News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

I know you're not in Poland and don't understand a damn thing about this country

He does, but you? Look, a Scottish 'English teacher' just out of school with two years in the country like you is just not a person to understand much about this country. You seem a little obssessed with dispensing your opinions based on leftist news sources though. You are like a tourist who went to Kenya for two weeks and now is the expert on Kenya...in his neighborhood back home.

You are able to say idiotic things like this about the original cockpit voice recorder which the Polish side has not received yet and it looks like MAK is not going to release it soon. We received a digital copy so far. A digital copy.

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [173]

Girls, you've lost touch with today's reality. Type in "Prezenty dla nauczycieli," read what goes on today, and then tell us about teacher appreciation.

Tutor gets as a gift dinner-set or tea-set or something like it when his class finishes school.

This prepares the children to appreciate judges, prosecutors, and other government officials later in life. Wonder if children buy gifts for teachers in countries where corruption in very low as opposed to our country.

I would say flowers are fine and a sincere thank you would be sufficient. If you read some of the stories of greedy teachers requesting 'gifts,' you might change your mind. Not all teachers are as dedicated as your girl. Now, some teachers spend extra time with slower kids and take no money for it, this is rare. The parents could buy them a gift then. Many more do charge.

What kind of gifts does she get? A rug or an iron, I suppose?

Shoemakers do not influence a childs life in quite the same way a teacher does , they have a huge responsibility to turn out well educated and decent kids , and help shape a kids future as much as a parent does..

Have you ever given your parents a gift for raising you?

This practice should be discouraged.

In the past, lower classes gave presents to the educated classes - lawyers, doctors, teachers, priests, etc. for basically their services in addition to paying for them. Many think today that is good manners. Still lower class mentality. I don't think teachers buy gifts for their barber or shoemaker.

Life / What is the best city in Poland to live in? Relocating to Poznan? [41]

That's what my two friends considering themselves 'true warsawians' tell me... They really live there for generations and are very nice.

Right, Eurola. The bad rap Varsovians get is mainly from those "Varsovians" with hay still sticking out from their shoes. The influx into the city has been detrimental to culture in general for decades, although the communists were very fond of rude and primitive people and very against intelligensia. Social advancement takes a few generations, so a hick from Mazury living in Warsaw passes for a Varsovian till he opens his mouth or has to let a lady by.

Peter Olsztyn, ever wonder why Mazurians can't come to realize that if you charge 2 zl. for every pee in the summer at the lake district, you will have a stinky, filthy region after a while. I like Olsztyn, don't get me wrong.

Law / Last Will and Testament - should items go to a Polish or EU person? [24]

It really does not matter that a parent leaves everything to a dog's home, the family have a right to that estate.

That was exactly my point. I know this is not the case in the U.S. , but it is in France also, for an example. Nationality has nothing to do; blood relation does.

Life / I saw Polish nationalism today [263]

Today I went with my wife for a walk in Warsaw Old Town.

I saw Polish nationalism today

No, you were late. The main National ceremonies were earlier and on Plac Piłsudskiego. You went to see some sensation so you can run home and post some lies here.

Anyway, so-called Polish patriots are often the ones dodging taxes

lol

Can easily become a two man mission.

My favorite anti-Polish paper, Delphi's too:

Leftists call everyone nazis, fascists, racists, and antisemites. Exactly like the communists of yesteryear. Same slogans. Wyborcza inspired and organized.

Life / Best Polish actor/actress ever? [35]

She has that regal look though, and who cares about European history in Hollywood anyway.

Danuta Stenka is one of my favorites. A class act.

Lee Lee Sobieski is somewhat Polish... and she is from THAT Sobieski family.

I doubt she is from THAT Sobieski, but...

Sobieski grew up in a "pan-religious" family; she has said that she is "proud of [her] Jewish roots".

I know that King Sobieski was not Jewish, and she would have reason to be proud of such lineage if it were true. Being proud of being Jewish in Hollywood makes sense though.

I'm very happy that in Hollywood they give him chance to play in Salt.

Why are you happy? Hollywood is mostly known for trashy productions. It has hardly anything to do with art. Was there a chase and a shootout in Salt? I haven't seen it.

News / Polish Lithuanian Diplomatic War? At last. [533]

It means with Lithuanian characters. BTW, private bus lines are fined for puting up Polish signs under the Lithuanian ones.

I think they are making a serious mistake. Like Ukraine, they will be absorbed into the Russian camp. Maybe they miss it.

Likewise in most of Europe - the unique letters simply aren't recognised.

This says that Lithuanian minority in Poland can write their names in Lithuanian on official Polish documents:

Litewscy Polacy domagają się jednak, gwarancji praw w kwestii pisowni nazwisk, takich jakie ma litewska mniejszość w Polsce, która już od kilku lat ma możliwość zapisywania litewskich nazwisk po litewsku w polskich dokumentach.

The Poles have asked to reciprocate. You think this is too much?

Nice try, but as usual, you like only those itsy-bitsy fragments of reality that help you spit at Poles.

He will now try to entangle you in illogical arguments that will end in Bereza. He will think he has won the argument when you walk away in disgust.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

We should start another thread about Plastic Scottish

We should not. We have nothing against them and it would be some collective punishment because one Scot is a jerk. Me no play that game.

Food / Taste of food in Poland vs other countries [186]

In your dreams, honey. No beef tastes better than texas steak.

You will not find many beef varieties in Poland so no, our beef is not great. Texas? Pumped full of hormons, I suppose. But the Texas Charolais can be good.
