Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

So why choose Africa at all as an example to advocate genital mutilating. After all, you brought the place up.

no i didn't. get your $hit straight people. Africa was used as a point of reference by mondafinil, I responded to it.

Hello Natasia, No one is trying to convince you that Poland is backwards just because of this.

glad someone else on here is speaking some voice of reason. i've had enough of people generalizing on here and grouping me into something i simply don't represent.

this forum continually tries to make people out to be monsters and it's unfair. you say one thing negative and suddenly anything negative that's been brought up on an entire thread magically becomes your point of view as well in their eyes. it makes carrying on a conversation pretty futile.

as well as the pointless practice of circumcision

your words, not mine. stop grouping me in with the others.

international hospital practice

there's international, and then there's a continent with the most 3rd world countries in the world where access to clean drinking water is rare and running water.......forget it, that number could be in the single digits. the point being, choosing Africa as a reference for "circumcisions gone bad" is just plain silly.

There speaks the voice of someone who's never been there!

right, because you've seen countless circumcisions performed in Africa with your own eyes.

men circumcised in Africa could be subject to a complication rate of 35% for a traditional circumcision or 18% for a clinical circumcision.

we are talking about medical operations in Africa, are we not? half the circumcisions there are probably conducted inside a mud hut with a sharp piece of shale rock.

Thats a typical American sensitivity, yours in particular. So I would think you understand and forgive it.

No. It's typical 'PolishForums'.

How about leaving the USA for once, go and visit any random country, and try some open criticism in public?

Are you kidding? I lived in Europe for 4 straight years, Poland actually. You've mistaken me for someone else I guess.

it isn't.

What makes you so sure? Surely after spending a few weeks on this forum, anyone can see that it's the norm. What....suddenly it's going to change?

We know you're just here to troll, but do try harder next time.

I disagree. Whether you agree with what he wrote or not, it's pretty well thought out and I can totally understand a lot of what he's saying.

All this thread is going to generate is the typical Polish defenders who simply cannot take any criticism about their country.....maybe another thing the OP should have mentioned about Poland. Polish people love to complain and $hit on their country.....but only they're allowed to do it. Someone from the "outside" says it and they will fight tooth and nail to deny it.

i give this thread just a few more hours till it turns into a Poland vs. USA thing (even though the OP isn't American).

Britain's incidence is commonly known to be due to higher levels of promiscuity.

I would also guess that the USA's higher levels are greatly due to the large homosexual population and african american population, 2 groups that have a much higher STD infection rate than the rest of the USA's population. America has a loooooooooooooot of homosexuals and tens of millions of african americans....and a lot of african american homosexuals for that matter.

No. Even where it isn't practised, you find the odd one, and even where boys and men are routinely mutilated you find people lucky enough not to have bits cut off them. I speak from experience ;-)

Dude......"No" what? What are you saying "No" to?

Not necessarily. Most of them are probably dreaming of an undamaged one.

Keep telling yourself that. It's ok.

Read back in this thread for some comments from women....

women that grew up in countries where it isn't practiced.

women (most of them at least) that probably haven't even experienced a snipped one.

women that have boyfriends/husbands with unsnipped ones that are obviously going to be partial, regardless of what they really think out of respect for their man.

try asking american women the same question and see what they think about it.

those who've had the misfortune to have it done.....

and knowingly appreciate it because chicks dig it. when women start telling men they prefer it the other way, society will stop doing it.

Fuzzzzzzz, my response for you was a clever copy of your clever answer to Lyzko's "Fuzz, where's the confusion??":

Holy mackerel......I mean....I wanted to say "Captain Obvious" 3 posts ago but........I gotta move on from this.

This means that it is still not that difficult for the Polish children and people!

ridiculous. would you like me to shoot that full of holes?

It would be interesting to know why Old English or Middle English have simplified themselves in terms of case system or verb conjugation?

really?

i can't have this conversation. it's amateur hour up in here.

Fuzz, where's the confusion??

I truly...honestly....don't know what you mean by that question. Therefore, I have no answer.

Furthermore, the thing is that the Polish structure simply sounds "unnatural" to an English speaker, that's all:-)

Every language that isn't your own sounds "unnatural". That's a nonstatement. And no, that's not all. Polish structure is the least of most people's problems. The case system, the ridiculous numbering system, verb conjugation....just to name a few presents much larger problems.

yeh sure narrative present...and I says to him, nooooo, and he turns rounds and says......and then he is like yeeeeehhhh...etc etc.
Yes narrative present, it's well known.

holy mackerel you guys have completely lost me. what are you talking about.

Nowy Dziennik read "Wisława Szymborska nie żyje!"

But in English when you say someone "is dead" or "is not alive" there is still no past tense verb.

anyway, Polish is a lot harder to learn than English. That's what's up.

I would presume by "mówi", and not "mówił", that present rather than past is indicated:-)
Then again, idiomatic usage prevails, throwing off ALL preconceived notions of correctness.

"but check this out......so the guy says to me....why are you doing that? and you know what, I say to the guy....."

look familiar?

poles tell stories often times the same exact way. in fact it's very convenient because when i am telling a story to my mother in law, i can think in english and use the tenses the same as in my language.

Take your sweet time puzzlin' over that one!

no need.

take any language and read a sentence without context, the same problems exist.

"Ale sluchaj......chlopak mowi do mnie.....po co robisz to? I wiesz co, mowie do niego...."

Am I talking about the present or past?

English is a much "easier" language, I finally gotta admit.

you said it right the first time, dude.

I don't care one way or the other but the line of reasoning you're trying to use is a joke.

i'm not arguing whether circumcision is necessary or not, that's an argument you're having with the others. i'm arguing the statements earlier saying that human nature couldn't possibly give us something unnecessary, inefficient, counterproductive, etc., suggesting we're this perfect design.

You could make the same list for anything in nature though:

i'm not arguing you couldn't and that only bolsters my point.

However, nature doesn't get it soooo wrong at such a consistent level as to endow every male of a species (and not just one species in this case) with something that shouldn't be there for so long.

again, there is a long list of things that nature gets sooooo wrong at a consistent rate, even though it shouldn't be there or isn't really necessary, unless you have some sort of explanation as to why foreskin is much less of a "mistake" compared to say an appendix in today's man.

foreskin only seems more significant to you because it's on the outside hanging off an intimate part of the body. again, not arguing for circumcision, just saying that you can't argue the necessity for it with that angle. it doesn't hold water.

they are not the plan, not how Nature actually intended.

oh OK, but I guess nature intended us to have:

weak, poorly built knees, spine, hips....some design huh?

women's pelvis/hips/birth canal way too small and weak for birth. before modern medicine, it was common for women to die from childbirth.....some design huh?

wisdom teeth that come in late in the teen years/early 20's that force the adult teeth in the mouth to shift and cause pain, infection, which is why we always have them removed. imagine the pain people were in years ago before modern dentistry. some design, huh?

constant sinus trouble like infection, polyps, snoring due to a restrictive airway....some design huh?

weak eyesight. i've worn corrective lenses since I was 9 and without them, i couldn't carry on a normal life. an estimated 75% of all Americans wear some form of corrective lenses. having normal eyesight is the exception to the rule. some design, huh?

the human espophagus is a terrible design.

flat feet.

acne.

hair loss. may not seem like a big deal now (aside from aesthetics) but if you lived somewhere really cold years ago, it would be a major problem.

the human species is riddledwith physical insufficiencies and most other species in our world make us look like genetic disasters.

do you honestly think Nature would have got it wrong??????

that's a poor argument.

would you like me to list for you the seemingly endless list of physiological things nature got wrong with our species?

Life / Television in Poland - embarrassingly bad? [44]

Why watch on tv, what I can easily see if I take a walk.

If you take a walk right now, you can see people fighting for food on a tropical island?

Will you see a bunch of Italian wannabe's getting wasted in clubs along the Jersey Shore?

I wanna know where YOU live!

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

but if it was "insanely hard" - why do Slavic language speakers find it ridiculously easy?

uhmmm.....because a lot of words sound the same? i mean, is that really your argument, dude?

i went on a tour of a castle in the Czech Republic once, half the tour group was Polish, and the tour guide spoke only in Czech. the Poles knew exactly what was going on as the woman spoke. hell, even I can watch 'Nova' and catch a lot of words and with subtitles, i get about 30-40%. Slovak is even closer to Polish than Czech.

if you don't like the word "insanely", let's just say really really really hard.

send me to France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy for 2 years, I'll walk out C1 easily. try doing the same in Poland.
