seriously, that "prz" thing sounds like beatboxing or awkward sneezing), way too long words etc. I think, grammatical gender also contributes to difficulty of singing in Polish. I say it as a person, who really considers singing in Polish, but finds it difficult, for some odd reason.

When I sing in English, it feels different. Vowels are in the right place, you can play with it, you can experiment with accents, you can manage to sound beautiful etc.

Anyway, that's my subjective impression.

What feels off? timing? Articulation (different for speaking and singing) breath support?

As above.

Do you mean that you're trying to sing translations of songs that were written in English? Or do you mean rock songs that were Polish?

Both. Yet translations from English to Polish sound incredibly awful.

Russian is the opposite - sounds better sung but worse when spoken.

I actually have the same problem. It's pretty audible in Russian rock songs. Polish rock songs mostly don't sound as emotional as Russian songs (I guess, it depends on singer, though).

Here is the comparison - Russian rock: youtube.com/watch?v=Gaag20x0jv8
And Polish rock, pick whatever there is on the playlist, I only happen to like Lady Pank: youtube.com/watch?v=zb9Obfsfhrw&list=RDQMgReWydHMujE&index=4

I noticed also an another thing. Most Polish singers sound as if they do some kind of political commentary. Their vocal range is not really wide. Examples: Kazik (though it really suits him), Marek Grechuta, Grzegorz Kupczyk from Turbo, average Perfect song. I don't know, maybe there are not too much of Polish rock bands, or something...

Anyway, most Polish singers have no soul.

Besides, it seems like in my country there hasn't been that much a tradition of spontaneous singing. In particular neighbors - "Karen" are irritating about this particular thing. They don't like any musical expression at all...

During the pre-war times, Polish language used to sound better, as it utilised the hard "Ł" sound. Examples: Eugeniusz Bodo, Aleksander Żabczyński etc.
The Polish way of singing used to be more emotional. Right now, everybody sounds just lazy in this language...

Language / POLISH 18 - 30 years old know MUCH BETTER ENGLISH language than their own native language! [102]

Sorry to say that, but I think it's because English simply sounds better than my own language (more vowels, diphthongs etc.), has more words, which can be used to describe a certain thing, e.g. in music theory, I can't find the equivalent of the word "slapping", "popping" etc. (I'm talking about the bass guitar). That is why most young people know better English, than Polish... I say that as a native Polish person. Tak mi przykro...

Besides, it's grammar is painfully complex...

Ok, so let's continue this thread.
I also happen to have impression that Polish language sounds really angry and vulgar (e.g. overuse of K-word, P-word etc.).
Basically everybody sounds monotonous and angry, like there are arguing (e.g. about politics).

And that's why I can't sing in this language. It doesn't have a rhythm for rock music. Besides, feminine rhymes (as in Italian) don't fit for rock music. That's why I couldn't listen to Italian progressive rock bands.

So, lemme continue this thread.
I found an interesting article made by Michael (Michał) Lonstar titled: Polish isn't a good language for music.

Life / Synthesizers Manufactured in Poland? [3]

Hello, sorry for an incredibly late response, but I'm interested in synthesizers, too. Thank you for recommendation. I can't answer you question, though.

I always dreamed of having a Moog and it seems I can buy the Polish synths.

ski hump

No, I didn't break my nose. I received that nose and dark brown hair after my dad. My mom has dark brown hair, naturally and a straight nose.

What is "ski hump" nose, according to you?

Thanks for your response.

My parents are from various parts of Poland, Kresy Wschodnie, Mazowsze, Świętokrzyskie etc.

That's a typical skinny Polish "ski hump" nose, not a jewish one.

Can you do the photo comparision of Jewish nose and "ski hump" nose?
Don't use my photos, though.

I don't know, a lot of people have a stereotype that every Pole is blond and blue-eyed and every Polish woman is like that. With a straight or upturned nose, of course.

There is something about that R1A1 haplogroup, eh?

You are right, it's usually foreigners who have that stereotype. But also I hear from Polish people that if you look the way I do, you must have Jewish relatives.

I think, mostly Internet comments I read somewhere. Although I got some remarks at school that I look like a witch.
Anyway, I understand some controversies regarding Polish-Jewish relations, it's a difficult topic. I don't wanna talk about it.
Let's stick to the topic.
My great-grandparents fought against Nazi Germans and my whole family was very patriotic.

Far wider, far wider "button" at the end that goes downward,

@Dirk diggler

Well, not every Jew has a nose like that, though. Some have straight noses, even upturned, I noticed.
Look at those people here.

Maybe closer to Ukranian or Balkan or something...

@Dirk diggler
Balkan is pretty close. Ukrainians are blond, I think, but maybe I'm wrong

I think I also look Hungarian, though I don't have any known Hungarian roots.

Romanian

Yeah, also pretty close. Polish Gorals are apparently of Vlach descent, from what I've read. My surname actually suggests some Romanian descent, even though it ends with "-owicz"

Shame that the moderators merged my photos onto this thread, I could have more fun with those.

Oh, somebody deleted my photos. Well, never mind, I'm gonna have some fun with it, later.
