I'm really not sure how Republicans and PiS align, apart from in the usual irrational fear of gays and Jews.

Republicans are afraid of Jews? For that matter, PiS is afraid of Jews?

So in your eyes me, a nice guy liked by many people, don't deserve a hot Polish girl just because of my opinion on non-European p#ssyhunters coming to Poland.

If said hot Polish girl doesn't agree with your opinion, then no, of course not.

99.99% of aforementioned hot Polish girls, are hooked up with very pasty white guys. What's your excuse again?

Law / Polish EU Drivers Licence - can I get one the easy way (by paying for it)? [185]

Then again, I'm just as guilty - speed limits? what are they?

They're the things that you don't reach, come'on man up, you drive like an, ahem, elderly lady :)

That is why I am very happy to go to work these days by tram and bus :)

I go to work by foot, sometimes pass out at work. But nothing better than a motorcycle for the city. Full of adrenaline, near death experiences, good fun.

Oh, and kids following us at home. You can't put points on a US drivers license. No use in even switching it over.

But for some strange reason he keeps getting special treatment where he can go on and on attacking Polish people using slur words like "Polack" but God forbid somebody has the opinion that delphiandomine's ancestry is "Russky" and that he is a plastic Russky.

Is it such a terrible slur in the states? If so, what are your thoughts on Polock Johnny's in Bawlmer?

Since Russia has been largely involved in the history of Poland (negatively) would it be OK if I start a topic called "Russkys/Plastic Russians/How Russkys distort their identity on forums to bash Poles"?

Sure, but I think it's Russkies.

i read elsewhere that it was possible to get a license in poland for reasonable money.
anyone from poland here that knows about this?

Might be an idea to ask there. The people that live in Poland that have answered here have said it's not going to happen. I guess you could walk into a drivers course and offer them a massive amount of money and hope for the best.

I won't force it upon them but, I will never throw away an possibility for Lithuania and Poland to be united again!

They're already united :)

Food / Taste of food in Poland vs other countries [186]

I'm not saying, like a lot of expats do, that you can't get decent foreign cheese in Poland...it's just that there is a limited choice and it's very expensive.

Alma has a decent cheese counter.

Travel / Best Places to eat in Wroclaw [24]

There`s a phenomenal pizzeria in Biskupin but it has NO name.

Apparently it's got a name, CiaoCiao. It is very hard to find though. Doesn't help that they have some sort of windsurfing ad on the closed door. They're advertising has expanded to include a fold up sign out front that just says CaioCiao and points to the main entrance of the building.

Anyway, had a good pizza and a pepsi for 14zl. Good service. The guy behind the counter couldn't speak English very well, but his Polish was great... Can't go wrong there. They deliver too.

ciaociao.pl

They even translated instructions for the "waitstaff notification device".

Funny how you picked out people that don't look typically Polish

I think you might be shocked to ifnd out that most Poles probably don't fit your idea of "typically Polish". Europe has been an ethnic blender for thousands of years.

Went to place called Texas Burger Grill or something along those lines at Armii Krajowej 6c. They do burgers and burritos. Had a burger, bun wasn't all that great, the patties were alright, toppings were pretty good. Might be worth a try if you're in the area, not really worth driving across town for..

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Maybe you like getting robbed uk but in America we don't play that $h!+ . You think twice before robbing someone here.

But yet it still happens in the US, and at a rate higher then European countries.

You Americans should leave statistic to someone who knows the math.

So in gun free Poland, the homicide rate is nearly identical to liberal gun law Czech Republic where anyone can buy and carry (and quite a few do)?

If someone needs to seek advice on a forum when they are married to a Polish national, I would question the intentions of his posts.

Dunno, you are still criticizing him for trying to gather diverse opinions. Here it's anonymous, and people can say what they mean. You won't necessarily get the same answer face to face...

it is so much better than 10 or 15 years ago.

That may be true, but I don't think people moving are are interested so much in how far a nation has come, but rather where they are.

20 years ago in the UK,if a black woman/man and white woman/man, where walking down the street, hand in hand, it would turn heads.Today nobody cares, it will be the same in PL in 15-20 years.

The only difference is the number of black people that are in the UK vs Poland. Here you still have a novelty factor, and I don't think that'll change any time soon.

as more Poles work over seas and travel,it opens their minds.

Or seals them up tight. See forum posts for more details :(

be requesting special treatment

Where was he asking for special treatment? Isn't the act of asking for advice fulfilling that whole responsibility to understand the culture bit?

Life / The Polish Dream - move out from Poland as fast as possible [73]

if they (students) paid for their place at university and are then given the money back if they stay after graduating.

What good does it do to have half a million psychologists graduating every year?

Make students pay for their education, easy enough. Student loans, DO NOT SUBSIDIZE EDUCATION! Anytime anything is partially subsidized, its price increases.

There you go :) Thanks for bringing in a bit of sanity.

In fact, about the only thing that makes me mad is the way that some "Plastic Polacks" come into Poland and start telling US how things should be done. I've heard so much moaning from them - that Poland isn't like the United States, that it should do this, that it should do that, that they can't live here because (insert rubbish excuse), and so on.

Softsong summed it up pretty well. Now, a bit less crazy. There are quite a few people who ***** and moan about Poland. Why single out this one group as opposed to everyone who complains?

He may have lived in Scotland but that's not his ancestry. His ancestry is R.......

Sorry man, he's Scottish. Very Scottish (did not get my usual round on the host :) ). And he's got a lot of good folks that would be his "Polish friends", including one that put me up for a night. He didn't seem too upset to be living in Poland at the time.

He is either a total moron for CHOOSING to live in a country he hates

Again, I seriously don't believe that to be true...at all. I think he lives in Poland because he enjoys it. Doesn't mind criticizing what he sees as being problematic to him, and truly enjoys what he has here.

At least that's what I saw...dunno.

Hopefully that gives you a bit of better background.

90%?????? I dunno about that.

Almost certain of it :)

But, haven't you seen all the positive posts/messages of mine?

That's interesting that you looked at yourself based on that comment :) I was talking more about us "bashers", heh.

Dunno, I'd say that 90% of the people that you think bash Poland and Poles are either married to a Polka, or are set to be. With that in mind, do you still think they are bashing Poland and Poles, or is it more of a case of you complain about the bad, and don't mention the good as much? There has to be some reason that everyone lives here, and with, Poles :)

Maybe it's human nature to complain, and not point out every good thing that you come across?

Well said, KazakhAndProud, well said indeed :)

Indeed mighty Kazakh of the North!

Foreigners, while being guests of other nations, should not criticise them too much (especially
if their not fully integrated.) If I visit somebody's house, I will not criticise a dirty floor, or an
ugly picture on the wall. One has to be civil.

How about if you're staying at a hotel? Would you criticize it then?

Honestly, countries are not houses. And yes, if I stayed in a house, and there was animal droppings on the floor, I would make a comment. If the door wouldn't shut right because the trim wasn't fitted properly, I would suggest how to fix it. If the toilet was running because the float was sticking, hell, I might just fix that myself.

Jeez, we're closer to the beginning of the WW3 than one is expecting ;-)

Poles, Kazakhs, and Hungarians, three brothers...

American "plastic Poles" and regular Poles have to stick together against people bashing Polish people!!!

But what if they're not bashing Poland? What do you consider bashing Poland? If I say that the service here pretty much sucks, is that bashing Poland? How about if I say that the Russian military would steamroll over the Polish military? Still Poland bashing? How about Poland shouldn't be a G20 member because....

What's the line between criticism and "bashing"?

In a nutshell there were many political forces for and against it and in the end those who wanted Poland and other East European nations into NATO prevailed.

Regarding NATO, the biggest force pushing for integration of Central European countries was the DoD. They wanted CEE countries in NATO, they were invited to join, not petitioned.

As for your critique on the Polish American community not being able to budge the state department on the visa issue

Get off your asses and do something about it :) Who are the political forces fighting against it?

As for me actually voting in an election in Poland?

And I think that's one of the issues that were thrown out. That all people are lumped together, which is one of my pet peeves. There are quite a few Polish-Americans that vote, but not enough to impact the election at all, so I don't know why that plays any kind of role in the situation here, but hey.

Anywho, like I sad, I'm happy to eat pierogi, or piergoies, or whatever you want to call them as long as they taste like they should :)

tribal solidarity

Barbarians!
In all honesty, I think that bar is way to high before you can begin levying criticism on things. You know, hygiene in Kazakh restaurants isn't that great. I'm not Kazakh, does that preclude me from making that point? Probably not. I can also say that the government there is pretty corrupt, so are the border guards...should I keep my mouth shut?
