I would like to think thats what most people want but plenty love hollwood movies.

That is just blind ignorance. your assertion that most Gazans are Egyptian is a common racist trope. Israelis claim that Said was Egyptian, Arafat was Egyptian despite the overwhelming evidence proving the claims are lies. Most Gazans trace their roots to Palestine proper, they were forced from their homes. Palestinians who lived in the levant for thousands of years developed their society as they saw fit even under the administration of the Ottomans. Claiming they lost the fight to manage it due to neglect is racism 101. Their society was destroyed by the British because they wanted to make their own decisions something that is fundamental to any people. It's not good for anyone.

The support for Israel from the "west" is twofold, the idea that they are bringing civilisation to unsophisticated peoples and solving Europes Jewish problem. The power dynamic that the colony offers to the west explains why it gets unfettered support despite what it does. The narrative in the west is of a plucky little country having to defend itself from a hoard of savages. This is an easy story to digest especially when coupled with religious tropes hence the invention of judeo-Christian values. This theological idea was deliberately changed to an overt political idea during the Cold War and now used to demonise migrants. The shifting semantics fits nicely with the expansion of the colony and its perception in the west. No one used judeo-Christian values outside of theology before the mid century.

The gulf dictators with their unimaginable wealth are courted in an attempt to repatriate the filthy lucre and these despots are loving their 15 minutes in the limelight. They however live in glass palaces. the power dynamic is against them. They are like a wildly successful rock band but the managers will end up with the money. The accumulation of wealth in one place is not good economics or politics. Iran with all its flaws standing up for itself and its ideas is good for the world. One idea they have is a single state solution to the colonial problem in the Levantine. The portrayal of an end to Zionism meaning death to Jews is a twisting of the situation.

Basically racist tropes like they made the desert bloom, they are Arabs let them go elsewhere, they are shepherds and so on is basically the last acceptable racism (excluding anti Catholic stuff) among the chattering classes. This is changing despite Israeli censorship, you can't hide a live streamed genocide or push it aside with a load of platitudes. The latest abomination or IDF pastime, of starving people then shooting them when presented with the chance of obtaining food would trigger a very different response if it were anyone else.

The reason is that both China and Russia put an end to NATO's rampage after Libya. No more rubber stamp or abstentions hence the "west's" support for the head choppers in Syria. Syria was sanctioned for doing less than Israel is doing but they are pumped with weapons and intelligence.

I am not a fan of Putin or his invasion, I think the twin towers attack was unforgivable. The point is that there is clearly an a la cart attitude to this. Israel is allowed to do anything it wishes with impunity and I find that disturbing. Israel is a nuclear state and we all know how they became so, they then went on to helpApartheid South Africa develop wmds with no consequences. I have guesses but really don't understand why their abhorrent behaviour is tolerated by countries who pretend they are not facilitating genocide.

The usual hackneyed arguments are trotted out about Iran mainly about hair covering and skirt length as though they cared. Israel does much worse to Palestinian women.

When Egypt had free elections the border was opened then there was a coup. Since then Israel has full control of the Egypt/Gaza border in breach of their treaty with Egypt. Most people in Gaza are from families ethnically cleansed from what became Israel. They do not have a right to return but some Americans and Russians with no connection to the place can go there as a right. Moral purity is to uphold the rules written by the "rules based order" they dont do that. Ukraine can also be called a lost cause and Putin does what he does because he is following the script written by NATO countries. PS I dont approve of what Putin is doing.

I understand there is a thread about the Levant but these things are intertwined.

Its not easy to find ethical investment opportunities with pension funds etc entwined in the chain. I would argue however that the bare minimum would be for countries to enforce court rulings. The ICJ found Israel responsible for the crime of apartheid meaning that there should be sanctions imposed by those countries that claim to abide by the so called rules based order. There have been 40,000 refugees created in the west bank in the past year and where do those people go? A lot will try to reach Europe and North America. Both places have differing degrees of responsibility for the creation of these refugees.

European defence industries would then be a great place to invest. I do feel uncomfortable with private institutions profiting from tax payer money so favour the nationalised model for essential industries. Have all the competition you want between toothpaste and vacuum companies but public utilities should be run for the benefit of the electorate. Privatisation has been a disaster exposing the competition argument for the nonsense it is. Ending large investors ability to unduly profit from government contracts is a must. Small, private investors wouldnt make much difference and I see no harm in allowing them to gamble after all we have bingo and the lottery.

No one has a solution and one wont emerge until Israel stops breaking international law, ends the current genocide and dismantles the apartheid state they have created with the help of the so called rules based international order.

The interesting thing is that all those who get hot under the collar about Ukraine dont give a fcuk about international law when it comes to Palestine. Where is the outcry about herding Palestinians into cattle pens to give them some food because Israel has weaponised aid.

The Palestinian partition plan was contrary to the founding principals of the UN, a kind of original sin. But we are where we are. Perhaps the Israelis in general and the IDF in particular could give Hamas pointers in how to transition from an ethnocentric terrorist organisation into the most moral army in the world? Looking at Europe it wouldn't be an over generalisation to say that migration increased after the fall of the wall. The question is what caused it, I think there are two causes firstly the movement of capital and people are always intertwined so globalisation contributed. The second is the creation of refugees with the crazy middle east wars. Both these things are a result of an unfettered right leaning economic agenda.

Nationalists play on the nostalgia we all have but tend to follow economic policies which are contrary to their main selling point. Thankfully they all hate each other and are certain to fail as they cant square their internal contradictions.

In Britain 14 years of eccentric right wing governments led to a huge rise in unchecked migration, a hollowing out of public services, huge public debt and empty coffers.
