History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [451]

.I somewhat doubt that my East German overlords would send humanitarian aid to support the Solidarity uprising in the "socialist brother country" Poland..

Of course not, rebellious Poland was number one suspicious element. But the parcels could have been prepared for communist Angola, constantly torn by civil war. I remember my younger sister had an exchange with an East German school at the time and she hosted a black African female student.

"Since the 14th century, Poland excelled in the production of sausages,

Good you are defending Polish sausage against evil machinations. Now try to contribute sth according to the topic, but not tomatoes or other veg.
E.g., - have you ever heard of The Culinary Art Guide by Iskry ? In the bigos entry, they suggest it is a German name. Now, is it only the name or also the recipe which Poles received from Germans?

No, it was just stupid, even if you meant it as a joke. Yawn. But, your silly potatoes triggered some memories about German contribution. See how old masters do it and learn, young man:

Before and during dark times of communist martial law 1981 the food shortages became dramatic in Poland. My parents were happy when they bought a giant sack of potatoes and stored it in the basement, I helped them to transport it from the befriended farmer. I had other problems on mind then, so that sack and my parents` glee were like from outer space to me. I still can`t believe one could be able to enjoy such simple things in life.

Alarmed by the media and Solidarity activists, thousands of individual Germans, charity organisations and churches from West Germany sent millions of parcels with food, clothes, medicine to Poland. They were called solidarity parcels.

Thank you, Germans.

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

You are just another propagandist who exploits Lenin`s motto: repeat the lie thousand of times and it will become the truth .

I go with historical research which is more reliable to some degree in establishing the truth.

Historical research is a notion unknown to you, so stop pretending. :)

I am not going to talk about Soros and EU in Polish Women rights thread.

You still haven`t enriched us with documented info about drunk consent "rapes."

So why don't you logically answer to this argument :-)

Stop meddling in with your plastic toy Trabant car when Monstertrucks are debating.

quote from your link - According to IPN historical research (2019) "Bury" wasn't guilty of genocide.

Yes, and that`s what I commented with

YI didn`t take it seriously for obvious reasons. Also, you should be ashamed of pointing to them at all.

So, my advice from my previous post is still valid. :)

Why are you making it so easy, Ironside?

Yes, that`s amazing. My second quote also holds true: Those nationalists are really hopeless, hoping that other guys will not check things for themselves.

Virtue signaling and keeping ultra liberal agenda alive is more important than what citizens want.

No, they realised they had been tricked into pro brexit vote by vile politicians on Kremlin`s payroll as well as paid trolls from the Factory. Sth which you seem to be affiliated with, too, because your agenda is just too thick. :):)

No you can Google it yourself.

Hah! I knew you were bluffing with those drunk rapes. :):) I think it was Lenin`s advice for his propagandists - reapeat the lie thousands of times until it becomes truth. You had good educators there. :):)

But you do realise this discovery makes everything you said here one giant hoax. :)

Does it mean to show someone no mercy?

Nope, it is much simpler as it means to hit sb with your head.

Hey, why are you suddenly twisting things around? We were talking about a drunk rape while you bring up sex with a minor. Why are you doing it? We are not talking about minor sex in this thread, but harassment of adult women which you support. I expected you would provide linked examples how a male had sex with a consenting drunk woman and then she accused him of rape and he was convicted and sentenced.

Can you find those links for us because I don`t have time to do your duties?

No ,I am desperately trying to make you come to reason and use it if you have any. Why did you ignore the reviving post in which I precisely formulated again what the thread`s purpose is????

That`s a reasonable approach. As for moving on, it is impossible for some guys, they just can`t stop looking back. E.g, that crazy history-obsessed guy who started this thread.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

I will have to ponder again, but was my answer in post 153 about the cat's tail correct or not?

Oops, sorry, I was going to reply to it but sb had me distracted. Yes, it means twisting things to make people believe your version. Similar to "try to wriggle out of sth," if I am correct.

The Polish idiom implies Jews are rootless without a homeland, the German expression implies that Jews are noisy.

No, Łyżko, the Polish version is actually more favourable for Jews, it means they are always busy looking after their business, whether customers come or not.

have 'Czech mistake' and 'Czech movie' (two very different things) been done?

No. Czech movie is hard to understand while a Czech mistake is a silly one made during writing..

There's so many things we owe them.

Yawn, An attempt at a witty reply but still based on an unoriginal concept, because there were already a few like that before. I thought you were more intelligent - do all nationalists reason in the same simplistic way? :)):

Life / Why does Poland need racial diversity? Opinions [67]

I hope I'm stating the obvious by saying that Poland doesn't NEED diversity.

Hmm, shouldn`t you emphasizedoesn`t instead of need ?

It is difficult to gauge what kind of diversity pawian wants.

I thought it was clear. Racial diversity which means that apart from white guys, who make a vast and dull majority now, there are also people of other races, in greater number than current statistics show, so they are visible in streets, schools, workplaces, and they all live happily ever after because they are tolerant towards each other, not due to enforced antidiscriminatory laws but out of personal free choice.

Oh, that`s interesting because it is rarely mentioned. What always counted more was the abolition of serfdom in tsarist Russia 50 years later as it affected a bigger part of Polish lands, then controlled by Russians.

Really? Can you read Polish? Check it again you lazy bones. At the very end from IPN 2019, that very much nullifies text above.

You mean the latest declaration of PiS-controlled IPN, those modern Kremlin stooges? I didn`t take it seriously for obvious reasons. Also, you should be ashamed of pointing to them at all. If you do, you follow Kremlin`s agenda of stirring animosity between Poles and their neighbours.

Dear guys, thank you for your abundant contribution. I haven`t had time to reply to your comments and opinions yet because I have been incredibly busy in other threads. I will certainly do it, soon.

So far I have suggested 4 reasons for the need of racial diversity and run out of ideas. Are there more or 4 is the final fantasy? Drop me a line and I will develop your clues when I find more time.

History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [451]

OMG, I have reread the whole thread and feel like crying - those golden times when we used to run such fascinating discussions with so many motivated members taking part seem long gone. And we could freely insert pics and quote excessively. To se ne vrati.... (:(:(

Or am I wrong?

I suppose it might be worthwile reviving the thread as I have come across new info.

Just a little reminder - this thread`s Leitmotiv is What, not If. What do Poles owe to Germans? and not Do Poles owe anything to Germans? Let`s talk about positive contributions, so could you abstain from mentioning partitions, WW2, etc because these topics belong to other threads. And owe doesn`t mean being indebted, but feel grateful to someone because of the way that they have helped you. Whether that help was deliberate or accidental, doesn`t matter.

Also could you try to avoid pointing to things which Germans contributed to the whole world, e.g., composers, but rather focus on Polish German connection?

So far we have talked about the following things, among others:

Works of art/ Magdeburg layout for towns / A few medieval artifact gifts/ German settlements in Poland / First book printing / Vocabulary borrowings / Polonised Germans

If you can`t find them in the thread, I will provide links upon request.

I read my links and they perfectly corroborate what I have said - historians haven`t found rational proofs that villages burnt by Bury were inhabited mostly by Soviet stooges, spies, supporters. There were a few but not all who died.

Do you understand written Polish at all?

Reason No 4 - Diversity makes people smarter

No need to eleborate, just read this article:

scientificamerican.com/article/how-diversity-makes-us-smarter/

Being around people who are different from us makes us more creative, more diligent and harder-working

Yes, I can see it in my school which is attended by 2 Ukrainian students. I don`t teach them but was told by our Polish teachers that they like classes with Ukrainian students because they always ask a lot of questions and seem really interested, which positively affects the rest of the group. Most Polish students believe they know everything about their culture, literature and language so they don`t care. When juxtaposed to inquisitive foreigners, they realise how wrong they were.

Now, can you imagine a situation when a black/Asian student stands up and recites classic pieces of Polish literature? Polish students would never forget the experience, I think it might give them a proper boost to study harder.

Life / Why does Poland need racial diversity? Opinions [67]

Reason No 3 - Diversity teaches tolerance

And that`s very good for you as, being tolerant, you will lead a happier life. Tolerant people don`t experience so much stress in their lives as biased ones. A prejudiced person is regularly frustrated, not only with people of different race, but other things too, while tolerant one is mentally healthy. It is obvious who will love longer.

When leaving Poland, intolerant guys can be doubly frustrated because racial diversity exists in most attractive countries which they desire to visit in Europe, whether job hunting, for educational purposes or just tourism.

Most Poles are tolerant about other races, but a few are not and it is probably the result of the lack of racial diversity in Poland . It was pointed out by British teachers a few years ago when they saw how some Polish students treated their black, Arab or Asian peers with disdain and contempt. The teachers` comments were not favourable for Polish students who were dubbed extreme racists.

Check this article about Polish pupils in the UK
core.ac.uk/download/pdf/17301071.pdf

Several teachers referred to Polish children's lack of familiarity with dealing with diversity. A headteacher suggested that: Some of the Polish children, haven't had the benefit of a multicultural education that the children who have been here since they started school have had . So we find sometimes racist comments being made. So we have to deal with that...
