News / Dirty deeds of foreign guys in Poland [128]

I remember reading that there were Georgians among those foreign Uber, Bolt, etc. rapists and molesters in Warsaw, but I didn't realise it's that bad in their case...

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [669]

The West decides, for a number of reasons, to end the war. For this they will need some sort of compensation to Ukraine

Kania, you're being so completely ridiculous/unhinged right now that I'm wondering whether you're pulling our leg... :))))
Did you hit yourself on the head? This is completely unrealistic. There's no reason why the West would "decide" to "compensate" Ukraine for lost lands, let alone with lands of an independent country - a country that is part of the EU and NATO and inhabited almost exclusively by Poles.

Are you high on something? lol

2. They will push the idea of glorious Polish-Ukrainian union.

Who will??

*shivers*

Better take your meds lol

I am not worried about Ukrainians per se but rather about this fishy idea of Polish-Ukrainian union

Such union is next to impossible to happen, so why would you worry about something THAT improbable?

about the possible compensation that Ukraine might be offered in such union at Poland's expense, for the lands they are bound to lose in the east.

Sorry, but that's even more of a political sci-fi than that "Polish-Ukrainian Union" that you're so worried about lol o_O

Of course they would need to persuade our politicians too but can you honestly say that it's impossible?

Yes, I can.

News / "A merciful heart can share its bread with the hungry and welcome refugees and migrants" Pope Francis [89]

and it's not about right or wrong.

Of course it is. It should be not only for regular people, but the more so for a pope - the head of a Catholic Church, responsible for guiding 1.3 billion people.

whether or not Suvorov was a butcher of innocents. Evidence seems to indicate that what occurred, was not at all what he wanted.

I have no idea if this is what he wanted or not. RuSSians have a tendency to falsify history in such a way as to whitewash themselves. So I don't know if RuSSian sources can be trusted... I'm not sure if I remember right, but I think that either I read it somewhere or it was theorised at a history lesson at my school that the civillians were massacred on purpose in order to terrorise Warsaw into surrendering (and that's what happened) and that Suvorov sent Cossacks on purpose to do the dirty job or sth.

When I recall comments made by you, Velund and that Serbian Putinist - being in favour of terrorising Ukrainian population in order to break their spirit, I wouldn't be surprised if that theory about Suvorov was right.

News / "A merciful heart can share its bread with the hungry and welcome refugees and migrants" Pope Francis [89]

in revenge for the slaughter of the Russian Garrison in Warsaw during the Warsaw Uprising in April 1794, when about 2,000 Russian soldiers died.

So they massacred 12,000 Polish civilians for the death of 2000 soldiers-occupiers??
And you see nothing wrong with that??

"Russian writers and historians have tried to either justify or present this massacre as an revenge for Polish conquest of Moscow in 1612 or the heavy losses Russian garrison sustained during the Warsaw Uprising of 1794."

Source:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Praga

Apparently Suvorov was so horrified at what was happening, he blew the bridge to Warsaw over the Vistula, to prevent the chaos from spreading.

"Polish historians dispute this, pointing out to purely military considerations of this move, such as to stop Polish and Lithuanian troops stationing on the left bank from attacking Russian soldiers"

Source:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Praga

A nice way of underlining how unreasonable Paulina and Pawian's expectations are.

You clearly don't know what my expectations are.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

I remember reading somewhere that Belarus is giving out passports to Wagner Group members with new, Belarusian names and surnames. If that's true it would probably be better if EU countries closed the border with Belarus already, instead of waiting for "critical incidents" to happen...

News / Despicable Ukrainian lies [144]

@Bobko, Poles were very disappointed with the attitude of popes towards the partitions of Poland and Polish struggle for independence. As Catholics they felt betrayed by the Vatican:

polskieradio.pl/39/156/artykul/2951106,franciszek-nie-jest-pierwszy-gdy-papiez-nie-potepia-rosji

Probably that's why one of Polish most important poets, Juliusz Słowacki, predicted the coming of a Slavic pope in one of his poems - a pope that will make everything right. Here's a fragment:

"Into the midst of riotous squabblers
God sounds his gong;
Here is the Slavic Pope, your new ruler;
Make way, applaud.
This one will not, like Italians before him,
Flee sworded throngs;
Our world disdainer will fight like a tiger,
Fearless like God."

It turned out to be prophetic.

Life / Polish females who made it [29]

@Lenka, yes, exactly. Fortunetly, these days, at least in our part of the world, women have a choice (which clearly pisses off some sh1tty men :)))

Maria married her longtime admirer and lover, count Philippe Antoine d'Ornano.

This reminds me of the story of Mary Boleyn, btw (again - I recommend watching "The Other Boleyn Girl").

but even then an 18-year-old girl was close to crying or vomiting at the very thought of being banged by an old bag of money.

Of course. As I wrote - it was disgusting. I'm glad that those times are over. It's still happening in countries like Afghanistan, for example. Worse even.

That makes it even more repugnant. Mommie pimping her daughter for the irresponsible brothers!

Well, duh!

Life / Polish females who made it [29]

At the age of eighteen she was married by her mother to the sixty-eight-year-old

Yes, absolutely disgusting.

Mary was a prostitute selling her 18-year-old sexy body for money.

No, that didn't make her a prostitute - she was married. In the past it was common, especially among noble and aristocratic families, to marry off their kids to "the right" family. Kids' marriages (men included, not only women) were supposed to serve their families' interests or save them from bankruptcy. For example, Polish classic 19th century novel "Lalka" ("Doll") revolves around this topic - a rich entrepreneur tries to persuade a woman from a noble family to marry him by paying off her family debts. I also recommend watching the film "The Other Boleyn Girl" if someone wants to have an idea what it looked like in the past.

Now I know that her Mommie was a pimp

Not by the standards of those times. She made her marry and not have sex outside of marriage. You could say, however, that a number of Polish aristocrats did "pimp Mary out" to Napoleon - they were hoping that she could influence Napoleon to support Poland's fight for independence. And apparently she did.

Btw, her husband must've known what was going on since everyone in Warsaw's higher circles knew about it. He also acknowledged Napoleon's son as his own. So I guess you could say that her own husband was "pimping her out" too.

Her mother married Mary off to that old fart, because her brothers had debts. So, first she Mary to sacrifice herself for her brothers/family and then for her country.

Eventually she did divorce the old fart and, together with her oldest son, got half of his estates (which were, of course, heavily indebted). Four years later Maria married her longtime admirer and lover, count Philippe Antoine d'Ornano.

I hope she got to experience some love and happiness at least later in her life.

@Atch, yes, but Maria Walewska was Napoleon's lover, not wife:

"a Polish noblewoman in the court of Napoleon I who used her influence to sway the emperor towards the creation of an independent Polish state"

Also a cake is named after her:

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

She didn't make round pizzas but always used a roasting tin

Just like how my mother was doing it for years. My city grandmother's pizza was round though, so I'm guessing she was using a cake pan. 🤔 Their pizzas are the best I've eaten so far.

Did that elderly Italian lady give you a recipe for her pizza??? :d Grannies often make the best food :D

yumyum

in the biggest roasting tin which does need at least a fork or the middle bits will drop everywhere.

I'd usually eat my city grandmother's pizza with hands, because it would be difficult to eat it with a knife and fork - the crust was as high as a cake would be. I'm not sure if you could even call it a pizza, but it was delicious :D The same with my mother's pizza - the crust is so thick and there's so much of topping on it that if I tried to cut it with a knife too much of the topping would fall off (my mouth is watering as I'm writing this ;D).

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

I've seen this however I've also seen Italians slice the pizza with a knife and fork then eat the slices with their hands.

Sure, they, for example, kind of fold a slice of the Neapolitan pizza in two and eat it with their hands. But many Italians eat a pizza with a fork and knife, so that's clearly not the "wrong way" to eat a pizza :)))

Personally, when eating out I would eat a pizza using a fork and knife. At home - it depends on the pizza or whether I feel like getting my hands dirty or not (or whether it's hot or cooled off already) :)

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

Atleast people dont use fork and knife there to eat there freaking pizza lol.

But that's the Italian way of eating pizza! :))):

cheftravelguide.com/how-do-italians-eat-pizza/

"Italians eat their pizza with a fork and knife"

Eating pizza with your hands is "the American way":

theguardian.com/food/2019/sep/06/how-to-eat-neapolitan-style-pizza

'"First things first," announces Pizza Pilgrims' website, "eating pizza with a knife and fork is a very Italian way to do things - so don't feel like this is any kind of cop-out." Indeed, there are those who see the New York "slice" and the habit that arose from that of pre-slicing whole pizzas in restaurants as an Italian-American invention, yet another strand of US cultural imperialism alien in Italy itself. Most Italian sources agree that in restaurants, cutlery should be used to eat your (whole, unsliced) pizza, not your hands.'

Food / Polish Pizza !! The best in the world? [330]

So where can you eat the best pizza in Poland?

According to the Italian annual ranking "50 Top Pizza" which lists best pizzerias in Europe (besides Italy, which has separate listings) there are three such places in Poland in 2023:

podroze.onet.pl/aktualnosci/wybrali-najlepsze-pizzerie-na-swiecie-trzy-sa-w-polsce/wfxkcp3

"Ostro" in Gdańsk (number 34 on the list)

"Ciao a Tutti" in Warsaw (number 38 on the list)

"Zielona Górka" in Pabianice (number 46 on the list), which is among few pizzerias in Poland serving Neapolitan pizzas that has "Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana" certificate.

About the "50 Top Pizza" 2023 in English:

cnn.com/travel/article/50-best-pizza-europe-2023/index.html

What about you, guys? Where have you eaten the best pizza in Poland (or what places can you recommend in your city that serve the best pizza??)? :)

USA, Canada / Using maiden name as middle name [21]

I wanted to keep my maiden name but not have to use four names. Since I never used my second name (or liked it for that matter)

Ah, I see, now I get it...
I'm not sure if it will help in your situation, but you can simply get rid off the second name in Poland:

USA, Canada / Using maiden name as middle name [21]

I changed my middle name to my maiden name.

Well, this is weird, to be honest... Why did you do that?

I can't use my maiden name as my second name.

But earlier in your post you wrote that you changed your second name to your maiden name...
Sorry, but this is confusing...

Who should I reach out to sort this out?

I have no idea, I'm afraid... I've never heard of something like that... Maybe contact a Polish lawyer who's dealing with such stuff...

Law / Complicated story child birth surname issue [6]

@desperate, I did some googling and this is what I found:

adwokatmalecka.pl/blog/uznanie-czy-ustalenie-ojcostwa/

I just contacted a lawyer, about it but it might be too late. Should I act before the baby is born (most likely next week)?

No, it's not too late, actually - quite the opposite. You can take this to court, but only after the child is born. The court will order DNA paternity test.

The lawyer didn't tell you that?
