UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [283]

It is a particularly grisly case

There's an odd fascination wit( true crime (and of course the media, tv and bookshops are full of it.

I remember as a teen there was a real panic near my village. Something nasty had been found. Remember, this was just after the Yorkshire Ripper, that guy who killed the Laitner family in Sheffield after the wedding reception then went on the run locally and a serial rapist called the Fox who broke into peoples houses and also went on the run.

The panic was unjustified though. There was a lot of dismembered flesh however it was vacuum packed with Sainsbury's labels. Someone's freezer had obviously broken down.

He's pleaded not guilty to both murder and manslaughter

That's seems strange since the was using the victim's bank account and sending birthday cards to his relatives pretending to be him. That would be very difficult to credibly explain away.

It has a few echoes of this horrible case:
While searching the home of a detained 40-year-old Polish bricklayer, German police uncovered a shocking find: mutilated bodies were discovered in his refrigerator.

Feedback / Getting logged out of PF [26]

@Barney

CCleaner just does it superficially. All his downloaded images are retrievable by law enforcement agencies.

It can be handy if your computer is an old one and has a very small memory and you've been online a lot but that's about it.

it always clears all my passwords and log in names.

That's because it clears all cookies and anything in the cache. If I post here on a work computer, I clear the history on Firefox just for privacy. If you've not got a problem with memory size, you may as well just do it that way, and some people say that CCleaner can cause damage.

A particularly grisly murder.

The dismembered corpse of a 67 year old man was found in various parts of a nature reserve near Manchester last week

The murder trial's happening now. There's only one person on trial now; perhaps the other person originally charged hasn't gone to trial.

Further body parts were found .....including his heart, a kidney, lungs and genitalia.

A piece of Everett's spine was discovered at Boggart Hole Clough while a further 10 body parts, which appeared to have been sawn from his body, were discovered at Linnyshaw Colliery Wood. Parts of Everett's head and face were found at Blackleach reservoir

[About a third of the body was recovered by police. Majerkiewicz appeared in court wearing a grey tracksuit with a shaved head. He heard the proceedings through a Polish interpreter.

theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/mar/04/man-sent-texts-from-housemates-phone-after-killing-him-manchester-court-told

It looks like he didn't hold back. I find it hard enough to bone a joint of meat to stuff it and cook it. It must have been a hassle to do all that.

It's a full trial, so the defendant must have pleaded not guilty.

It says in the article that he was sending birthday cards after the person died and was using bank accounts however we shouldn't second guess a jury since they hear more of the evidence than the public. Having said that, it can't be easy for the defence lawyers in such a trial

History / Lech Walesa - Happy Birthday! [54]

They

Yugoslavians? Who knows?

President Wałęsa reminds me of Arthur Scargill. A flawed hero. Sometimes intemperate but essentially decent and he stepped up and did his duty at the time it was needed.

The letter's been replaced with a link to a website I'm not a fan of but yes, it's very worth reading.

Here's the actual text of President Wałęsa's letter this week. It's a bit long as a quote, however since it's a Polish President and a world crisi, hopefully Admin will allow it.

Nice to see that he capitalises the wretched word russia properly.

so could you please stop this talk

People stopped at least half a dozen posts ago.

If that talk makes you uncomfortable, it's worth mentioning that it's only those posts that you respond to. The other ones offering useful information go without comment.

Are you planning to visit Poland? It's a nice place to come.

buy gold and silver.

It's high, very high, right now, however in the long term it goes up. Gold, anyway.

Every time I've asked a so-called investment whizzkid if I should buy gold or not, the answer has always been no. Yet it rises and rises.

Best to buy in ingots, sealed in plastic. Some buy gold that never leaves the vault however I like to hold it.

Sovereigns are nice to have but they do sell at a discount.

BAe Systems shares have rocketed today, as have Thales and Rheinmetall. Rolls Royce are doing pretty well this week too. America's loss is Europe's gain.

not a common name

It is rare.

If you put it into the search box at nazwiska-polskie.pl/ it will tell you (screenshot below) that there are only six people with that name, all living in the same small village called Kurzętnik close to Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. The Boleszyn in question is likely to be the one in northern Poland.

It was actually Polish from 1920 though the German and German speaking population was a significant size and in the war became part of Germany rather than an occupied territory.

The point I am making is why twist the obviously Polish name.

As far as I can see, it was just something that Ron suggested on the basis of the name's sound. I'm not sure if Ron speaks Polish or has ever lived in PL.

I was puzzled too by the comment, since it didn't sound like anything other than a usual Polish surname.

Boleszyn

There are two. One in the north in an area which I think was German territory before the war, albeit with a large Polish population and the other in central Poland (the Holy.Cross Mountains - we have a poster here from there).

Law / Custody Issue and Travel Abroad of my Girlfriend from Poland [31]

It looks like there's some movement on this very sad case.

The children should be brought home and the parent who abducted them needs to be brought to justice along with any public employees who assisted them in this. It looks like it will be very expensive for Poland.

Poland is facing legal action from the European Commission over the case of a British father who has not seen his two children for years after they were taken to the continent by their mother.
Polish courts have repeatedly ignored rulings from their English counterparts that the children should be returned to the UK after their illegal removal in 2021.
Polish judges have cited Brexit when ruling in favour of the mother, who abducted the children to her native Poland despite the British courts twice rejecting her applications to move them there.
The Polish embassy has also been accused of improper interference in the case after it wrote to the English family court to ask it to prevent the father, who was born in the UK, from making further legal applications to try to access his children

clear that Tesla stock is having a disastrous 2025

That's unlikely to change, however their Chinese rivals of course aren't open to investment.

The other side of the Atlantic is not a place I'd invest in at the moment. And I still think term deposits are good, especially in mutually owned providers.

What a load of rubbish.

Why shouldn't there be a trade deficit, especially when you consume so much?

trump who is busy pumping shitcoin

His ' cryptobros' probably cut him in.

I have no problem with individuals buying it - in theory it's their own risk

Unfortunately so much of it is a scam, pushed online to very naive people in developing countries.

on a strategic reserve of shitcoins. Absolutely insane

They should be hunting down 'cryptocurrency' and arresting those involved rather than buying that non-existent money.

rump is going to screw Americans

It's a worry. If their economy tanks, the ripples will spread to other more fiscally responsible countries.

Greed always has its consequences.

It's quite funny that the stupider ones think that anyone who dislikes a particularly controversial and globally disliked politician must have some sort of non-existent 'syndrome'.
