Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [818]

that white part has something in common with a candle, actually :)

A lamp?

It does look a bit like a lightbulb, however could it be a kids' nightlight?

Looks like Rolls Royce shares will be on the up.

Rolls-Royce has won a competition to be the first company to try to build small modular nuclear reactors in the UK, as part of a government effort to push Britain to the frontier of nuclear energy technology.

The UK's Great British Energy on Tuesday announced Rolls-Royce as the preferred bidder for the programme, after a drawn-out competition that pitted the FTSE 100 manufacturer against two US-owned companies..................... It will aim for 70% of the parts to be based in the UK, although the delay has already meant Rolls-Royce has chosen a non-UK supplier for crucial pressure vessels.

Reeves said: "The UK is back where it belongs, taking the lead in the technologies of tomorrow with Rolls-Royce SMR as the preferred partner for this journey."
Tom Greatrex, the chief executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said it was "a hugely significant moment for Rolls-Royce SMR and for the British nuclear programme", highlighting the potential for exports of the technology.
While the UK is due to get the first reactor, Rolls-Royce has already agreed to produce an SMR in the Czech Republic, and it is in the final two in a competition in Sweden.

This is massive. A couple of American firms were seething in anger and begging their government to intervene so they could get the lion's share rather than losing out. I did worry that this may form part of the trade deal with the US, which it evidently now doesn't. The French wanted in as well.

Most of the patents for SMRs are held in the UK and this will be a very big earner for Britain as well as create a lot of jobs (many more than the initial 3,000) over the years. It would be great if Polish companies could have a role too.

I'm glad I held onto those RR shares and bought some more yesterday.

unfortunately, there are also unfortunate accidents every year. People arrive at the "rocks" and end up in the hospital or in a coffin.

Same for us. Narrow paths on steep hills in the northern part of a rainy country are dangerous.

Given that this thread is about things we love, I might post a picture of my living room. The decorators have been doing the whole apartment and are due to finish today. I'm away from home for the rest of the month but have been getting photo updates. It looks lush.

making the paralysed walk again....making the blind see again...that is so much bigger

That is the work of the scientists, doctors, nurses involved.

The doped up fascist billionanire doing Nazi salutes and who has spaceships never touches a test tube.

There is no need for him.

If Jesus ran a wine merchants (a missed opportunity for Him, given certain skills), he'd serve tiny amounts to taste and always put a bad one in the mix so the better ones stand out.

So inflation in the EU is not a problem.

Or is it a problem
Anywhere else in Europe except parts of the Balkans. If Bulgaria enters the Eurozone it will be Greece squared.

The EU is extremely authoritarian. geez! Still, they are extremely incompetent, too

They aren't particularly authoritarian as an organisation (at least no more than you'd expect a trade association to be) however yes, they're mired in crippling bureaucracy and have a ridiculous librerum veto which strangles progress.

she is normally using Bombay Sapphire

The wine that Napoleon loved. 🍷

Not my favourite specimen of humanity, but even fanatical tyrants can have good taste in wine.

Gevrey-Chambertin is of course cheaper than Le Chambertin and there's never a bad bottle.

In 199-whatever when the French had their bicentennial of their murderous revolution, there was the official wine of that, a Marsannay with a tricolour on the bottle. It was pleasant enough and we drank plenty however if you tasted it next to a good Marsannay the difference leapt out at you right away.

Something to watch out for with French wines

Bordeaux

I tend to prefer them from the other side, Côtes du Rhône and further north. A lot about the variety and depth. Marketed differently too so you can find some excellent wines at reasonable prices
