some units in those trusts, rather than owning entire funds as Mystic Jimmy claims to

That is true. Otherwise I'd be living in Monaco rather than Warsaw.

you do not purchase an ETF (excuse the dyslexia above), you purchase units in that fund.

They're just Unit Trusts, for small time and inexperienced investors. I used to have some and they're actually OK for safe-ish moderate returns. A very traditional investment in the UK. My granny had some too.

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

Most guns used in criminal acts were obtained illegaly through home invasion or other theft

So too many then.

In developed societies firearms aren't available to steal.

Stop trying to spread your stupid mistakes to more peaceful societies.

People commit those crimes, not the guns

They do it using guns.

Don't insult us by trying such facile 'arguments'.

he doesn't have any REAL money

He lives in a tarpaper shack in a field where he probably buries dead hitchikers and plays duelling banjos.

REAL money

What's left of his wife spends all day on the online slots so I suppose pretending to play the stock market with one of those dummy trial accounts is his equivalent. Not that he understands a word of what he says about the markets. He's not so much a stockmarket wizard as a cut and paste wizard.

Food / Help with Polish recipe - Żurek soup? [25]

just the juice (and apparently some people drink it).

There's something in Scotland called "brose" which is a bit similar. They drink it for health there however you can add whisky and also use it to make a desert with cream and oatmeal.

Food / Help with Polish recipe - Żurek soup? [25]

The tetrapak Żurek from Hortex is pretty good if you dilute it down.

Not very Polish, but sometimes I make żurek with mushrooms (pieczarki not grzyby). They're a good match.

Work / Popular Food Delivery Apps in Poland? [4]

Pyszne, Uber Eats (Poland

I've used both and they're much the same.

It's better to order direct from a place you know and trust.

Food / Polish mustards [134]

I'd guess that after a few months or even weeks it's not as fresh as when the jar was first opened. And it probably contains preservatives which fresh mustard doesn't.

Polonia / Polish bus crash in Croatia. Is there a fate? [228]

Is the verdict fair?

These awful tragedies happen. There was a similar case where a tractor driver in the U.K. was jailed for a long time due to causing a crash because he was using a mobile while driving (in Britain if you're in a crash and were using your mobile - they always check - you'll be locked up even if the accident wasn't solely your fault) and there's been an arrest this week of a guy in a fancy BMW who caused a crash on a main road I know very very well where 6 people (a couple and a family of 4) were killed.

A life sentence seems harsh however it's not possible to decide without knowing the facts of the case.

Life / Do colored immigrants in Poland function better than in Western countries? [256]

Due to numerous scandals and poor quality

Seeing all the frozen doner blocks in Makro is depressing, especially due to the big difference in price. The cheapest ones can't be good. Also, the traditional dislike of lamb in Poland means that they miss out on a lot of flavour.

a properly prepared kebab can be very tasty.

The best ones I've had in my life are either from a suburban kebab shop in Kuwait City or the old Greek Cypriot ones (all lamb with fresh thyme) in the U.K. years ago.

There was quite a nice one in the old station buffet at Dw. Gdański in Warsaw however I think it's gone now.

Food / Polish mustards [134]

All ready made mustard has a relatively short lifespan. The 'kick' (and the flavour) goes very quickly. That's one reason (perhaps the main one) that people in Britain tend to favour making it freshly as in the photo in post 35.

Sorry, I dilute paint with some thinner in this manner you advise but doing it to mustard would be sacrilege

Not so much sacrilege as normal. Mustard is essentially a type of flour and hot water makes the grains swell, You can also use (mild) vinegar.

Real Estate / Housing crisis in Poland. [26]

Looks like it. The article explains more.

There's a company in Britain that makes houses of a similar size shaped like igloos and made of recycled rubber from car tyres. A small one is fine for one person, a two storey one is ok for a small family and you can connect them with others as your family grows.

I'd feel claustrophobic however in a lot of the world, people live in homes smaller than that.

And they're easy to demolish. Since 2000, there have been too many suburban looking bungalows in Poland with no architectural merit but unfortunately well built and therefore a hassle to replace with something better.

Where?

Everywhere. Popular in Poland and some of them quite good.

Life / The Legacy of Polish Poster design [36]

this art form from Poland

The museum of posters in Warsaw is small but worth a visit. Occasionally there are larger exhibitions at bigger museums and galleries.

You can quite often buy them in good condition and I'd guess (being finite) that they might be a good investment for the future as well as nice to have framed in you4 wall.

Real Estate / Housing crisis in Poland. [26]

A house rather than housing.

It's had quite a bit of publicity and was built by a local artist. It probably won't last that long but is fun to see.

News / Polish castle to be demolished? [4]

Why would they do that?

Lack of planning permission probably.

Personally I'd let the building stay under strict conditions, although it shouldn't have been built there in the first place.

Travel / Transport adventures in Poland [99]

behinds

slippery

You think of nothing else.

particularly in Northern Sudan. Those fanatically adhering to
their religious beliefs

Last time I went there (in 2011), I was sat next to the Orthodox Archbishop on the plane. He was certainly religious (probably a fundamentalist too) and had a long beard and funny hat.

South Sudan would be much safer. Saveges are primarily Christian

The only South Sudanese people I've met weren't 'savages'. They were religious though. Protestants as I recall.

Shayk's

Who is Shayk? Is he a member of your Swingers' Club.

It does in this case since the council are proactive.

That is far from universal.

They'll just end up as overcrowding. There are already flats that small and many nearly as.

By all means build very small homes where people want that size. They are usually built that small to maximise profits at the cost of quality of life.

Off-Topic / Let's talk about shoes [334]

Clarcs

There were Clark's and K in the U.K. One had their own shops, the other didn't, This was all years ago though.

There was also a chain of shoe shops, one in every town, called Lilley and Skinner. I've not even thought about them for decades.. All gone now.
