News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [996]

So enlighten us with your wise opinion which will refute my silly one. It is a problem to discuss anything with you if you only comment like " BS" and say nothing more - a very simplistic, even primitive style, I must say. Rich already pointed to it long ago.

I am still waiting for a nice source, dear. Saying interia something isn`t enough. :):) You could say "The Internet" as well.

Before your post loses edit status, you can still supply it with the source. :):) Otherwise, it looks like a poll among Konfederacja members, and as such - too biased. :)

News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [996]

Unfortunately, it is true. I am really sorry.

Utter tripe!

How do you think it will be prevented? Once you mentioned NATO or USA. Do you still believe that Poland out of the EU will be considered a fully fledged partner worth fighting for? That`s daydreaming. The West won`t give a damn about isolated Poland. In the EU Poland has a chance, out of it - none. Of course it won`t happen next year. How about a decade or two? The partitions of Poland were also spread over decades.

Study / School Uniforms in Poland - not required? [15]

Nobody mentioned one important aspect - uniforms were compulsory in communist times. When the system collapsed, uniforms were also dropped.
Atch and maf, you mention positive sides of uniforms and you are so right. However, I am against - I would go crazy in such a school - all students look the same. What boring atmosphere!

Language / Slow Talk in Polish TV [12]

Polish language, quite inefficient in the noise/content ratio, makes it worse still.

As a non-native speaker, you can`t properly follow the course of the discussion run in Polish. It is natural. That is why you imagine they are talking in a chaotic way/style.

Then I switch to US, or UK TV, and my problem seems to goes away..

Of course, coz you fully understand what they are talking about. :)

Food / Which foods are generally disliked/unpopular in Poland? Which non-Polish foods are slowly gaining popularity? [180]

The Poles that I know who did try lamb mostly found the taste disagreeable,

Well, I decided to run an experiment a few weeks ago and cooked Irish lamb steak which I bought in Carrefour. Twice as expensive as beef and thrice as pork, that is why it isn`t too popular here. As for the taste, I expected sth awful, as you suggest, but it was OK. Not a revelation, just tasty meat. But it means I am going to stick to cheaper pork or beef.

Aromatic cheeses or fish with a fuller flavor physically disgust them,

Hmm, by aromatic cheese you probably mean those stinking smelly kinds. OK. But what kind of aromatic fish do you mean coz I can`t recall any now?

News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [996]

Does anybody ask Poles anything?

Yes, they do. The latest poll: 6% want to leave the EU, 89% stay in the EU, 5% doesn`t know.
fakty.tvn24.pl/sondaze-dla-faktow-tvn-i-tvn24,106/sondaz-dla-faktow-tvn-i-tvn24-na-temat-stosunku-polakow-do-unii-europejskiej,1003143.html

Unfortunately the krauts and globalist-in-denial leftists ruined what the EU could be.

When Poland leaves the EU, she will be soon embraced by Putin and Russia who won`t allow themselves to lose such an opportunity. And most Konfederacja has nothing against.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

Its not in Tarnow county either, but you're kind of close..... its located at Tarnobrzeg.

Aaah, of course. When I saw the coat of arms of Tarnowski aristocratic family, my first thought was about Tarnów, their original nest. I forgot they also established other towns, including Tarnobrzeg. A good riddle. :):)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarnowski_family

This old cannon located at the front entrance might clue you in.......

hahaha If only I knew all old cannons and their replicas in front of Polish castles and palaces... But thanks for this hint, I just remembered there is Baranów Sandomierski Castle in Tarnobrzeg county. :):)

The garden next to the castle features more such statues:

PS. Unfortunately, I need to take a break from the riddle thread as I am going to prepare new riddles which will take some time. All riddle masterminds - have fun while I am away and good luck in guessing. :):)

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

The temperature dropped to freezing levels last night and are forecasted low tonight too - as low as minus 6. Fortunately, I had moved half the crops to a safer place - white and black radish (diversity rulez again!). I also dug out the remnants of cauliflower, red beetroot and leek. The rest are still in the ground - carrot, parsley, celery, artichoke, chicory, turnip.

I also gathered a few piles of veg leaves for the rabbit. :):)

The season is slowly ending - I just collected last tri colour raspberries. I still must replant some young trees and bushes which I once put in the wrong place.

That was another fruitful year in our summer place. Thank you, Lord.

The freezing temperatures have set down the period of winter hibernation for me. I need to take a rest now. See you when it gets warmer. Good morning, and in case I don't see ya: Good afternoon, good evening, and good night! hahahaha

I try so hard with your riddles and you give up so easily :( :(

It just occured to me that you thought I had not tried to solve your riddle and skipped it. Of course not, I had but to no avail, I still have no idea.

Yes, but not located in Tarnow.

Yes, I know, I said Tarnów diocese. It can also be Tarnów county but I can`t find this statue. Neither the female one. I have never seen it.

The man in the statue is too tall for JP II. I'd say it's cardinal Wyszyński.

You don`t know those statue makers` crazy ideas - I wouldn`t call them sculptors coz that would be an insult to real sculptors.

No, they wouldn`t place Wyszyński so high up there in Tarnów diocese, they are very conservative. :):)

I try so hard with your riddles and you give up so easily :( :(

There are a few thousand cemeteries in Poland and each has a chapel. Do you think I should go through all of them? hahaha

So, first of all, are we still in Krakow series?

Obviously I did a bit more walking and exploring than you when you visited this place.

It is very probable. :) I don`t remember taking a photo of that chapel, probably it didn`t seem so special to me as I am looking at it now. I have seen many buildings like that.

Similarly, I could post a picture of a wooden church, there are a few hundred of them in Poland and ask members to guess the location. See below: hahahaha

I've never seen such a big one in a Polish cemetery.

It is an old chapel where the last mass service was or even still is celebrated before the funeral. Now they build much bigger ones.

The coat of arms suggests Tarnów diocese. Is it JPII statue?

Where can this be found? Probably far too easy for Pawian.......

Do you think I know all chapels in Polish cemeteries?? :):) I have no idea.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

It is quite easy - przy kości means at the bone as you said. What is at the bone? Meat and fat. So, a plump person hasn`t got only bones, but also sth more at the bone.

What is at the bone? Meat and fat.

Flesh, of course. Sometimes I don`t think. ]

to tamp sb into a bottle

Chemi, you have started joking! I can`t recongise you. :)

czuć w kościach, rozeszło się po kościach, policzyć komuś kości.

to feel it in the bones/ it gets spread over the bones/to count sb`s bones. Good ones - pity you didn`t translate them. :)

Nope, a guy, sometimes boy (still about an adult male) with bones means they are reliable, responsible, organised and such. The opposite to flak without bones. hahhaa

He's rolling cigars.

More exactly, he`s a leathermaker who specialises in engraving ornaments on leather accessories like wristbands, small belts etc.

the Monument to the Revolutionary Act located in the very center of Rzeszów

Yes, still standing there coz residents don`t want to get rid of their famous landmark.

I have never heard of pursemaker. Leatherworker or crafter is the best I can think of

I believe you. I have always believed you though you don`t return this affection. ):)

I don't haha!!

You don`t believe and even laugh. It is so cruel. :(:(

But that pic is typical of something that you post that is misleading ;)

I swear to all holy creatures (like holy cow) it wasn`t my intention to post a misleading post of the Mills of Krakow. Do you believe me? I didn`t even notice those rooftops, just looked at the metal towers.

You must believe me!

but I can only think of leatherworker if he is fashioning belts etc

In Poland it is kaletnik. How about pursemaker?

So it was those rooftoops which misled you? Why didn`t you share your doubts with me at the very beginning? I would have told you that those rooftops are in the foreground, while the MILLS of KRAKOW are in the background. :) I took a photo while visiting a friend living in a nearby housing estate.

Yes, those are grain silos. :) 4 containers for 4 kinds of grain. :):)

Yes, a gigantic sheep and an giant egg.

No alcohol production in the towers. Yet, they have sth in common with alcohol production. E..g, whisky............ :)

OK, let`s take a rest from this riddle for a while - Saturday should be relaxation time after all. :)

Another one:

What is the name of this reenactment man`s job?

Life / Mishmash facts about Poland and Poles [187]

Today the daylight time is changed in Poland by one hour, as usual every year. The winter change is positive coz we sleep one hour longer. In spring, the change back will be painful.

How about the US and the UK? Do you change times for winter and spring?

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

I am on the verge of telling you the truth but let me give you one more chance, please, don`t give up, you will guess it, as the best riddle solver here.

When I said you are close, I meant the facilities I showed and you mentioned (brewery, distillery) have sth important in common.

As for the gangplank, it isn`t one, those are pipes. Paradoxically, they are not for water. Think hard: what does a brewery, distillery have in common with a facility which features pipes for sth else than water?

Hint: recall the whole production process.
