Maybe you misunderstand what "clericalism" is. Not that long ago I wrote a letter to a priest, an editor of one of Polish Catholic weeklies (Idziemy), to share with him my concerns about the things which I considered wrong in Polish Church. In his reply he agreed with most of my observations and said that in his opinion clericalism was one of the main causes of the Church's current problems.

Healthy anti-clericalism is not, as you probably think, hatred of priests and bishops but it is rather a disdain for pride, greed and abuse of power present in the current Catholic hierarchy and courage to oppose it passively or actively. Without healthy anticlericalism the Church would die or at least fall into serious decline which hopefully will never happen in our country.

Come on, BB - honestly: do you really not see the possibility (even if very distant) that Germany ruled by AfD would turn against Poland (perhaps in alliance with Russia)?

Even more moderate parties dealt with Russia over our heads very recently, so AfD is capable of much worse.

Są też tacy, którym marzy się odzyskanie "Ziem Utraconych". Pamiętasz panią Steinbach i jej wypowiedzi? :) A to przecież dama Bawarskiego Orderu Zasługi (Bayerischer Verdienstorden), była parlamentarzystka CDU, a od 2017 roku AfD. :) Złamanego grosza bym nie dał, że miśki z AfD - jeżeli kiedyś będą mieli władzę - nie wrócą do dziwnych pomysłów z sojuszami z Rosją kosztem Polski (to zresztą nie tylko AfD), Lebensraumami itp. Jak ktoś jest naiwny w życiu prywatnym, to jego prawo, ale na naiwność w polityce międzynarodowej nie ma miejsca. Albo obudzimy się znowu w 1939.

I suppose it depends what you mean by "enough" but all the rich (or at least well-off) people that I know invest to save their money from inflation. Interest rates on saving accounts are usually below inflation, so keeping your money just sitting in the bank seems like a bad idea (apart of course from an ample emergency fund).

Don't know about those NFL players but if you diversify your investments (index funds, precious metals, real estate) you should be fine. The worst thing is putting all you eggs into one basket or fall for some shady get-rich-quick schemes.

Nie wiadomo. Możemy sobie spekulować, ale wolnych wyborów już wtedy nie było.

Jak już napisałem wyżej, nie można wykluczyć objęcia władzy przez AfD, a jeżeli czegoś nie można wykluczyć, to należy być na to przygotowanym. W polityce nie ma miejsca na myślenie życzeniowe typu: "przyzwoici ludzie ich zablokują", "przyzwoita większość na to nie pozwoli" bla bla bla.

In general we don't build monuments to political murderers in Poland. We can appreciate the chain of events and the eventual outcome of the murder, but we don't usually honour the murderer.


Don't forget that in Kosowe Pole Polish knights fought side-by-side with Serbians. That is why, until this very day, Poles say that "Kosowo to Serbia". We have very good memories. Like elephants.

Let's see: first northern war (7-year war) - Russia was on the Swedish side, in the Inflanty war Russia didn't take part at all, then 1617-18 totally between Poland and Sweden, the next one 1625-26 without Russian participation, in the Vistula estuary war we were aided by Austria (but we had to pay half a million zlotys for it - a lot of money back then), in the VI Polish-Swedish war - the famous Deluge - Russia was actually on the Swedish side again. Hmm... you must be thinking about the III Northern War in which accidentally Poles and Russians were at the same side for some time. Nothing to build monuments for really.

Nope. Polish people go to elections and they elect whom they want: one time it's a Sarmat Kaczyński, another time it's a Kashub Tusk - depends on our mood. Poles go to Catholic churches, true, but you would be surprised how much healthy anti-clericalism there is in Polish society. We are the children of Slavija and Svetovid who worship Our Lord Jesus Christ on our own conditions he he :)

So you have to give up this "Germanic boo hoo, Vatican boo hoo" nonsense Crow. Poles rule in Poland because that's what God wants.

So, what is foreign rule in Slavic countries according to you:

situation A: Poles rule in Poland, Serbs in Serbia, Czechs in Czechia, Bulgars in Bulgaria etc.

or

situation B: Russia rules in Poland, Serbia, Czechia, Bulgaria etc. (directly or indirectly)

Something tells me that you prefer situation B, but to me situation B is exactly what looks like a foreign rule. I am a huge Russophile (and a friend of Serbia) but I think every Slavic nation should rule itself in brotherhood with others but without dominance of any one over others (apart, of course, from honorary dominance of Poland as the historical and moral centre of Slavija).

Such conflict is very unlikely as Russia doesn't have equipment advanced enough to locate Serbia on the map. After the sanctions were introduced, the production of microscopes in Russia plummeted.

Oczywiście. Przyzwoitych Niemców zawsze było więcej. W 1939 też przyzwoici byli większością. Niestety, problem z przyzwoitymi Niemcami polega na tym, że jak przyzwoity Niemiec dostanie rozkaz od nieprzyzwoitego Niemca, to on ten rozkaz wykona, pomimo całej jego przyzwoitości (a nieprzyzwoitości rozkazu).

I don't agree with your assessment of Russia. It is a country of huge potential, partly wasted of course, that haven't said their last word yet, and their accomplishments - all things considered - in science, engineering or medicine are quite impressive. We are talking about a nation of space conquerors, literary geniuses and brave explorers, people who tamed the wilderness of Siberia, cross the Arctic daily in nuclear ice-breakers and possess the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Surely, you must concede that their achievements almost match ours. Almost.

Modified, shmodified. The idea of Poland being the Christ of nations, suffering innocently for others but at least possessing the Truth (with capital T), was the core element of Polish romanticism and has, since then, been the very core of Polish collective psyche. Pawian is being 100% Polish in referring to this noble ideal. Is it similar to certain elements of Russian collective psyche? Well, it very well might be; they are our blood brothers, more so than either you or Pawian are willing to admit, so it's no surprise for me.

OK, I know that you will eventually make the right decision to switch to XenForo (or vBulletin) but you need time. We, Poles, are a stubborn bunch and we are not so easily persuaded. BB - do you see any issues with PF now? I see no reason to switch unless we have 1K extra just to "try," but currently we have -1K..

Therefore, already thinking about the great software update and the throngs of new members that it will attract, I am going back to my old username. People these days are not history buffs, the world has already forgotten about Good Kaiser Franz and Austro-Hungary, so when they see "Gefreiter" they will think that I am some sort of a nazi.
