News / Grzegorz Braun extinguishes Hanukkah candles in Polish Parliament [459]

everything to do with it being the day the new government took office

That's what I meant: for "was a set up" read "wasn't a set up" (damned typos!)

Being a casual fan of professional wrestling for years (and understanding how it works both as a business and how it engages fans) taught me more about politics than all the political science classes I took put together.

Braun is a jobber and the stunt was a work.

History / Poland must get back Lwow, Wilno and Brest back [345]

wanting to bury the hatchet between Poland and Russia, once and for all

For russians "burying the hatchet" means becoming a vassal state or part of the empire. So that can't happen until russian gives up its psychotic desire for empire.

From the russian point of view the invasion of Ukraine was about 'burying the hatchet'.... so no sale.

I'm not convinced this was a set up (probably by PiS)

Found out that lighting a menora has been an annual thing for many years now, including every previous year he's been an MP.

Yet he decides that this year is when he has an urgent need to be as disruptive as possible as a new government is being formed.... (followed by immediate motions from PiS to stop deliberations and resume them today...)

Kayfabe.

Wonder what he was paid....

Not only is he a crazy anti-semite, he's also adept at licking russian @ss.

And he hates protestants too.

He's an all round piece o' sh]t

News / Ups and downs of the democratic government 2023-2027 in Poland [363]

It is a thing of the past

Is it? What do the Germans here say? Is "Federal Europe" a dead idea?

what reasons exactly, dear.

Biggest was that it was never a good fit for British ways and interests and the more integrated it became the less a good fit it was.

I'm not saying it's all great, but British and other European values just don't always align. It is what it is.

pro-European

Don't push it.... the EU is a mixed bag and while it has its uses I don't think most Polish people see its continual expansion (in terms of how it affects people in their daily lives) as a good thing....

It's the bystander who committed an assault by stopping him.

Is that the stupidest thing you've ever written? It's gotta be in the top 5....

In civilized countries, one does not have a right not to be offended.

True. He could have how horrible the menorah was all he wanted and no one would care. Taking the fire extinguisher and interfering in a government sanctioned event and possibly harming a bystander.... he's in trouble. He'd better hope the check from PiS and/or russia cleared....

Hating - Jews included - is legal everywhere. Destroying property is not. Extinguishing candles is not destruction.

He sprayed a bystander trying to stop him in the face.... assault. On tape.

It was possibly a planned provocation to delay procedings so that Tusk won't go to Brussels tomorrow as official PM....

The way PiS had their talking points all prepared 'koalicja chaosu' 'you let it happen because he'd been mean to Witek' point to prior knowledge....

News / Polish Parliamentary Elections 2023 [933]

Meanwhile, back in the real world. Morawiecki's 'government' fell after it did not receive a vote of confidence.

Interestingly 3 members of PiS didn't even show up so the final including Ziobro who obviously didn't want to be seen voting for Morawiecki in public....

This time, there will be no reasumpcja.

PiS is attempting to lay the groundwork for their return into power

All deposed parties try to do that. In this case the numbers are against them. They've throroughly alienated too many people The number of young people voting was their death knell.

I'm not much of a fan of PO (or any of the other segments of the incoming government) but periodic changes of ruling party are necessary, if for no other reason than for preventing political stagnation and for preventing any one party from becoming too powerful.

Power corrupts and the reins of power shouldn't be in any hands for too long.

We will teach them how to love the Motherland.

If you mean where they came from then I'm _sure_ a stint in russia will make Burkina Faso or Iraq look like heaven on earth in comparison.

Plenty fit in very well.

And a far greater number don't.... again over the last 25 years immigration has cost the Netherlands 400 billion more than its received....

No sustainable.

The choice is.... shut down the slave trade or see the collapse of Europe.

I know which I want. Which do you want?

These people are incompatible with western society

Modernism, especially in the incarnation of neoliberalism is all about the mass movement of humanity. Capitalism and communism both share a mania for moving people around like containers in a dockyard with no concern for what happens to them.

What's being done to migrants in Africa and the Middle East is horribly cruel to them. They're being told they need to go to Europe and once they arrive they find they serve no purpose and cannot fit in and have no hope at any kind of dignified life.... so they lash out.

And the slavers known as human traffickers (which includes the NGOs picking up their boats in the Mediterranean) keep the flow up because they're making money and the feckless Europeans say 'nothing can be done....' and things like welfare states and human dignity are being lost.

Those who support the current European slave trade are no better than those who supported the Arab or Atlantic Slave Trades.

News / Poland says no to flood of Immigrants [670]

migration to our continent continues to increase.

Let's be clear.

It's not good for European countries.

It's not good for the migrants themselves (who are mostly completely unable to function in Europe and subsist on welfare and petty crime).

It's not wanted by the vast majority of European voters.

No European country has made the slightest effort to reduce it.

Even half-@ssed efforts reduce the numbers so more energetic and vigorous efforts would reduce things more.

Who knows? It's certainly increasingly inevitable.

In 1988 the continued existence of the USSR seemed inevitable....

You seem to?

To get ack to my question.... how is western European migration remotely viable or sustainable? I've seen figures (that I haven't had time to chase down) that half of all social housing in the UK now goes to migrants and about 60% of welfare payments in Germany go to migrants....

How is this sustainable?

What's the endgame? Total collapse?

A constant justification for uncontrolled migration is that immigrants create help....

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands a study found that migrants cost 17 _billion_ euros per year (that is they take more out of the system than they give)

file:///C:/Users/HP/Downloads/Borderless_Welfare_State-2.pdf

How is this remotely sustainable?

my eldest son used to work for a popular chain store with teenage fashion for two years. Ha!!!!

So? That's a data point, not evidence.

Show me a professional survey of at least a thousand or so employees from across the retail sector and we'll talk.

mouths of store workers who used to complain to me about working Sundays

Of course those who don't want to will complain, those who don't mind.... won't.

Not strong evidence. If I saw evidence that a strong majority didn't want it then I'd change my position, but so far....

Contempt for simple folks

While PiS have contempt for everyone who isn't simple.... and for better or worse, there are more of them in Poland now

forcing people to work on Sundays when most of them desire to have a day off

I'm unaware of any evidence that most people want to have Sunday off specifically... and no one's proposing that employees can't have days off.

Go to one or two handlowe niedziele a month and make sure those who work then are paid more. If it's unprofitable for the stores then they'll be closed.

Again, in the PRL almost everybody was working at the same time and that's just not the case anymore.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [599]

An aerosol can travel by air.

droplets might be stopped by masks... aerosols.... no way

I think masks are still necessary if one has COVID.

No because covid was never a super killer mutant virus.... a bunch of marginal changes to policy made it seem worse than it was...

dumping infected people in senior care facilities full of people with weakened immune systems inflated death tolls

locking people up at home (again weaking immune systems)

masking (again weakening immune systems and making it easier to get infected)

keeping bad policies in place long after they were known to be useless helped insure it lasted longer and hit people harder than might have happened had they just let it rip earlier on

It was a bit freaky and unpredictable and could interact with existing conditions in ways that aren't understood (hello, lab virus....) but quickly morphed into a very contagious flu like illness and has been weakening ever since....

Basically everything known about how an epidemic/virus should be handled was thrown out the window.... no wonder it was bad....

they were not effective enough

The mask idea came about early when they thought it was spread by droplets... once it was clear it was airborne there was no justification for masks...

I have never supported bringing back those trading Sundays

I think having them every other week (or even once a month) would be okay. Families that want to spend time together will find a way and there are other ways people have to work on weekends... it's not back in the PRL when almost everybody had working hours at the same time.

teachers such as yourself do plenty of work outside of classroom hours

I work essentially every day. Only have class a few days a week but I'm doing work for classes (or other work projects) almost every single day.

is a religion

people can't live without religion, when you disempower traditional faiths new ones spring up to take their place....

transgender ideology, veganism, climate panic.... all what I call 'neo-religions'.
