Food / Poland-Tea or coffee land? [165]

I know a lot of Poles that drink Inka

I wouldn't say a "lot".... I personally don't like it, it tastes like weak tea mixed with weak coffee..... brrrrrrrr

I think of it as an ersatz product that developed a following on its own.

but tea isn't for health maintenance

Not everybody does but I remember anytime I'd say I wasn't feeling well I'd get lots of recommendations for some kind of herbal tea or other (lipowa being especially nasty and having no discernible effect, ime)

Food / Poland-Tea or coffee land? [165]

Most Poles I know are coffee drinkers and the ones I do know that drink tea

Brits (like russians and Turks) seem to use tea more for its stimulant properties (it's a caffeine carrier)

Germans, on the other hand think of it as a general health promotion aid which is why they have so many different herbal things that I think Brits don't even perceive as tea.

Poles split on coffee and tea.

Coffee is for caffeine and tea is for health maintenance and/or home remedies.

So they're more like Southern Europeans using coffee to get revved up in the morning but more like Germans regarding tea.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation - part 2 [816]

Bolt upright stance?

One meaning.

A broader meaning can be found here: wsjp.pl/haslo/podglad/18023/jakby-kij-polknal

"w sposób sztywny, pozbawiony spontaniczności, nienaturalny" (in a stiff, unspontaneous manner, unnaturally) which is closer to the context I first came across it in a detective novel (complaining about a colleague's over-bureaucratic manner of speaking).

ussia is currently ruled by criminals who don't mind killing Slavic people.

When has ever _not_ been ruled by criminals who don't mind killing Slavic people?

Really... name the time period and government involved....

Pan-slavism is as dumb as pan-arabism.... you might be able to cobble together something withe countries with generally similar values to Poland but no way can/would russia be involved.

Life / A warning to Poland: Germany's catastrophic immigration policy: 80-90% criminal manhunts are ARABS / foreigner [83]

socialism... requires of the government, thereforethe society at large, to take care of her fellow citizens and make basic human services,

Socialism means the means of production are owned by the government. There has been no communist government (the means of production are owned by 'the people') only socialist.

And it's been a disaster everywhere it's been tried.

Some people refer to capitalist systems with strong social safety nets as socialist but that's wrong.

ussr = socialist

prl = socialist

'communist' china - socialist

sweden - capitalist

They have much nicer stuff there.

I wouldn't count the Hungarian version of pasta and white cheese among them... I think they only have the sweet version.

I love lots of Hungarian food but there are... limitations. They pickle many more different kinds of vegetables than Polish people do (including very small whole watermelons, plums and other things) but they pickle everything in the same sweet vinegar solution so in a way there's less variety.

And tripe was a disappointment...

But I love tarhonya (kind of like Polish żabki or very large couscous but browned in oil before being boiled).

The middle bit definitely looks like some sort of filling.

To me it looks like a sandwich (dark bread) with some kind of salad... I see carrot, cabbage, not sure what the white strips are. It looks like it's been cooked.

We'll make it right.

By shooting down more airliners? It's the 11th anniversary of russian scum shooting down flight MH17..... and then they proudly posed in the wreckage and held up the toy of a child they killed (technically it might be different russians who shot down the plane vs those that celebrated it).

We have a deep, deep, debt before the people of Kherson.

You have a deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, debt before the people of all Ukraine... to get out of Ukraine and to leave them alone to run their country as they wish.

russia has nothing positive to offer Ukraine (or any other neighbor).

I refuse to believe that there is a unit on the Dnieper that uses Khersonian civilians as hunting exercises.

They don't hide it.... they publish the videos on telegram to raise money...

doing immeasurable damage to the cause.

What is the cause that neither you nor your dwarfish little tsarek can articulate?

the cause does immeasurable damage to the cause because it is intellectually and morally bankrupt.

News / European News and Poland Thread - part 4 [917]

needs to be obeyed until/unless it is reformed

I think what's going to happen is that countries will simply start ignoring it since in the current context it's absolutely against the national interest of too many countries.
