Life / Any good Polish films to watch? [112]

According to Goya, oops! It was alright, nothing special. I liked the fact that it showed the linguistic side of high-level soldiers.

I don't know if this is a good film as I haven't watched it yet but I like the topic so I imagine so.

Demony Wojny Wg Goi (The Demons of War according to Goi).

Crow might like it as it concerns the Polish regiment in IFOR, a large peacekeeping force in Bosnia in 1996. The film itself came out in 1998.

I'm off to watch it :)

News / THE ARMY OF POLAND - THE REALITY [493]

Sok, must everything be about GDP? I don't think he was referring to the economy, reading between the lines. Poland cannot trust Poles, I see exactly what he is trying to say here. Let him elaborate and I'll likely have my suspicions of his intentions confirmed.

Love / Polish Women Versus Your Local Women ? [289]

Well, you have to judge individuals and make the call accordingly. I know what you mean about the warning but for different reasons.

One of those sly posters that takes pot shots and runs away. I do find Polish women to be a bit weirder and temperamental but that's probably because I am here. If I were in Scotland or elsewhere, my tune might change. I think he can see my point.

Food / Does beer have any "real" expire date? [39]

David, be careful that you yourself don't have an expiry date after drinking them ;0 ;)

If in doubt, safety first! They are not antiques that can't be found elsewhere. Krombacher is quite easy to come across.

Wrocław is the voice of reason, I'd go with his advice :)

Just look at them as expiring on the 8th of December 2012 and all will be well :)

David, the Star of Israel, you do your people proud with your stinginess ;) ;)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Japanese counters are harder I think. There are irregularities due to sound.

I fancy an honest test in Polish counters. I came undone when I had to guess the Polish for 6 horses.

If the resident Poles wouldn't mind, I could try 1 of sth, 2 of sth and 5 of sth. Jedno piwo, dwa piwa i pięc piw, for example. I wouldn't look them up, I promise.

Japanese is level 4, interesting! Is Polish in the same bracket? I don't find either that hard (I mean overly hard) and can more than get by on both. Heck, I picked up a version of The Ring which I assumed was in English. It was in Japanese with Polish subtitles so I comfortably got by. It's largely about state of mind. If you are relaxed and receptive then language comes that bit easier.

You just have to be careful when language deserts you. There have been occasions where both my Polish and Japanese have let me down in administrative places but maybe it was due to the pressure of needing to be precise/accurate.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

The thing about a forest is lurking potential. There were definitely many people in those woods and more needs to be known about them and what they were up to.

... there are multiple copies of this on Youtube. These people could have been up to no good. Why were they there? I always suspect America in such cases. A rogue state (set of states) based on profit and immorality.

I'd be wary of the contents of the 'investigation'. It will be loaded and evidence will be highly selective. The black box findings are not going to be published either which would seem to be an infraction of freedom of information. They may be classed as highly sensitive and all major powers are going doing this line in the name of public safety and security.

Language / Nice Polish words to say to a girl [147]

Jesteś aniołkiem jak coś, KP.

Jesteś moim aniołkiem is sweet, especially if she is called Ania.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

M-G, da da! How did you know? ;) ;)

Just kidding, BB is right. The pilot seems to be at fault but he had the plane at an unnatural angle and you just don't do that when there are so many trees. You maintain a horizontal position and don't leave any margin for error. Also, they would have known if that plane was fit for that runway well in advance. That's why some flight paths aren't opened in the first place, despite there being a high level of demand. I've been in a plane where fog was causing some complications and had to circle round once again but composure helps. Pilots are trained not to panic and to take evasive maneuvers that don't jeopardise the safety of the crew.

As everyone else is saying, let's wait for the results of the investigation.

I expect the truth, Crow. This is not the time for paranoia about sinister forces who couldn't have done anything from a Smolensk forest anyway.

Unless you present a credible case, Crow, the position is clear. No outside forces were involved.

this is a bit out there but does ask some pertinent questions. Leave no stone unturned when seeking out the truth.

I hope Russia isn't acting out of guilt. Any foul play on their part and there will be disastrous consequences for them. I can't see it, though.
