If you don't want to think about it..it kind of makes you morally bankrupt.

I am.not a " moral.outcast" thank.you. you have no idea where my predecessors came from..
Not saying " we" when talking about history was lesson one in O level history. That's teenaged school stuff. But then I had a good teacher.

Although yes it's true that stuff like the transatlantic slave trade should be looked at more closely, that wasn't the point I was making.

OK fair enough...
But still "we" sounds a bit silly.
I would never say it about something the UK.government did. I wasn't there and I wasn't in government....and saying "we" sounds like you are allying yourself with whatever crappie thing they did. Like a football team or something.

Well I don't know....but " we" does sound a bit ...silly tbh.
Did the normal German people really have any choice at that time?

What I like about you BB is you can discuss stuff like this without hurling insults.

Happy Christmas to our German cousins! I remember Christmas in Germany as a child very fondly.

Bratwurst Boy ....please don't say " we". You had nothing to do with it.

Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament here in the UK were also left standing. I don't think they have a magic stone, just that they were wanted for later. Like Krakow. Amazing accuracy really.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1400]

Why is Pavz being so spiteful about Britain?.

I have this Polish sister in law who has spent the last 25 years in London. When she is not complaining about how 'shed' everything is, she admits she would miss all the delicious London food if she went back to Poland.....

News / TVP producer fired for allowing rainbow flag on the air... [244]

Yes avoid their vocabulary at all.costs.

Here in the UK we are also infected with this nonsense.

A woman was told that she couldn't have been raped on a hospital ward, as she alleged, as "there were no men there "...

Of course when you are bleating that 'transwonen are women' constantly you might cone to believe this sick nonsense. 😫

Classifieds / Kebab business [36]

Yes we do like a good Turkish or Greek kebab.

Or other cuisine. Today I had Ethiopian...:)

You said that your favourite food is plain boiled mince and overdone pasta with green peppers dumped into a bucket....which you probably stick your head into and slurp it up.

Enjoy...lol

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [243]

maybe spend some more time with your half sister she might remember a tiny thing ...

there are plenty of Brits here. You might contact the Polish Cultural Centre i think its in Kensington or Hammersmith.

they would at least know about this kind of thing, where to look, and maybe have more time for it than embassy staff who are really only there to represent their living citizens.

Life / Why Polish singers are not popular abroad? [95]

good to see you too.

Yes she has that movie/music transatlantic twang, but slips in and out of other ways of speaking.
If i was asked to guess without knowing she was Polish, i would have guessed French living in London or New York for a long time or something like that.

or maybe one of those nomadic international kids that go to Swiss boarding schools or little tutorial colleges in London.

OK i watched the interview video and she has excellent second language English..also of course her father would know English being from Nigeria so she could have picked up a lot form him as well as movies and so on as she says herself.

anyone who says she has no trace of an accent just isn't listening.

she is a musician that is why her English is so good. she listens.

hey Atch how are you? Long time!

well then she is perfectly bilingual - as you say there are levels of it.

when i was reading about this stuff i came across some idea that just a few 'get by' words in another language makes you 'bilingual'!! i dont think so!. It seems very subjective.

Anyway the people who are commenting about the way this girl speaks probably dont even hear nuance in accent they are too busy foaming with rage. or something.

'she speak with no Polish accent' - it's called being "bilingual"

why are old men so sour and rude about her?

ffs i just looked her up. Simon Cowell himself pressed the golden buzzer to bring her to the finals. It wasnt Walliams having a laugh.

Cowell has been producing successful singers and groups for his entire working life . he knows what is good and what is not.

being a sour rude old troll upset because a young woman of colour is (a). Polish and (b). successful just makes you look pitiable.

and she doesnt have 'dreadlocks' her hair is braided

just to make everyone extra happy here is a 'Polish Plait' from the `17th century

Looks like she might be more white than black lol

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [243]

ok so you can work on that last known address and other crumbs of information.
I have also done this for a mysterious grandparent.
Once you have looked at a few documents and checked ancestry for births, deaths, marriages you will have some names that you can take to facebook.

possibly with a leap of logic and some guesswork.
my brother and i found all kinds of living relatives right there on facebook! with their profiles wide open. Its amazing... you can google peoples names, and photos of them dancing the can can come up I swear.

i can look at records held by companies house and find out all sorts of stuff, addresses, names all kinds...
you have to become your own private detective.

good luck , didnt mean to sound so rude xx

who is Wozzy? what are you on about?

you look on ancestry.com and get a copy of his death cert, for a start. that will tell you all kinds of stuff, residence at time of death, place of birth etc.
