having said that 11hr of 11th month I genuinely feel pride and sorrow..But mourning over another countries dead (apart from 9/11) I wouldnt even bother...

The dead are the dead. Have you ever stood in tyne cot cemetry when the last post plays? In the center of the British cemetry are some graves of german boys,every one in that place was someones (tragically young,like 15 in some cases) son,not the psychotic generals or old pervert criminals in charge,just dead.

Why not let a nation grieve in peace. Maybe Im being very English here..but I dont think they really care what outsiders think at this moment in time.

No,but the gesture wil be long remembered.
saying that though,maybe we are just to British because I always find these "days of mourning" rather ,well,its hard to say......well,

Wrong. Hollywood raved about Poles untill the Soviet union got involved in the war in 41(blah blah"but 1939 they invaded Po......) and the left leaning script writers turned their praise on the plucky soviets,dropping the "plucky" Pole as a stock player....name a single hollywood movie rom the war years that paints Poles as bad people,go on.

When I said,anyone for tennis it was,in keeping with the thread my example of taking the p!ss out of my own nation, "we" invented the game,yet,who just won Wimbledon? Yup, A Serb and a Czech ;) "We" havnt won it since the 1930s !! :)

I could have said cricket,British game..........well,English game yet in the world even the Dutch seem better than us at it at times....:)

Nope,the modern olympics were invented in Much Wenlock in 1850,not london,plum.

In meantime Poles were fighting their insurrections against Russians. With few exceptions - Ogiński's Canal (1765-1783) and Kanał Augustowski was built actually much earlier (1825-1830). So nothing to be ashamed of.

WTF was all that about ? Talk about chippy inferiority complexes coming to the fore.....................

I put those up not to have a go at todays japanese in any way,just as a counter to lodz's rather rosey view. One I know me and you have both seen from Poles before. I really do wonder if they are taught anything about the war in the Far East? Ive noticed Polish Americans dont have the same collective blindness to Japans brutal past :(

My only problem though was,when placing my 6 pounders in the their historical positions they were always destroyed imediatly .....ah well ;)

Sounds like a plan,'cept Im not really one for pulp fiction,even if it has achieved a certain cache it does not deserve purely for being a book of choice for victims of hippie counter culture.....besides,just checked,its a 3rd edition.........oops,my bad,better dig out my battered old copy of Candide and other short stories,with,surprising familiar foot notes to some posts Ive read on here lately, instead. ;)
