News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Another day, and yet another example of PiS destroying communities. This time, it concerns hospitals in the Greater Poland province, three of which are due to be shut down by PiS. The doctors at one of the hospitals have issued an open letter protesting about the decision.

eoborniki.pl/informacje/lokalne/7472-przeciwko-likwidacji-szpitala-w-kowanowku.html

A complete disgrace. PiS promised to be "for the people", but all they've done is order expensive VIP planes for their own use while closing down badly needed hospital facilities.

I wonder what is that all about tunnel between Szczecin and Wolin?

It wouldn't be much cheaper to build a big enough bridge. Most Zawacka in Toruń cost about €180 million, and it might not be high enough to ensure unobstructed access to Szczecin, especially as the Tall Ships are always there.

A tunnel makes much more sense there, as you simply don't have to worry about clearance issues.

that those are actually the saddest, most pathetic creatures on God's good earth!

Really?

Strange, because Jon and I know of a transvestite who appears to be very content with his life, and is well liked in his circles. Don't we, Jon?

but....TVN pulled a similar stunt last Saturday depicting the failed 12,000-strong march into a huge, seemingly endless flowing mass of humanity.

Polly, best not to post such things if they can be easily disproved.

newsweek.pl/polska/polityka/ile-osob-bylo-na-marszu-wolnosci-zobacz-wideo,film,409834.html?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fb_nw

This shows clearly and without doubt how many people were in Warsaw.

There's clearly more than 12000 there, though who knows what the real number was. The march was a success, and may I remind you that the counter protest attracted...4?

Polonius, rather than making a personal attack, perhaps you wish to explain to us why PiS are closing down ambulance stations (which are located at the two main hospitals for Bieszczady) and replacing them with a single crew based in north-central Bieszczady?

Just to inform our readers properly, PiS want to locate the ambulance crew in Olszanica, and that single crew is supposed to provide cover for the entire region. From there to the furthest point (Wołosate) is over 60km, and if an ambulance is needed in Sanok, it will take the crew 90 minutes to get there from Wołosate.

The other recent news concerns drugs for children post-transplant. Prices for them are rising from a handful of złoty to over 1000zł. It's a cynical, desperate move by a government that needs to find money to bribe the electorate. However, I doubt people in Bieszczady will care about 500+ if they know that there's no chance of getting an ambulance in an emergency.

Of course, in the PRL, which Ironside and Polonius hold so dear to their hearts, emergency cover was similarly non-existent in Bieszczady due to the terrible roads at the time.

It was always "what's good for the clique", our side, our oldboys, our servile stooges, our useful idiots

That sounds exactly like PiS. TKM was invented by them, after all.

Now they're trying again, and will lose.

Not a surprise. They want/need the money to distribute it to their supporters, just as they've been doing with numerous other funds that have recently been brought under central government control.

News / President Duda rules out homo marriage in Poland as banned by the constitution [172]

On the contrary, it's a sign of poltical prudence and maturity.

More accurately, it's a sign of PiS being opportunists.

By the way, if Duda is so concerned about the voice of the people, where is our referendum on the education debate? He should start by consulting the people on issues that they deem important enough to talk about, such as this one.

They'll certainly need a 2/3 majority in any referendum to make such a change.

What they're attempting to do is to try and win a referendum so that they can claim the 2/3rds requirement in the Sejm is "not valid".

I predict the idea will be dropped as soon as the opinion polls come back showing a clear no for their idea.

It's just hot air. Duda knows fine well that he's heading for defeat in 2020 unless they can change the Constitution to rig a PiS victory in 2019. It might also be a way to eliminate the State Tribunal so that he can avoid punishment for his wrongdoing.

More to the point, opinion polls show that only 35% of Poles want a new Constitution.

Another day, another "good change".

This time, it concerns the very rural areas of Bieszczady in the south-east of Poland. It's a large area, notable for the fact that the roads are very winding and transport between towns is often difficult, especially in winter.

facebook.com/events/1958273384401448

PiS plans to take away one of the two ambulance crews serving the region. It's a large region, with the ambulance crew in Usztryki Dolne covering Eastern Bieszczady - some villages are as much as 50km away. The plan is to combine the two crews (one in Usztryki and the other in Sanok, covering Western Bieszczady) into a single crew, meaning that cover will be reduced by 50% in the region while the single crew will be expected to have knowledge of a vast area.

"Good Change", indeed. But hey, as long as the PiS fatcats have their huge salaries in state owned companies, they can perfectly well afford private hospitals in Warsaw. What about the small man in his village in Bieszczady?

Do you think Le Pen will join Putin in a crusade against Poland?

Quite possibly so. The sanctions are really hurting Russia economically, and Poland has been one of the loudest supporters of them. If France starts demanding that NATO troops pull out of Poland, there will be some real issues ahead, especially as some other countries aren't very keen on the idea of NATO troops being near a potential flashpoint. Le Pen is also unpredictable, and from the FN's point of view, picking a fight with Poland is winnable.

Macron isn't perfect, but at least he isn't in Moscow's pocket.

Also - this - independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/marine-le-pen-elections-france-president-latest-employment-contract-tax-foreigners-national-priority-a7559121.html

Which would hurt Polish workers in France. Macron is annoyed about jobs going to Poland, but that's a sentiment found all over France and the UK right now.

Another day, another "good change". This time, it concerns the honorary consul that refused to accept an award from Duda, who has been swiftly punished by losing his position.

wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114871,21757720,konsul-ktory-odmowil-przyjecia-orderu-z-rak-andrzeja-dudy.html

Shameful. The pettiness of this government knows no limits.

Anyone who is not corrupted by the globalists is a safer option for the entire world, including Poland.

So you back the candidate that is being backed by Russian money in order to further the Russian agenda in the world.

Nothing more to say Wulkan, nothing more to say.

Straight answer, Polly: are you in fact suggesting that Le Pen represents less of a threat to Poland than Macron?

The fugitive prime minister has called Macron "the safest candidate in terms of Poland's interests."

Are you suggesting that Le Pen represents a safer option for Poland?

Law / Buying a car in Poland for business and ZUS declarations [5]

I'm not sure you'll be able to apply the full VAT return if you transfer the car for private use like that. Talk to your accountant and see what they're comfortable with, but I think if you transfer the car for personal use within a short period of time, you'll have to pay VAT on the value of the vehicle at least.

Law / Buying a car in Poland for business and ZUS declarations [5]

I presume I can claim back the VAT and offset the cost of the vehicle against my quarterly tax return?

Yes, you can. However, there are quite complicated calculations involved, meaning you'd be wise to use an accountant to ensure that you do it properly.

Generally speaking, a much easier option is to buy a car personally, then just claim so-called "kilometrówki" based on the kilometres driven for business use.

kalkulatory.gofin.pl/Kilometrowka-kalkulator-kosztow-uzywania-samochodu-prywatnego-do-celow-sluzbowych,12.html

You can't claim VAT back with this, but 0.84zł per km driven for business purposes isn't bad.

She is not really a representative of Poland is she.

Of course she is. She was made an honorary consul, which brings with it the duty of representing Poland abroad. They also receive special ID cards, and are expected to behave in the manner expected of diplomats. Don't you even have the slightest bit of shame that such an idiot was representing Poland abroad?

I don't have problems with communists delph. I have no time for them.

Still waiting for your condemnation of all the ex-PZPR types in PiS.

What allegedly has she done? Post some memes with Tusk? So what?

It really says a lot about you as a person if you think it's appropriate for representatives of Poland to post such things about world leaders.

Another showed PiS with 37% support.

And PO with 34%. The two parties are effectively neck and neck, and all the polls are showing Tusk defeating Duda easily in the 2nd round of the Presidential election.

The arrogance of PiS in throwing out over 900,000 signatures also did them harm.

In fact I wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't do it as well, not even against some of the worst idiots in politics in Poland. It's crass, tasteless and a sign of a woman that has achieved nothing in life, unlike President Tusk.

PiS will almost certainly bin her, then give her some nice job representing the Polonia with a high monthly salary.

It's also been discovered that she was suspended from her duties as an lawyer in Pennsylvania. Why? The information isn't yet public, but it's another sign that PiS are appointing people with a bad record to public office.

Another day, another scandal with PiS.

This time, it concerns the wife of Wieslaw Binienda, better known as one of the architects of the Smolensk conspiracy theory. His wife, Maria Szonert-Binienda was recently made an honorary consul in their town in Ohio by PiS, and she promptly repaid the favour by posting pictures of Tusk online as a Nazi.

thenews.pl/1/9/Artykul/304954,Polish-honorary-consul-suspended
What makes this case even funnier is that she keeps changing her story about why she did it. First, she claimed that it was her private Facebook account and that she could post what she wants there, before then claiming that her account was hacked. Instead of having the honour to resign, she is clinging on to her position.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Waszczykowski continues to perform badly, and this matter is the latest example of incompetence and unprofessionalism by the PiS junta.

It almost certainly would happen if PiS were stupid enough to attempt show trials in a kangaroo court.

This is also the reason why PiS haven't even attempted to lay charges on a single high profile member of the PO/PSL government.
