Language / Short Polish<->English translations [1050]

pączki are basically jelly donuts... how are they orange?

British donuts are orange-browne - Polish are most often brown

to me it would sound better without 'moja',

- in this sentence moja królowo fits MUCH better

Genealogy / Am I of Polish or German descent? [10]

Prussians are very well Germans

well - the majority of the inhabitants of West Prussia were Slavic either Kashubs or Poles (to be more strict Kociewiacy) and they spoke Slavic at home even if influence by German to smaller or bigger degree - there were also plenty of people in East Prussia (up to the time of Hitler) who spoke a dialect of Polish (Mazurzy etc) - all of them of course knew German because they were taught it at school

as for German citizenship many people in the Opole region and vicinity have German passports (or at least a status called Deutsche Staatsangehoerigkeit)- they claimed it on the basis that their ancestors were citizens of Germany at some point - so I guess it's possible for you to obtain German passport - you would have to find documents supporting your claim in German or Polish archive (one of my uncles received it back in the early 1990's - there is caveat here the law could have changed since then that I am not aware of)

History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

Viktor Suvorov

Victor Suvorov had access to written sources no western historian would ever dream of -even if he wasn't a historian by education - you Russophile - later he just connected the dots

Do you think historians should be restricted in what they can say about dead people?

I'll answer you with an example - what if after you die somebody prints somewhere that you raped little children - would your children be happy with it

still didn't answer me what you think about 500+ for rich people :) What do you think about it?

I have multiple people to reply to in at least two threads now, so please excuse me - what I think of 500+ for rich people - I don't know maybe it's some malicious twist to silence those who oppose it - maybe the law would be deemed unconstitutional by the opposition if it didn't cover every child - how do i know

We live here and now. PiS is screwing up now -

PiS is exactly screwing up now what? and when you look in the past you see what kind of challenges PiS faced/faces - corrupt ministerial clerks, corrupt judges, corrupt special services - or as Mr Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz once remarked - państwo teoretyczne czyli ch... du.. i kamieni kupa

Where is that "good change"

the good change is in the economy (at least before the pandemy) thanks to wallets of millions of once deprived Poles

lol cd projekt red is a joke.

you are a joke indeed - CD Projekt Red hit most of the nails on their heads with vastly popular Witcher - I haven't seen Cyberpunk - I only heard it is (was) a flop because of bugs aplenty - if you want to try and belittle everything polish wholesay because of some bad luck here please go on - but i mostly happily ignore what you expound on here

something bad

you know what - my guess is the witness who claimed that Malinowski helped to kill other Jews never actually witnessed it as the e-siemiatycze link makes me think

show me an example of something you call

I don't go around the web in searching for beautiful graphics to be honest - can't be arsed to do it now because you ask - all I know is I have seen really beautiful graphics in my time

and again you asked for an opinion - if you can't take criticism don't boast

PiS - they can't be trusted. And it's based on experience.

yes - all beneficiaries of 500+ know that PiS can't be trusted

everybody knows that PO, PSL and especially SLD - they can all be trusted: "Pieniędzy nie ma i nie będzie'. 'Nasi eksperci mówią że epidemia minie do września. (września 2020- przypis mój :P) - dlatego nie można przeprowadzić wyborów w maju , no bo te śmiercionośne koperty. 'Nadam ulicy miano Lecha Kaczyńskiego w Warszawie' 'Tablet dla każdego ucznia', 'Znaleźliśmy katarskiego inwestora dla stoczni' etc etc

History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

@jon357

so ok - i read the Deutche Welle link - and it states that one of the survivors who was helped by Edward Malinowski claims that he was instrumental in the deaths of several dozens of other Jews - how do you reconcile this? - there were other Jews who survived the war thanks to Malinowski as the 1949 (or 1950) trial found - how do you reconcile this

It's all in the links

I read this link you posted just now -esiemiatycze.pl/artykul/dziadkowice-ydom-zamordowanych-w-okolicy-malinowa/398174 and it is exactly the Edward Malinowski whom the libel case involved who explained that it was some other Pole who denounced hiding Jews - read carefully - there are no testimonies against Edward Malinowski in the article - maybe your Polish skills need a little honing Jon

Have you been following the thread that you're pathetically trying to derail?

I have just read the thread through and I never found anybody mention testimonies that contradict those given in the 1949 trial of Malinowski - if you have just quote it

eyewitness's testimony should have been censored

I haven't seen any of the kind you keep on mentioning - please quote it

but well you always hated PiS

this remark was not meant for you but for delphi

the government on their sites for one day

they want to create an impression that private media in Poland are stiffled - which I explained is a manipulation - which means they are agressively attacking PiS

maybe you weren't in Poland at that time yet delphi but here's a nice glimpse on Poland under SLD rule - SLD is just another arm of the same octopus: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afera_starachowicka

This whole tax is political (anti-non state media) and zwyczajne zdzierstwo too.

the media can happily add the tax to their prices - sure the higher cost of advertising would influence consumer prices a bit that's all - instead they have thrown a tantrum - if this is not political what is - you swallowed it as an attack on the media (as probably millions of others) - I see their move as an attack - and the tax as just another tax

Do you think the eyewitness's testimony should have been censored because it reflects badly on someone?

please quote it - how do i know there are any testimonies to support your claim

Nowa-oplata-na-rachunkach-za-prad-Znamy-stawki-8011301.html

wysokienapiecie.pl/34168-ceny-pradu-rosna-przez-oplate-mocowa-ale-nie-koniec-podwyzek/ - read this - opłata mocowa is not a whim of PiS it is there to give Polish energetic system more safety - also the electricity prices in Poland are still lower than the EU average (last I checked Germans pay almost 50 per cent more than us)

once again - seriously read this article (I doubt you ready any of the articles I posted but well..) - tvp.info/43539295/kierunkowano-nas-na-sciganie-legalnych-podmiotow-a-tymczasem-rozwijaly-sie-mafie

if you don't infer from the article that the PO, PSL and others from the so called total opposition are crooks then I don't know what could change your mind

And remember, an eyewitness more recently gave an interview that contradicted that.

the court has spoken - I don't even get when you get all those new and recent testimonies - if there where any the court would pass a different verdict

We do. The costs will simply be passed on.

of course I understand - I also understand the mechanism by which PiS aims to lessen the burden of the social spending - and I understand why Trzaskowski said: 'Nic co zostało dane, nie zostanie zabrane' (Nothing that was given will be taken away (as for the social spending under PiS) - I just don't find the prospect of PO, PSL or SLD getting power back appealing - imagine big social spending and a renewed VAT fraud, fuel smuggling and a monopoly on media

so yeah - this whole current action is purely political and the argument that PiS wants to shut down hostile media is manipulative - but I guess Paulina would not understand

the fees by another 20-25zł a month to cover the increased electricity costs.

thank the EU CO2 quotas for that - and the PO government who agreed on the new system of counting the quotas or some such (basically Poland first agreed to be eligible to pay excessive CO2 starting from 1990 or 1989 and Tusk agreed to change that to the detriment of Poland (and to give him a boost to his career in Europe)

so why instead of burdening private media with another tax

they can happily add this new tax to the prices of their add time/space which will doublethe positively effect on the budget - the whole action is simply political (and anti-PiS)
