Genealogy / Piechowski Family [9]

Hello all, I am starting a thread to ask some questions of the forum and hopefully find family members. My family's original surname was Piechowski, which comes from Piechowice outside of Koscierzyna in Pomerania. My male-line ancestor came to the US in 1905 from Nowa Wies outside of Trzcianne. I have seen and read a lot about the family name, and all of it points to the fact that my very distant ancestors were somehow affiliated with the Ostsiedlung and the Teutonic Knights in Pomerania. My first question is, how or why would a family theoretically move from one side of the country to the other before it was easy to do so? Second of all, I'm wondering if anyone has information on the family that I may have missed, or (even better) knows any Piechowscy from the Nowa Wies Trzcianne area (my great-great grandfather had two brothers and two sisters living in Poland when he died in 1950). Any help or input is greatly appreciated.

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

rozumiemnic- If you look at the bottom of the link you graciously provided, you will see that the meaning is unknown. I have heard it may be a derivative of a personal name, so I am consulting more knowledgeable people to confirm or deny this.

Thanks for the replies. Colorone, I have his nationalization records that give his date of immigration as 1905. I haven't yet found him on any ship's manifest but the census data and naturalization records are good for a rough date. There is a book that was published earlier this year about Nowa Wies and I'm fairly certain I found his family, but his name was not given as an emigrant. I'd be interested to work with you and see what we can find... there is a very good chance we are related within the past few generations.
