News / European News and Poland Thread - part 4 [305]

I feel better off now than I have ever been!

I'm presuming that you don't have to worry too much about finances then.

I sold my business but also because I have two good pensions and no mortgage or debts to pay.

I rest my case. Not everyone is in your position.

I certainly don't feel better off and amongst my social circle nobody else does either.

I live here and I would say the majority of Brits are happy to be out of the EU.

So do I and I am not happy to be out of the EU.

Please tell me how badly the UK economy is doing since Brexit

The lungs would be from livestock so it's not like the animal is going to be sat in the house with a smoker......

You've eaten brains and you've eaten steak tartare if I remember correctly. Raw meat can contain salmonella, E Coli, etc but you're fussy over eating lungs? Strange.

I prefer brain, liver and kidneys.

I've never tried brains. I'm not overly keen on liver but I love kidneys.

You should try the lung pierogi.

I don't think of that as overly sweet...

For me, yes. The few American cake/dessert recipes I've tried have been heavy on the sugar. Not to say that other countries don't have sweet cakes too.....

I haven't heard of Sicilian cassatina but the marzipan would make me want to try it.....

??? I have no idea yet.

You've never tried this?

To be honest the thought of trying lungs was a bit off-putting but I really love these pierogi.

News / Poland says no to flood of Immigrants [670]

I suggest you watch the whole video to educate yourself on the topic.

The stats in it are outright lies.

Included within the article are links to the Netherlands and Belgian statistics office with the official data.

That's got a definite 70s vibe to it.

American cakes in general seem far too over the top for me.

For me they're too sugary. I once made a Red Velvet Cake for a friend's birthday and found an American recipe for it. I don't like that cake much anyway but for me it was way too sweet. She loved it but I could barely eat it.

Polish cheese cake can't even hold a candle to New York cheese cake

I would have to disagree. For me, that type of cheesecake is too rich and creamy. Polish cheesecake is not as dense and 'heavy'.

Just demonstrating a little local pride

Nothing wrong with that!

You mean those beef wrappings, stuffed with pickled cucumber???

That's the dish although I've had it with other fillings not just pickled cucumber. I think there's quite a lot of variation with filling content.

I also really like Pierogi Ruskie and the pierogi stuffed with lung although I've forgotten the name of it now.

What's your favorite Polish dish?

That's a tough one. There's a few. If I had to choose it would be Zrazy.

Sernik for dessert.

when I was up over $10,000 profit on VUG and up over $11,000 profit on VOO. 😏

If you're that well-off then perhaps you could donate more than a measly $5 to PF.

the brother and sister duo from Kwiat Jabłoni aka Apple Flower are children of another popular musician - Kuba Sienkiewicz,

I posted about it a few months ago. They're also related to Krystyna Sienkiewicz:

What if you eat it every day like peasants in the prewar period?

But you're not going to do that.....

I liked it because it reminded me of greens which aren't really a thing in most of Europe

I've never tried any of the greens you mentioned!

dill

I like dill but I have to say I think it's a bit overused in Polish cooking. It seems to go in everything.

I have never made it myself due to its harmful effects.

I think you would have to consume it in large quantities. I doubt a bowl of soup is going to do much damage.

Then as a Polish bar to appeal to the local Polish population

That's what happened to one of the restaurants here too. Guess they were trying to just stay open but it didn't last long. Same with the Polish shops. We had 5 in a small area and now there are 3 remaining.

It does look nice though and I'll try and go next time I'm there

It's a good menu, there's a few things I'd go for for on it.

If they depended only on Polish customers, they would go bankrupt soon.

Always best to diversify ;)

sorrel

Never tried it. Or know anyone else that's made sorrel soup for that matter.

we both got mesmerised by the flute section in this song:

It's a good song.

I somehow missed the flute in there

Words fail me!

The Kult song reminds me of 70s prog rock.

Mela Koteluk

I like her music too. With the exception of the first song, I enjoyed all the others.

Yes it is. I'm testing resizing my photos on PF's link to a new site. Works on photos on my laptop but not from my mobile.

Rosół and schabowy are a typical Polish dinner.

I know, but how many Polish Americans generations later still eat traditional meals?

They had a mix of Polish dishes, English ones and international ones like pizza, pasta, burgers.

The couple of restaurants near me used to serve up very similar. Both have shut down now though.
