Language / IS "MURZYN" word RACIST? [686]

See above. Get a dictionary and check the meaning of the word 'context'. Better still, ask a person of colour about Casual Racism.

I didn't know

I suspect there are far more things you don't know than you do.

The Polish word murzyn is neutral

And is it always used with neutral intent? Is anyone ever offended to be described as that in a context where their roots aren't relevant?

malmo molenbeek

This myth has been debunked so many times.

And has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the high levels of support that Poland has for EU membership.

Muslims

You really are obsessed.

The same

It isn't the same though, is it. The root is the same.

Can't you find a way to speak about millions of people that doesn't objectify them?

honestly Kaprys, once someone starts whining about not being able to use racist terms, complaining that we are 'too PC' ...then I can see what kind of people they are.

Very well said, Roz.

Some people just fear whatever is different, is new. There are actually neurological reasons some people feel that way. Use of certain words that offend some (the users always deny an intended offence, though when you hear who says it and the context they use it in, this doesn't always ring true) is a symptom of this.

Moors

Moors are a particular cultural group, there are 'white moors' and 'black moors'. Refering to the whole of Africa (and people of colur elsewhere) as Moors, is a bit like calling all white people Kaszubs.

Very litle to do with Polish Citizens' support for the EU. Perhaps PF should get rid of all the individual threads and rename itself Islamophobia Forum...

And how did they get that way?

Poverty, Maf.

the newspeak

The term originates with the Church - perhaps you should call it 'churchspeak', instead of jerking your permanently bitter knee at everything that is a positive step to help the marginalised...

go up to the next black man you see and say whatever you class to be suitably non PC.

Keyboard warriors, Roz. Just grumbling about change, and how the wicked world happens without them.

before poland looks elsewhere for partners

Being right next to such a massive economy, it would be odd to look elsewhere. In any case, a significant part of Poland's production is under German ownership.

Britain left eu

It hasn't left yet, and right now anything could happen. They've just agreed that free movement will continue.

No ones threatened to kick poland out. Idk where you came up with that

Nor do I, since I didn't 'come up with it'. I do wish you'd stop trying to put words in people's mouths.

no go zones = special urban zone

These are not 'no go zones', they're Urban Priority Areas, a different animal.

the billions of euros they invested

Indeed, hence the pvssyfooting around so far.

the Germans

It's an important market for them, plus a source of raw materials and processed foods.

Poland actually signed a rather significant deal with them recently.

Everyone has. Good that Poland has. In some ways, anyway.

There are probably a hundred other, better, kids fiction books that have just the same message.

here's other aspects of eu membership aside from

Most aspects are aside from that, though on this forum a few people mention little else.

Thatd be like saying we should kick every country out of NATO that doesn't immediately spend at least 2% of GDP. Stupid right?

Didn't Trump suggest that. Certainly if it's a rule there has to be a way of enforcing that rule - NATO like the EU is about shared goals and resources. If one member of a team doesn't want to play, should the rest of the team just let them sit in the corner sulking and grousing?

no go zones

Yet another of the myths that get a certain type of person all worked up.

btw I haven't seen 'Murzynek Bambo' in current Polish school books

No bad thing at all, however it does still crop up in schools.

in UK children's books as well, but times have changed.

Some people just get all hot and bothered about making minor but sensible changes, while ignoring the bigger issues.

That's their right to decide who to let in and not.

As it's the EU's right to expect that all members either fully take part or lose out on the full benefits of membership.

Interesting that the usual suspects are trying to draw the thread around to their favourite subject - hatred and fear of particular groups in society.

The changes they fear will happen anyway - it would be a shame if Poland is less prepared than other states when it inevitably comes.

more than half of em left for Germany anyway.

So no reason for those who get all worked up about it to worry. Take the people, let them disperse to better places and save the 2bn.

Personally I think poland and v4 should just wait it out

Of course, rather than stressing over something that will happen gradually anyway.

But should we censor 'Murzynek Bambo' then?

We should see it as a thing of its time. Plenty more stories to tell in schools, plenty written all the time, plenty of old ones that endure through the ages. No reason to fetishise tales from a century ago that only became popular because there wasn't as much new stuff around at the time than there has been since.

It's worked fairly well between Poland and the UK. I remember all the hassle back in the bad old days, queues for documents, hassles at the border.

Exactly. People forget that the vast majority of terrorism in Europe is carried out by EU citizens, and has been that way for many, many years.

Some people just like to look for enemies, without addressing the root causes of an issue. Nevertheless support for EU membership is strong in Poland - 88% of those polled are in favour.

Free movement has worked very well for Poland.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

there are many internal problems in Russia, such as corruption, etc. And also need to change a lot

That would be a very big step forward (and good that you acknowledge this); certainly one that will happen eventually with geo-political change and the end of petro-economy, however this is a long way ahead.

groups of specialists from both sides

I'm not sure that any new 'specialists' would shed any light onto facts that are very well documented already.

A huge apology, acknowlegement of crimes and huge financial compensation, all by Russia would need to be a starting point. Russia's crimes against Poland are not in any doubt.

We aren't talking about anything else other than what Russia has to do in order to make amends for its horrific crimes in Poland. Since you're interested, I'm from more than one place (none anywhere near Russia) and have lived in Poland probably longer than you've been alive and am a proud Polish Citizen.

So tell us, how important do you consider the massive financial reparations that Russia owes Poland, as well as releasing all information about the agents it runs there?

You should read this, and understand that not only is friendship a long way off, but also in order to even begin to normalise any relationship, Russia has a lot of amends to make:

you have some kind of mania

There you go again.

Putin

Impossible to mention Russia and ignore its murderous kleptocratic dictator. The removal of him, his cronies and the whole rotten system there would be an absolute precondition for any sort of 'friendship' with Russia.

I speak from myself!

Yeah, right. So where are you living?

Answer that one, as well as the question you quoted in the previous post.

I do not care 'cause i am not living in Russia

Tell us more. Where are you living? Do you have a transmitter in the attic and a stilleto up your sleeve. But great that you:

do not care who is there in the Kremlin

For decades Poland's economy was stymied,

Yes. For longer even - Poland largely missed out on the Industrial Revolution, in those areas dominated by Russians.
