Even Ben-Gurion Thought 'Most Jews Are Thieves'

History / The history of Talmud and why idiots shouldn't read it [19]

I still question the need to read

You may not feel the need but some people do.

My holy book would be a single sentence: Treat others the way you want them to treat you.

Are you sure you always follow the only rule in your very short holy book? I'm quite sure there's another rule that could be added to it: "shoot people who want to come illegaly to your country". :)

History / The history of Talmud and why idiots shouldn't read it [19]

why would anyone sane want to read it?

For the same reason that people of other religions read historical books connected with various aspects of their particular confessions. Normal thing and nothing to get too excited about. Idiots, however, will read such books and some of them will even judge the entire confession or a nation based on what they (mis)read. Ah, well...

History / The history of Talmud and why idiots shouldn't read it [19]

Inspired by Crno's post in Random... polishforums.com/off-topic/random-chat-88343/4/#msg1962469

Talmud has been read in Poland, mostly by Polish Jewish community, for centuries and it is an important part of our history.

Contrary to popular belief Talmud is not a Jewish book of law. A lot of people get seriously agitated when they read in it statements about people who are "liable to the death penalty" for very minor offenses like, for example, Torah scholar having a dirty shirt...

"A Torah scholar on whose clothes a fat stain is found is liable to receive the death penalty" (Shabbat 114a)

... :)

Well, if there's a death penalty for that, then we shouldn't be surprised that the capital punishment is also named as proper for non-Jews studying Torah (although, on the very same page another rabbi says that a non-Jew studying Torah is similar to High Priest :D) or disrespecting one's parents. We are quite surprised, therefore, when we learn from history that no Jew or Gentile has ever been executed under Jewish law either for having a dirty t-shirt or telling his mum to f*ck off (although both should be frowned upon in any civilised country).

The reason for the lack of executions is that when Talmud was compiled, the death penalty was no longer in effect in Judaism for half a millennium! So, anyone with two or three brain cells understands that in most cases when Talmud speaks of "death penalty" it is an exaggeration made to stress a point (like in the example that I mentioned, the point that a Torah scholar should keep a neat appearance). It's like an Italian chef in a Great Book of Pizza (if any such book exists) saying: "Whoever puteth pineapple on pizza is liable to receive the death penalty!". Nobody would take that literally, right? :)

Anyways, contrary to the nonsense that Crno and other anti-semites on the Internet spout, Talmud is not "judaism's holiest book", rabbis don't "elevate it above Torah", and it is not a codex of penal law. It's also not scripture, in the sense that Jews, Muslims and Christians understand it. It is merely a book of various rabinical commentaries and opinions (often contradictory) about philosophy, law or biblical interpretation, and should be treated as such.

Hmm... hunter, cloud and saint.

I hoped it worked the way he intended.

For me there's nothing more relaxing than taking care of my tank and watching the fish. I regret not discovering this hobby earlier.

What kind of fish you got?

Golden mollies, guppies, neon innesa, Puntius titteya and Xiphophorus hellerii - together with a bunch of Corydoras Sterbai to clean the tank. :) Nothing too fancy, they're all pretty standard fish, suitable for a beginner like me. But I had a professional setting the tank up for me, putting in all the plants, rocks, wood, installing the external filter and nice lighting (with various special effects, storms and thunders etc.).

It's great fun :) It all started with my son wanting a fish-tank, so I got him a smaller one. Now we have five tanks altogether - the big one, the smaller one and three shrimp sets for shrimps and fry, including a big one that my daughter is responsible for, with blue velvet shrimps and Carinotetraodon travancoricus. I am like this guy who bought a toy train set for his kids. :D

The wife, kids, and I have been talking about getting a fish tank.

A brilliant idea, but I warn you: this stuff is seriosuly addictive.

you withdraw into depression and leave the forum for a few weeks

It is not depression that drives me away but:

1. boredom (after all those years I can predict with 99.99% accuracy exactly what most people here will say),
2. newly found hobby (a rather nice fish tank :)).

DFY, Russian ass licker. And your stalinist grandpas, too!

You're a grandpa yourself, Pawian. And "banderists' cox sucking grandpa" doesn't sound all that better than "stalinist grandpa". :)

He only intends to become a Russian sock puppet governor of Gdańsk region if imperial Russians occupy northern Poland.

If Russia invades, I will actually be fighting them as a reserve soldier. You, on the other hand, will keep drinking moonshine in your village and posting spiteful, vile words on PF.

Sure...

Hey, Poland also had a non-aggression pact with the III Reich (1934-39), and had Piłsudski been alive and in charge in 1939, the things might have gone a different (not necessarily better) way.

Besides, I meant what happened in March 1945 as the symbol, not the earlier lamentable events; but you always have to find quarrel in a straw, Paulina :-/

that may depend on your cousins' political views

Hardcore PO/Tusk supporter.

Still, he claims that PiS got the army matters right. May or may not be connected with his personal situation. I don't know, and I don't care - as I said, professional mercenaries don't win wars - we, humble reservists, do. :)

On this day in 1945...

On 28th March 1945 Red Army and People's Army of Poland entered Gdańsk. Soldiers put up Polish flag on Artus Court and it marked the return of Gdańsk to its maternal land after 152 years. The city was to be settled with Poles and its history once again immersed in the history of Rzeczpospolita. May this day be remembered by the coming generations as the symbol of common Polish-Russian struggle against nazism which even today raises its ugly head in certain places in Europe where nazi genocide perpetrators are celebrated as national heroes.

The celebrations in Gdańsk will start today at 11:50. Detailed program in the link below.

News / THE ARMY OF POLAND - THE REALITY [493]

I'd worry about the quality of instructors, etc. after 8 years of PiS rule, to be honest - PiS was messing with the army quite a lot...

I'm not too much interested in the professional army. As we know it's not the professionals but reservists who win wars :) However, my cousin, a major, has always been saying that the situation in the army was never as good as it was during PiS rule. He keeps saying that even now, with PiS already gone.

I support suicides under controlled conditions.

Then you are against God's law.

I wouldn't go this way if I were you. Hell is not a nice place to be (especially for eternity). There's still time to repent and turn away from sin.

You have been warned.

2. Suicide

Don't be an arsehole, Rich.

It's one thing to disagree with promoting genderism and another to suggest that confused people should commit suicide.

That's why conservatism without Christianity is so totally worthless; conservatism without love turns you into a hateful scumbag.

Samogitians (let's not confirm historical falsity by calling them Lithuanians) playing their dirty old tricks again.

to see how Poles are liars, just look at the lies in that guy's response.

*sighs*

Look, maybe you're being honest; maybe somehow - against all odds - you only met mountebanks and liars in Poland. Highly unlikely, but maybe you were just unlucky (very unlucky).

I don't like what you wrote. It sounds like trolling. However, because I am generally positively disposed towards foreigners in Poland, I shall give you a brilliant lifehack: in Poland you have to approach people in a humanly way (po ludzku). If you treat them po ludzku, like human beings, they will reciprocate also in a humanly way. If, on the other hand, you try to be a very important American, looking superciliously at them, you shall be f*cked in every British-American hole. That's just how it is. Życie.

P.S. But I would still like to know though how on earth did any university "take your money coming from abroad". That just doesn't make sense.

Many of these cars are rebuilt salvages from the US

Nonsense. There are very few US built vehicles in Poland (for obvious reasons).

Almost everything I ordered through Allegro was either broken or had a hidden flaw.

I've been on Allegro almost from the very beginning (for 21 years) and bought literally thousands various items there. I had problems in two cases, both of which were solved quickly by the seller.

Universities will rob you blind any chance they get to. If you have money coming from abroad they will keep part of it.

What? Please, tell us how universities will "keep part of your money coming from abroad"? How will they even have access to your money?

Overall, my experience in Poland is that they are almost all thieves and liars.

Overall, my experience with PolishForums is that various haters and trolls are allowed to roam free here, scaring away decent users.

The City of Kings

The first capital of Poland, Gniezno, stands proudly among forests and hills of Greater Poland Lake District. In the upper photo you see the view from the marketplace towards the Royal Gniezno Cathedral (full name: The Primatial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Shrine of St. Adalbert). If you ever find yourself in this ancient eagle's nest then, apart from the Cathedral, make sure to visit the Polish Origins Museum (Muzeum Początków Państwa Polskiego), the Royal Route (Trakt Królewski) and - last but not least - Dobry Browar (The Good Brewery). :)

Who is we? There were not we.

Unfortunately, there is legal continuity between PRL and the Holiest Republic, just as there is one between USSR and Russia, Third Reich and Bundesrepublik etc. etc. Hence, the use of "we" is justified, even if it weren't literally "we".

czerwone gitary

In August 1968 Poland made an embarassing mistake. We were supposed to send Red Guitars band on tour to Czechoslovakia, but someone made a mistake and we sent Red Berets instead. Some Czechs still haven't forgiven us this little misunderstanding.

It's half a century already!: 1974

In July this year it will have been 50 years since Grzegorz Lato became FIFA World Cup top goalscorer. Lato, who will be 74 in April, was a beast of a forward - fast, strong and aggressive, he could take on several opponents and dribble through them as if he were a senior player teasing U-15s. He might not have had Robert Lewandowski's killer instinct in front of the goal but he had the grit, he had the pace, and he had a much stronger team behind him to facilitate his success. He remains until today the only Polish player to win the top goalscorer World Cup crown.

News / Reactions in Poland to Alexei Navalny's death [128]

Have your eyes opened by now?

I knew what to expect from Tusk but it is Kosiniak-Kamysz and PSL in general that dissappoint me. They were supposed to be neither PiS nor PO - the voice of reason and common sense. Alas, they seem way too passive and complacent. And why on Earth is Kosiniak-Kamysz the defence minister? The guy knows nothing about the job.

Strange times...

What's the problemo?

what changed?

There's no problem. Nothing changed.

My point is that such high rank politicians as Tusk and Hołownia should refrain from making strong, condemning, emotional statements like they did, when they - in fact - had no certain information about the cause of Nawalny's death. It's a question of state-level credibility. Prime ministers and parliament speakers should attempt to keep at least tiny shards of credibility.

News / Reactions in Poland to Alexei Navalny's death [128]

Chief of Ukraine's military intelligence, Kyryło Budanow, says that according to his best information Alexei Navalny did indeed die of natural causes.

I wonder how Tusk and Hołownia (among others) feel at the moment after their emotional, girlie outbursts. I mean, Hołownia with his crying over constitution etc. has always been a bit of a half-wit, but Tusk should have known better.
