Life / Class system in Poland - does it exist? [90]

@Kashub1410, you're putting words into my mouth. That's not fair.

Indeed, anyone can work as anyone

I didn't claim that. What is wrong with you today?

Life / Class system in Poland - does it exist? [90]

@Kashub1410, the fact that a person who has been trained and prepared his entire life for something doesn't mean that he can't be a human scum or a bad leader. To believe otherwise would be exactly that - fantasy and wishful thinking.

Thinking that a simple worker can rule as good

A simple worker can be well educated and have great leading skills, but life could force him to take up such a job. At the same time someone born into a noble or rich family may be either too lazy or too stupid to lead or to take over family business.

Of course, usually the better someone is prepared for some role the better he or she will be at what they're doing, but these days you don't have to have noble roots to do that.

It was with regard to relativism

Sorry, but what does it have to do with my statement that for me someone's character and deeds are more important than what social class they belong to?

Some groups are not only different but, better for society and the world as a whole!

You sound very elitist. All kinds of groups are needed for society. What does it mean "better" for society? Are nobles better for society than factory workers? Or than doctors? Than firefighters? Someone can view nobility as a group of parasites, who didn't work for what they own. I'm not talking that much about Polish nobles nowadays since a lot was taken from them by communists. On the other hand, they didn't work for what they owned in the past either though.

@Kashub1410, but we weren't discussing traditions in general. We were discussing szlachta/nobility. So why did you twist it into an unfair and untrue conclusion that I don't value traditions, customs or knowledge in general? Bad, boy, Kashub1410, bad boy! lol I thought you're better than this.

Jesus Christ is the king of Poland.

Oh... Now that's a plot twist! lol ;D

Then you don't seem to value traditions, inherited customs or knowledge.

Wow, that's a very arrogant and self-centred thing to say. Sorry, but traditions, customs and knowledge are not restricted only to nobility.

Poland does have a king, PiS made a law about it even.

What law and who is that king of Poland? lol

Life / Class system in Poland - does it exist? [90]

I agree with Lenka.

Yet an achievement to be set as an example should be complemented.

Being part of szlachta often wasn't any kind of achievement - because people were simply born into it. Also, being part of nobility didn't give anyone automatically noble character. So I'm not sure what's your point and what you fret about so much. I don't consider people with noble roots to be better than others. For me personally character and deeds are more important than titles.

and Poland does have a king!

No, it doesn't o_O

Love / Do majority of Polish women wear very skimpy outfits like super short buttcheek shorts out in public? [22]

It depends on the situation or occasion. If you work at some office/corpo with a dress code then you have no choice and you have to put on the office wear, but if you go on shopping or you're a college student you put a pair of jeans and a sweater if it's cold. During winter I also often put on a pair of leggins under my trousers, because I'm a zmarzluch lol 🥶

@Somchai200, it's getting colder and nobody will be wearing skimpy clothes now, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait till summer to see for yourself.

I've never been to the US, so I can't compare. What I've noticed based on what I saw on TV was that it seems that American women are more likely to wear blouses, T-shirts or dresses with pretty big cleavages. Even at work which would be usually a "no no" in Poland. But that's pretty much all I can say, I guess.

wear these super short buttcheek shorts in any public or social settings without hesitation

Well, that's defenitely not happening where I live in Poland (the Holy Cross region).

@Crnogorac3, and what it is the source of this data/graph? Or was it taken out of some RuSSian zhopa? :)

Illegal immigrant smugglers are legal immigrants.

This happens all over the world - people are often smuggled or trafficked by their own compatriots. You didn't exactly discover America, you know lol

Love / Is Marriage Or Seriously Relationship With Polish Ladies Worth It? [16]

Polish feminists

But Videobroker's girlfriend doesn't sound like a feminist - he wrote that he's paying all the bills :)))

Btw, I don't yell at people in public and I don't demean people I care about.

Yes, hanging around toxic people makes him age faster than normal. :):):)

Haha lol This could be the case, I guess :)))

listen to me yelling at you in public and demeaning you and shut up. But I love you so much...

It has nothing to do with her being Polish. It looks to me that she's simply a toxic person (assuming that you're telling the truth).

Btw, Videobroker, in May 2021 in one thread you wrote that you're in your "later 40's" and just one year later also in May you wrote in another thread that you're 59. Did you grow old a decade in just one year? lol

You just described the Polish women here on this forum to a "T" !.

No, he didn't.

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

I remember names and faces...

I'm not sure, but I'm probably a bit better with faces than names... I'm sure though that I have a problem with memorising numbers. I don't even remember my own phone number lol

There was a time when we had to memorise a lot of dates of battles at history classes at high school - I think it was about Napoleonic Wars. That was pure nightmare for me. It didn't help that I didn't see the point of learning all this stuff by heart. It seemed like a waste of time and brain space for me, especially considering the fact that we were quickly forgetting such minor details like some not very important battle under Psia Wólka or whatever *sigh* Even though history was interesting for me, I think the problem with history classes when I was at school was that we were expected to memorise too much, instead of analysing more, etc. The sheer load of the material we had to cram into our heads was putting me off. The rule was: "Zakuj, zdaj, zapomnij".

Was it Moscow State University or Moscow University for the Humanities?

Nope, a Polish university :)

Off-Topic / Polish Misunderstanding of American Terminology [47]

Why do you keep pretending there was a mistake

I'm not pretending - there was a factual mistake in your sentence.

Rudeness breeds rudeness

I wasn't rude to you in the thread "Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 3" nor here, so you had no reason to react like this.

Off-Topic / Polish Misunderstanding of American Terminology [47]

You can't take one sentence out of context and attack it.

I didn't take it out of context. There's no logical link between the first sentence in your comment and the rest of your post. You even put the rest of your comment in a separate paragraph.

If you put "NATO governments" in that first sentence instead of "NATO" I wouldn't have a problem with what you wrote. But you didn't and it made that part untrue.

If you want to be better understood next time put more thought into your comments. If that was an honest mistake, that is, and not a conscious manipulation on your part.

Now get lost

No reason to be rude. You started this thread and I'm just responding to it.

Off-Topic / Polish Misunderstanding of American Terminology [47]

Meaning the calls by NATO 'governments' and not NATO in proper.

I didn't comment on that fragment in which you mentioned "NATO governments", but on this sentence: "Like NATO did in Iraq"? This sentence is factually incorrect and that is why I pointed it out. I don't know if you wrote it this way because you were being lazy, sloppy or ignorant. If you were a Putinist I would think you're manipulating on purpose. Either way, it was an untrue statement, because the invasion of Iraq wasn't a NATO operation and majority of NATO member states didn't take part in it. Even if we treated your sentence as some kind of hyperbole (which is one type of figurative language) it would still be a factually incorrect statement. As I wrote already - that thread isn't about poetry, we're discussing real events there and facts matter.

Is this just because Polish people like to frivolously "pick" or is it really because they are ignorant to American terminologies ?

It is because you're trying to cover up your bad behaviour and mistakes by claiming it's due to non-Americans misunderstanding "American terminologies". When you lie you claim it's "sarcasm". Like when you repeatedly wrote that you have a cattle ranch in Mexico or wherever and later you claimed it was "sarcasm". Which wasn't - it was simply a lie. It doesn't matter if you were using this lie to troll Harry and delph or not - it was still a lie. When you bully people you claim it's just "friendly banter", which is not true, because people you're bullying don't enjoy it in the slightest and despise you for the way you're treating them. So, you're either you're lying on purpose or that "sarcasm", "friendly banter", etc. is only in your head.

On Chat you also claimed that I didn't understand some "American terminology", but mocha dot, who was brought up and educated in the US, called you out on your bullsh1t.

News / Poland to officially demand $1.32 trillion WW2 reparations from Germany [457]

the much needed judicial reform in Poland

Are you joking? PiS isn't trying to "reform" judiciary, PiS is trying to take control over judiciary, just like they're trying to take control over anything else. What just got into you?

I noticed you regularly suffer from such periodic bouts of madness. Before, you did in Ukrainian thread, now here. Amassing!

Yeah, it seems it's happening again lol

Eh, sorry, that comment was written by Paweł Brzezowski - my phone changed it into Brzeziński ;P

Btw, I'm not sure if I see it right, but I think Sanah is sitting down in the video in front of the grave of Baczyński and his wife. 🤔

And the videos showing Polish countryside and nature were filmed in the Podlasie region.

@Alien, to be honest I haven't noticed any speech impediments in her case - she talks and sings in a normal way... And what do you mean by "dictionary flaws"?

Sanah is a phenomenon

Yes, it looks like it... "Nothing Twice" got 2 million and "A Paean" 1 million views on YouTube in just two days :)

it looks like it's Sanah's new record

Sorry, I was wrong - I thought it's a new album, but it's just 10 songs - she decided to publish songs based on her favourite poems as a surprise gift for her fans (9 Polish poems and 1 English by E. A. Poe.).

Here's another Polish one - "Fairytale" ("Bajka") by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński:

youtu.be/fwF8bAcTmsc

Baczyński wrote this poem at the end of June 1944 - just over a month before the Warsaw Uprising broke out in which he fought and got killed. He was a poet and Home Army soldier, one of the most well known of the Generation of Columbuses. The video for this song was recorded in the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw where many great Poles are burried, including Baczyński and his wife who got killed a month later. At the time of his death he was 23 years old, his wife - 22. They are burried together.

Fragment of the song/poem:

"No, i stolarz schylił z wolna głowę
i wyciosał przez czas niedługi
dla nich wonne trumny dębowe,
a dla synów ich dębowe maczugi.
Więc odeszli. Śpiewał obcy czas.
Więc odeszli przez powietrza białe smugi
z tym uśmiechem, który dobrze znasz."

parasol

A beautiful comment under this song:

"Paweł Brzeziński
While I'm listening to one poem after another I feel as if hundreds of generations were calling out to us, consciences and hearts, who through their lives made us into who we are today. It goes above everything our world is dealing with today. Thank you for this beautiful lesson."

History / Crazy 1990s in Poland - transition from communism to capitalism - stories [108]

Quite a few big business started off that way - like CCC which now sells about 50 million pairs of shoes a year !

Yes, the same was with Kolporter. The guy who created it and owns it is from Kielce (the company's headquarters is still in Kielce) - Krzysztof Klicki. One taxi driver told me that in the 90s Klicki couldn't even afford his own car, so him and other taxi drivers were helping him to distribute press by driving him with all the newspapers around Kielce. Now Kolporter is the biggest press distributor in Poland and Klicki is one of the richest people in our country :)

Btw, in 1927 Słowacki's remains were moved from Montmartre in Paris to the Wawel Castle in free Poland :) I'm mentioning this because it's connected to the lyrics of that poem and song.

O, wow, it looks like it's Sanah's new record - she turned Polish poetry into songs :)) I'm loving this... Young Polish people will be singing Polish poetry now - this is amazing :))) And I'm rediscovering it for myself too:

"A Stone" ("Kamień") by Adam Asnyk:

Another one by Adam Asnyk - "One Day God Will Allow to Sit Down in Free Poland" ("Da Bóg kiedyś zasiąść w Polsce wolnej"):
