Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

only the ukranian and some polish mafia will have them.

That's what we have police for. I doubt it can get any worse than in the 90's.

Since it is not allowed by the Polish government to be put up for a Democratic popular vote I guess we will never know

But we do know - I gave you a link to recent poll results (the poll was commissioned by a conservative newspaper) according to which 70% of Poles don't want the gun laws in Poland to change.

Here's the link in case you missed it:

wiadomosci.onet.pl/kraj/sprawdzili-czy-polacy-chca-dostepu-do-broni-wyniki-badania-zaskakuja/g95yg4l

While 70% do not want gun laws liberalized, 30% is not a number that can be ignored.

23%, not 30%. There's no society where 100% of people agree on everything, but we live in a democracy and laws are usually made according to what majority wants. And 70% is a big majority.

Why don't you care about what majority of people in Poland want? Why do you guys try to impose your mentality on Poles? There's a different reality in Poland than in the US. Our laws reflect that. Poland isn't the US. It isn't Switzerland either...

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

we all recognize how the changes in the family dynamic over the last 30 years, have affected the birth rates of Poland and other countries.

To be honest, from my observation nothing changed that much in this respect in the last 30 years in Poland. My mother did stay home with me and my brother for a few years, but then she went back to work and we were left home alone - my mother asked our neighbour to check on us (I don't remember if he actually ever did that). The only couple in our block of flats where I grew up with a home-stay-mom were our neighbours next door - they had 6 kids with the seventh dying mysterious death when it was an infant (I think my mother suspected that she killed that baby). That mother of six would sit all day by the window and stare at people and then gossip about them with another neighbour. I remember how she was yelling at her kids. Their sons would steal apples from an orchard nearby and come to us to ask for money for cigarettes for their father... As you can imagine I didn't view them as a model family... 🙄

For me it was completely normal that women work. Even kind of expected...

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

it is a tragedy...

ffs

Nothing stops the concerned daddies from quitting their jobs and taking care of their kids. If enough men did that and became stay-at-home dads, women's wages would rise and one income would be enough to support a family, right? :D

Do you all still support equal pay for women?

Of course, ffs.

she just realized she may not be able to have children now at 39 safely

This may be an issue for some, I guess - I'm not sure how many women realise how important the biological clock is for women as far as getting pregnant and safe pregnancy is considered. There probably should be more education about this. 🤔

@jon357, it's not odd at all, you know very well why I mentioned it.

We should of course remember all crimes of fascism, nationalism and totalitarianism as a whole. To understand how they occurred and to prevent them happening again.

Exactly.

Wishful thinking

That's not wishful thinking, but the reality we're living in Poland. Maybe it will change in the future (I hope not), but for now I don't see that happening.

That tells us that the laws will start getting more lacks soon.

I don't think so. This is the latest poll - from October 2022:

wiadomosci.onet.pl/kraj/sprawdzili-czy-polacy-chca-dostepu-do-broni-wyniki-badania-zaskakuja/g95yg4l

70% of Poles don't want the gun laws in Poland to be liberalised. 57,3% think that more lax gun laws would decrease their sense of security - it would make them feel less safe.

Sure, jon357:

Why should we remember about the homosexual prisoners of Nazi concentration camps, right? 🙄🤦

Btw:

grenade launcher

That's the dictionary translation of "granatnik", but is that the right term for what that police chief fired from in English? Judging by the photos, as far as I remember, it looked like an RPG... 🤔

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

How many times have the good guys here used the words, "responsible gun owners" and "law abiding citizens".?

I wasn't writing about gun ownership, but about training. You don't have to own a gun in order to learn how to use it. You can go to a shooting range and pay for training and practice there. It is estimated that there are around 450 shooting ranges opened to the public in Poland and they're being stormed by people wanting to learn how to use a gun since the RuSSian invasion of Ukraine began:

bankier.pl/wiadomosc/Polacy-siegneli-po-bron-i-oblegaja-strzelnice-8304667.html

how would you defend yourself against a guy high on drugs brandishing a knife, joun ?

If that was a common/serious problem in Poland I would probably be the first to get myself a gun. But it simply isn't. Usually the people who have to deal with such cases are police officers and they do have guns. But having a gun in Poland is one thing and using it - is another matter. Even police officers get into trouble because of using a gun during dangerous situations in Poland - I find this more worrying than gun ownership laws. I don't want Polish police officers to be afraid to use guns when it's necessary, especially when someone's life is in danger (most often theirs)...

@PolAmKrakow, as for training - I agree. It never hurts to know how to fire a gun and use it safely.

If you read what I wrote when the conversation was involving drugs and crazed meth heads you will find how it lead to hooligans.

OK, sorry, I haven't read the whole discussion.

@gumishu, "major"? Do they have to destroy the city center so it would "matter" to you? They devastate trains, buses and stadiums on regular basis - those are just a few articles from different years about train devastations only:

And devastations aren't the only problem - I'm sure you realise that hools turn into organised criminal groups:

@gumishu, sorry, but even if that was true (which I doubt) - how on Earth did that gave the hools the right to destroy public property in Warsaw???

And what about hooligans getting arrested for criminal activity these days - are those "PiS provocations"? lol :)))

As I wrote - there's been problems with hooligans in Poland since I can remember. What has PO or any other political party to do with hooligans devastating trains and buses (and stadiums) for years in Poland? Are those "PO provocations" too? Even nowadays? lol

Trust me, hools don't need any "provocations" to show what destructive morons they are.

Not once have I said I wanted a gun because of them.

Why did you write about them then? It looked like you were giving them as an example why one would need to own a gun in Poland...

Btw, there's been a problem with hooligans in Poland since I can remember. It was especially bad when PO went at war with them - they were destroying Warsaw during Independence Marches then. But normally they appear in large groups only if there's a match in the city. Normal people simply avoid them then. Usually they "sing" songs when they come back from a match, so you can hear them from afar, which makes avoiding them pretty easy. And there's no way in hell I would board a train full of hooligans/"football fans" going to or from a match lol I remember reading articles about trains and buses getting devastated, including in my city :( Those morons shouldn't reproduce... :/

A couple hooligans do not scare me when I know they do not have guns.

That's the thing, if gun laws were relaxed in Poland they could get them. There's enough problems with them already - imagine if they started shooting at each other or at other people when drunk or high. We would have something similar to gang violence in the US. No, thank you.

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

I'm guessing that such poll would look different in the UK:

kobieta.wp.pl/polki-rodza-chetniej-na-emigracji-w-polsce-nie-zdecydowalabym-sie-na-dziecko-6832478455073440a

Total fertility rate for Polish women born in Poland, but living in the UK is 2.03, while for native British women it's 1.54. Even British women in the UK give birth to more kids than Polish women in Poland though:

demagog.org.pl/analizy_i_raporty/wspolczynnik-dzietnosci-w-polsce-najnowsze-dane-gus/

According to official Polish data (GUS report from 2021) in May 2020 fertility rate for Polish women in Poland was 1.378.

Conclusion: British "femi-Nazi" women are more willing to give birth in the "woke" country of the United Kingdom than Polish women in the Catholic "pro-family" Poland run by a conservative, anti-woke, right-wing government.

Also, ironically, Poland has one of the most stringent abortion laws in Europe and at the same time one of the lowest birth rates in the EU.

Also:

You are a typical disgusting leftie.

This is pretty funny (and ironic) in a way that right-wingers and nationalists are defending Piłsudski, Piłsudski's May Coup and his persecution of political opponents lol After all, Piłsudski was a member and a leader of the Polish Socialist Party and the May Coup overthrew a right-wing government :)))

cambridge.org/core/journals/slavic-review/article/abs/military-background-of-pilsudskis-coup-detat/38AAB58D3C1E6FA5FF7832FDB0C6AAFA

"Józef Piłsudski, at the head of certain military units devoted to his person and with the enthusiastic approval of the political and social forces of the Polish Left, staged a successful coup d'etat against the Polish parliamentary system dominated since the elections of November, 1922, by an agglomeration of Right-Center political parties."

LOL!

@amiga500, sorry, but most of your comment #141 doesn't make much sense, so I don't even know how to answer it.

Yes. We judge it by the prevailing periods of the time, where it was judged an antrocity and war crime.

No, we judge it both ways - from the perspective of our times and from the perspective of those times (or, rather, we may acknowledge the perspective of those times, while still holding our judgement from our modern perspective).

for being pedos for example. also muhamed

Well, if he f*cked a 9-year-old then he was a pedo - that's a fact. And I don't think there were ever times in the recorded history of humankind when having sex with a 9-year-old child was considered normal by the majority of the society. Besides, there are still places in this world where kids are being married off and even very young girls are forced to have sex with their husbands, so what times have to do with it?

People who condemm pilsudski are traitors

Don't be ridiculous. You sound like some crazy RuSSian nationalist who can't take the criticism of the "holy" Soviet Army, etc.
Pawian acknowledges both the positive and the negative contribution of Piłsudski to Polish history. If you can't do both then you're a mental, intelectual and moral simpleton, imho.

were you there or are you just using 21st century morals to form your opinion?

But we need to see that history through the eyes of the people that lived in that time.
And not with modern perceptions and morals.

Actually, we can do both :)
Besides, there are always two sides of the coin, so if you're serious about "seeing history through the eyes of the people that lived in that time", you would have to view that history also from the side of Piłsudski's opponents and not only from the side of his supporters.

you start off with debasing national history, but you view history through modern perspectives....irrelevant and pointless.

I disagree. We all have the right to have a critical view of history and historical figures. Without that we wouldn't learn anything.

Travel / Do Poles like to hunt? Hunting in Poland. [211]

REALLY !

Yeah... REALLY! lol I've seen it with my own eyes accompanied by the commentary of David Attenborough and the like.

Really
These wolves must be different then.
They went for the guts first on this live MATURE deer.

I don't claim that it never happens that predators feed on prey that is still alive, I've also seen lions feeding on prey that was still breathing (not for long though, obviously).

As for that video you posted - those wolves weren't feeding on that deer yet - they were trying to kill it. They may have been afraid to go for the neck, because the deer could still attack them with it's antlers. Later you can't even see well what's happening, because the bushes obstruct the view. And once the deer is dead they don't even eat it, one goes away and lays down and the other just stands there. This is strange. I wouldn't say this is typical (at least judging by what I've seen).

How many video's do you want me to post of deer being eaten alive by wolves.

Preferably more than that one, because I'm guessing that the wolves in that video were so cautious because there were only two of them and not the whole pack. Maybe also because of the size of the deer. I imagine they would go for the neck if it was a doe though.

So, johnny_reb, could you explain in what area wolves were "planted" in the US?
Paulina
6 Jan 2023
Travel / Do Poles like to hunt? Hunting in Poland. [211]

the deer is usually killed by wolves by the wolves tearing the guts out of the deer while it is alive.

I don't consider myself an authority, but I've seen enough wildlife documentaries to know a thing or two about how predators hunt and kill, no matter whether they are lions in Africa or wolves in Poland. They usually either go for the throat to cut the artery, brake the prey's neck or put the prey's nose in their mouth in order to suffocate it.

I harvest small deer because they are the best eating

And that's the type of prey wolves are likely to kill quickly:

"With medium-sized prey, such as roe deer or sheep, wolves kill by biting the throat, severing nerve tracks and the carotid artery, thus causing the animal to die within a few seconds to a minute."

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunting_behavior_of_gray_wolves

So there goes your theory about "saving" the deer from being eaten alive.

Exactly so we have a hunting season on the wolves too to control the balance.

Are there any limits on how many deer, wolves, etc. hunters can kill in the US?

And in what area were wolves "planted"? In Michigan?:

wolf.org/wolf-recovery-in-michigan/

"At one time, all of what is now Michigan was home to wolves. However, the pattern of habitat destruction, wolf persecution and extirpation by humans which occurred in most of the eastern United States, continued into Michigan with European settlers. A bounty was established in 1838, at a time when wolves were already nearly eliminated from the southern Lower Peninsula of the state."

The hunters feel it is better to shoot these deer (...) than (...) have a pack of wild 125 pound dogs(...) tear it apart alive.

Sorry, but this sounds like a sweet... bullsh1t. Predators usually kill their prey before "tearing it apart" no matter whether they're canine or feline, or wait for it to die if it's a bigger and more dangerous prey, because it can hurt them.

When a pack of wolves find them it doesn't take long for the woves to kill the most of them.

That would mean human hunters aren't needed for controlling the deer population, because nature can do it on it's own.

By taking their natural prey from predators for your freezers you may be contributing to the dwindling of their population. And when there's not enough of wild predators, the deer will multiply to the extent that hunters are "needed".

Life / Do Polish women dislike Asian women? [14]

Male or female, people get strange looks in Poland if they're not dressed like Nanook of the North in cold or cool weather.

I wouldn't go that far, but I saw once through a kitchen window a guy wearing short sleeves during late autumn or early winter and I stared at him in shock and horror lol Btw, my uncle is like that - he's capable of wearing T-shirts during winter. That's rare though and we call such people "hot-blooded" :)

people on public transport on a nice spring day with hats, gloves and heavy winter coats.

That's me *nods* ;D

Life / Do Polish women dislike Asian women? [14]

Can u provide some insight into this?

Yes, my insight is that you have some issues that you probably should work on.
You seem to have an issue with you being an Asian woman and with women in other countries. It looks to me that you're looking for a fault in the women in the country where you live - American women wear skimpy clothes when they shouldn't, Polish women hate Asian women, because they look at you... Is that all you have to say about American women after living in the US - that they wear skimpy outfits? lol Didn't you make any friends there?

Poles are a homogenic nation, so many Poles stare a lot at anyone who looks different, especially at people from different races - both men and women. That doesn't mean they're racist or that they hate you. Also, Poles aren't accustomed to smiling at strangers and many foreigners claim that they look sad or angry. That's not the case either - that's just our neutral, default look lol

As an Asian woman we are told that we look classless an whorish when we wear skimpy outfits

Sorry, but this is the first I hear of it. Where Asian women are told such things?

Furthermore, I rarely encountered friendly Polish women in real life

But you encountered plenty of friendly Polish men?

Btw, here's a profile of a Japanese woman living in Kraków:

facebook.com/maruyamamiwa

Why don't you ask her whether Polish women hate Asian women?

Travel / Do Poles like to hunt? Hunting in Poland. [211]

Do you consume meat, dairy or eggs? If so you're complicit in the taking of life...

Um, you don't kill a cow to get milk :)))
Yes, I do eat meat. I don't do it "for fun" though - I can't give up meat due to my health problems.

But I already wrote that I don't mind people eating meat and yes, I realise that you can't get meat without killing an animal. And I don't mind people who hunt for food solely or out of poverty.

The difference is that I'm not killing those animals personally and I DON'T WANT to be doing that personally and I'm GLAD that I don't have to do it. Taking animal's life wouldn't bring me "fun" or any pleasure. I don't have to do it, so I'm not doing it, because killing a living being, especially a mammal, would be traumatic for me. That's why for me the fact that someone can be hunting "for fun" is f*cked up.

Is it really so hard to understand? I feel like I'm explaining the same thing over and over again. Pawian understands it, jon357 understands what I'm talking about, so why don't you?

Again... being killed by a hunter is a quicker and mostly less painful than the alternatives

I see you don't understand...
It is not about eating meat, the death of the animal itself or what it looks like, but the act of killing done by a human. I don't understand people who WANT to kill, even though they don't have to (since they're doing it mainly for fun - they can buy meat at the store or at the butcher's). For me it's a sign that there may be something disturbing about this person. So, for me the issue is the motivation and the mentality of such a person. The same is with people working at a slaughterhouse - I wouldn't mind people working there, because there's no other job available where they live. I would mind however people who are working there... "for fun"... or find working there "elating" or "self-cleansing"...

No one's asking you to socialize with hunters or spend time with them...

I know! lol Do I claim that anyone is forcing me to socialize with them? I'm just trying to explain my point of view, because I see that you guys don't seem to understand what I'm talking about...

Maf, you probably eat meat, but have you ever killed an animal? Would you WANT to kill it? Would you consider it "fun"?

@jon357, cows can be pets too (they can be affectionate and playful). And pigs. And pretty much any farm animal really...
