As for the author of this thread, well I do not know what to think of you, I hope you are genuine here, otherwise I feel as if your thread is trying to attack Polish people and appeal to Western skewed view of Polish as racists whereas it is in fact the Westerners who pioniered and continue to exercise racism to a high degree. if your post is true then I am not too surprised you may think this way, knowing what "white" Westerners have done to your people and their attitudes but you should consider other possibilities as well before you jump to conclusions. If it turns out that your wife's parents are racist then shame on them and you should tell them so, but it may also be that they are open minded and will change their opinion, some Polish people may be concerned because we have not encountered many Negroid people within our borders and so there may be a fear of the unknown. On the other hand, we are known to be welcoming towards everyone and there is only a tiny group thatis purely racist, you can count on Polish open mindedness to differences and tolerance more that that of many other countries especially Western, in those countries there is a lot of talk about freedoms and human rights but not much happens in reality, it is a cover to look good, at least in Poland you are told what people think of you in your face not behind your back, that way you know your enemy, I think that is better than getting stabbed in the back as you woulld in most Western countries.

Both alphabets look interesting, for me the fascination with Cyrillic script is due to it being different to what we, in Poland, are accustomed too and yet being so familiar because it is used to express some of the Slavic tongues. Would Polish look better written as Cyrillic? Perhaps, but a lot has changed within the Cyrillic alphabet and some sounds are not expressed anymore, these would have to be recreated or even new ones created to accommodate for Polish sounds. Polish is actually one of the most if not the most archaic of Slavic languages as it has retained more sounds than other Slavic languages and so it would be difficult transforming its written form.

I agree with you about certain traditions belonging to other religions and cultures and having been taken on by the Catholic Church but the Church does not deny this, this is the normal course of events, new religion always builds itself upon the older religions. The great thing about Christianity is that it features many, many pagan customs so it is not so difficult to accept by pagans and I think that was the idea of the early Christians: to make it more familiar for the pagans.

I agree, but I understand that for political reasons Poland needs Christianity right now, it is our big strength and so I do not want to criticise it because today people do not offer much of constructive criticism on the subject of Catholic Church but only jump on it because it has become a popular trend.

What is falling away? In Poland religion is not falling away, it is a wishful thinking of those who want Poland to fall apart but it is not that easy to achieve in Poland, a country that always gets up from being down, so do not get your hopes up, Poland and its religion are still going strong and neopaganism consists of patriots as dedicated as those on the catholic side, and it is growing in strength, a second powerful wing is growing in Poland that is devoted to protecting Poland's interests so do not be too happy traitor.

I love it when foreigners come here and tell Polish how it is in Poland, this is the impression foreigners get, they confuse our hospitality for weakness and permission to stick ones nose into Polish business, because those same foreigners would not be so cocky in their own country or their country's forums but they think they can say or write anything to Polish people, the arrogance of Westerners is unbelievable, looks like they need to be told sometimes more harshly, syndrom of the rich feeling too confident and superior towards Polish people, it is so evident on this forum.

Maybe so, but there are more and more camping trips organised by the church for young people, students and people in general and the turn out is sometimes so great that there are not enough places to stay. Some of those people are not exclusively Catholic or even Christian but may be agnostic or neo pagan for instance. Some young people leave church to find something else and then come back, the pagan circles do not prohibit the worship of other religions and that helps.

Exclusively Christian would be the fact that all people gather in one building (the church) or near the building to have the food blessed. During Slavic pagan times, the families themselves (usually the oldest persons in a family) blessed their food or later during early Christian times the priest would visit one's home and did the blessing. Also, I do not think the eggs were blessed by pagans, they were exchanged between people and usually buried in the fields but there is nothing about eggs being blessed as it is the case in Christianity. So the blessing of the eggs could be exclusively Christian tradition.

A smart Polish woman who is after stable relationship in a long term will choose Polish man, because she knows what to expect and temperaments usually match as well as culture. In most cases such woman if she only had a choice between Serbian and American she will choose Serbian if he is not typically patriarchal. She will know very quickly that the Serbian man will appreciate her more than the American man. American men are too childish and think that they are superior if their woman is from poorer country. However, is she is a stupid Polish woman she will choose American man, few years later she will regret her decision, because she will realise that Western men can be just as temperamental as Polish men without the compensating gentlemanly factor. Also, she will realise that the so called gender equality so promoted in the West does not eventuate in real life between man and woman, woman is still expected to perform all the house duties and even more and she is not treated as a lady. She will also realise that American men also drink alcohol but unlike Polish or Serbians who drink vodka at parties or sporadically, Americans drink beer almost everyday. Then she will be shocked to know that American men value their male friendship with their male friend more than their woman, it's an Anglosaxon thing. Finally, money is kept separate and Americans are not as generous with spending their money as Polish are. Finally, woman is not the woman of the house matriarchal rule in the house does not apply the way it applies in Poland.

So that is it, personality and character do not play such a factor where all other aspects are considered.

That is because it takes experience and/or maturity to know that nationality is a significant factor when two people get together unless your persona differs so much from those around you that you will feel more comfortable with someone from another country. It may not be a factor if you are looking at it from distance but in close relationship, over time it becomes a huge deal.

Have you known relationships of mixed nationalities that lasted more than five or ten years? How many relationships like those have you known and if so are both parties happy? In most cases in a long run it simply doesn't work. It takes then a lot of compromising for such relationship to work and usually one partner has to be willing to give up much more than the other for the agreement to hold.

It is like that when you are in love and thinking about man as being that companion, it is like that only at the beginning, after time it changes and some things become obstacles too hard to overcome.


These are not the usual compromises though, I think you do not realise what impact culture can have on us and our psyche, how it shapes our point of view, how strongly, this may not be noticeable at first it surfaces later and people become surprised how much influence it has on their own thinking, behaviour and needs and in consequence the relationship.
