History / Why do Polish people hate to be called Eastern European? [120]

but if someone will ask me where I come from I will say

you'll probably say, you come from Poland to begin with. Usually people don't bother using this central or eastern crap at all.

I hate when they call Poland eastern Europe because they are ignorant of geographical facts.

What is it to you, you don't even live here. If you feel so Polish, why don't you come back home then?
They're not ignorant, they're just punishing us for being a Soviet puppet for so long. it surely is their fault too, they could have done more to help us back then but then again, our Armia Ludowa that fought with the Soviets is really responsible for our misery. If not for them, the Soviets wouldn't be able to create their satellite state or practically saying another Soviet Republic and if they stayed here, that would be called invasion and maybe then, the western countries would have done something about it. As it was, Poland was officially a free country and if anyone would have wanted to do something about it, it would have meant another world war and no one in the right mind would be willing to do that.
only in eyes of people who believe in all this Soviet-Polish friendship bullshit. Half of my relatives was erased by the Soviets and you're trying to tell me how I'm supposed to feel about "your friends"?

If they wouldn't help the Soviets, there wouldn't be a pro Soviet Poland. The Soviets would be forced to officially occupy Poland if they wanted to control it. That occupation would have most likely lead to massive protests in the west and who knows what else would have happened. Maybe we wouldn't have to suffer for so long to become what we are right now, a free country.

Of course I said that they occupied Poland. This is exactly what I was saying.

of course they did but Poland became a part of the Warsaw treaty and so called free country, there was absolutely nothing the west could do about it unless they would risk another world war. That's why I said:

"If they wouldn't help the Soviets, there wouldn't be a pro Soviet Poland. The Soviets would be forced to officially occupy Poland if they wanted to control it. That occupation would have most likely lead to massive protests in the west and who knows what else would have happened. Maybe we wouldn't have to suffer for so long to become what we are right now, a free country."

Take your time and read it slowly and maybe we won't have this misunderstanding.
I'm a Pole and I should be happy to hear your compliments but I have to agree with Teffle. It is what it is, great and beautiful for us here but I understand when people who are not emotionally involved with Poland like we are, can have a totally different and mostly realistic impression about Poland and everything Polish. Don't get me wrong, I love this country but I'm not gonna lie about anything here just to prove that I'm a "good Pole".
