Work / Black English Teacher going to Wroclaw [247]

Things take time and you can't force change,

Lax immigration laws force change, its not like the indiginous Brits had a choice.

20 years ago in the UK,if a black woman/man and white woman/man, where walking down the street, hand in hand, it would turn heads

No it didnt, there are plenty of mixed raced kids in there 20s...maybe had you said 50 years ago..I might have agreed.

Maybe he's looking for opinions other than that of his wife and her family.

Love / Indian citizen wants to marry Polish Girl and get settled there. [107]

And you already forgot how Indian people suffered under Brits?Ofc,it is because you are English now.

She's half Indian which would make her half English if in fact her mother is English..By virtue of being born in England does not make someone English (not having a go at Atosha, just pointing out a fact)..As for what we owe India, we owe them nothing, please look up the word "Independence" they gained this decades ago.

They stay here, live here and enjoy here with out any interference or any racism.

Really? Thats why you have a caste called the "untouchables"...

The fact is the doors are being closed on them in the UK. They are being priced out of university courses, and the numbers of skilled persons visa's have been slashed.

Please dont believe the hype - tier 1 / 4 visas are still readily available so are spousal / dependant visas..As for universities, most come and study micky mouse courses that they can pay for with the money they earn whilst working here (you think they stick to the 10 hours allowed?)..

Friends please tell me the best way to enter in Poland with out any problem.

Apply for a visa, there is a Polish consulate in Mubia and in New Delhi...google is your friend!

polishconsulate.com/about.html

And stop saying English people are racist

A lot are and so are Indians..

Yea but only because you don't want to let him to England so he has to marry Polish broad first and then go to UK.

He doesnt actually want to come to England, he wants to set up home in Poland and have lots of kids and invite his family over to live :D

Life / The Polish Dream - move out from Poland as fast as possible [73]

it does not create opportunities for young people...

We have an office in Warsaw, they have a graduate programme, I dont imagine they are the only company that do that kind of thing, so maybe people have to create opportunities for themselves, there are plenty of Poles that are doing just fine in Poland.

him to move out from Poland as fast as possible and that he didn't want to waste his time in Poland.

Instead he can waste his money and his time looking for work in the UK..Maybe direct him to some web pages explaining that the UK is going through its worst recession, possibly ever!

I blame the americans....

You just have to blame someone David! Have you ever heard of accountability?

Language / Polish slang phrases - most popular. [606]

The English bobbies once had copper-coloured (brass) buttons on their uniforms, hence the term copper. Or at least that's what one urban legend claims.

Isnt it strange as an English person I have never heard your version...But...

Cop or Copper
While commonly believed to be an acronym for Constable On Patrol, the term refers to "one who captures or snatches". This word first appeared in the early 18th century, and can be matched with the word "cap", which has the same meaning and whose etymology can be traced to the Latin word 'capere'. (The word retains this meaning in other contexts: teenagers "cop a feel" on a date, and they have also been known to "cop an attitude".)

But, I can see where you got your version from:

Variation: Copper. It is also believed that the term Copper was the original, unshortened word, popularly believed to represent the copper badges American officers used to wear at the time of origin, but in fact probably used in Britain to mean "someone who cops" long before this.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

We know you are a decent person Amathyst, lighten up

And you showed you have no class because it took you several lines of insults to come to this? Am I supposed to be grateful because some random newbie thinks Im okay? Thats funny :D

my Krav Maga and Muay Thai courses are going well. It's pretty popular over here, people beat the bejesus out of each other, and sometimes people die

I did Judo to blue belt - my fathers choice that I get some skills in this department, plus my uncle taught at the time...so from the age of 9 I was a ninja :) or not quite, but I had self-defence skills..which my brothers didnt hmmm :D

Pfft, there's Zizkov, the rest of Prague...yea, pfft!

Actually my fav bar is on the castle side, just up a little side street, there's a church at the end of the road..my name must be on the walls a million times in there!

Well, of course.. look who they're about to rub noses with..

Moi! :D Obviously I was always too knakcered after slaving away doing the cooking and cleaning and the extra naggin...Its the extra naggin that does it ya know!

I can do what I want get used to it...

Orrr....I was waiting for the "its my party and I'll cry if I want to" line! You're such a girl arent you?

In this case, was a screamer...

Then he should have screamed back, shock tactics are proven to work.

Above the law to defend your life? Would you suggest just sitting back and seeing what the insane screaming man waving the knife and gun wanted?

In all my life Ive never been in that situation, but Ive been careful where I go...I lived in a not so nice area and didnt go out after dark, where I live now I can go where ever I want when ever I want..

Can't deny, lots of private ownership in the Czech Republic, and quite a few of us carry. In fact, next time you're in town, let me know, we can go to Kladno and "pop off a few rounds"...

Rather a beer at U Vejvodů (its almost my local) but I wont eat those pretzels, I swear they've been there for as long as Ive been going in! (the same ones!)...

Personally, I enjoy emptying my clip anytime of day. But alas, it's difficult to go to sleep all worked up.

Personally Im not gonna tell you what I prefer ;0)

Yea, but he came in screaming...

Oh pleezzze...Europeans are (or at least the English) more reserved...We dont come at people screaming..God for bid we should we'd be so undignified whilst commiting such heinious acts, we're more sneakers than screamers...We leave dramics for the stage "darling"

I would shoot you in Prague if you threatened me or anyone around you, as would plenty of Czechs.

Because of the tooth fairy? Thats a bit drastic..now do you see what I mean about gun owership? People feel they are slightly more enpowered and above the law than they should be...By the way what are you ideas on the tooth fairy? Real, not real?

Not many Americans own guns in CZ, I don't know of any that do, and I know a bunch of 'mericans.

Thank goodness for small mercies! About the gun ownership, not the amount of Yanks in my fav country :(

There are lots of us walking around armed, seriously, I'm not making this up!

Then you are just adding to the problem

ah, wilt, wilt, wilt... It's getting close to bedtime..

That's strange all men Ive dated get more exited the closer it gets to bed time!

Crazy guy walks in with a gun and knife, stabs a guy to death. I wouldn't have had a problem in that situation...just saying.

Crazy guy stabs you in the back or shoots you in the back..you have no chance...or just make that "random" move as you look on and you are not expecting..you have no chance...

Heh, just because you didn't see them, doesn't meant they don't exist.

I have the same argument year after year with my brothers about the tooth fairy, if they tell me one more time it was my parents putting cash under my pillow I may just try and get a gun!

I have a copy of Dnes here with an estimate that 5% of Czechs, man woman and child, carry on a daily basis

5% too many if you ask me, but I did note that there are a lot of Americans living in CZ these days..are they counted if they are classed as citizens..Im not accusing, just asking?

I carry every once in a while when I'm there (

Why? Ive been visiting for over 10 years and never felt threatened but I might now knowing you're walking about armed!

Shall we bring this bit back to the gun control thread?

Nah...You know that your hardon will wilt if we do :D

Limeys on the right

News / Polish in vitro treatment fully refundable - bonkers! [62]

Personally I have no theoretical problem with in vitro but I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to make taxpayers pay for it.

Its an investment, that baby thats created will be a tax payer, (this sounds awful but phuck it) that person with cancer will die and will have had 1,000s spent on him with no return..

Im all for invetro, life is cruel and if there is medical science out there that can give a childless couple what they dream and long for then it should be available..

Rather have a ****** kid.

Oh dear, epic fail..

Why do people come on here and tell the world and his wife about their lives? For some strange kooky reason I dont feel the need to tell the forum when I have my period or when Im due a smear test, somethings are just too personal.

Why doesnt the OP just go back to India for his op, but I wouldnt imagine its that popular there judging by the size of the population! So he might have a hard time finding a surgeon!

UK, Ireland / Corned beef & Cabbage are typically Irish? [98]

We, the poor Irish are being stereotyped again

The worst Ive ever seen!

The English are thought of as consuming vast quantities of tea & crumpets, although the latter are a seasonal thing. Scones would be more typical, innit?

Crumpets are more for breakfast and scones are for afternoon tea - both can be taken any time of the year...Where did you hear it was a seasonal thing?

as is kedgeree.

Thats typically a British thing, it comes from India.

it is widely believed that corned beef & cabbage are the archtypcial Irish dish

? WTF!

I could understand if you said Irish stew or spiced beef, but corned beef & cabbage?

Travel / My visit to Poland - Likes & Dislikes. [137]

As already stated here its generally best to get a few words under your belt before you travel anywhere if you intend to use public transport or to actually explore your surroundings and not just sit in the local bar getting smashed all day...

Ive been going to the Czech Republic for over 10 years and I have tavelled a bit round Western Bohemia, I've used all modes of public transport and eaten in every kind of establishment and never had a problem, simply because I can open my mouth and ask for a train ticket or a bus ticket or work out what the dishes are on the menu and if a problem arrises, a lot of gesticulating generally helps..

I honestly dont get what all the fuss is about, as Ive already said, travelling to another country with a different lauguage is a wonderful experience, if people made the effort before stepping off that plane then they'd enjoy it a whole lot more..I understand English is a popular lanauge, but we have to realise there are plenty out there that dont speak it and why the hell should they?

Now for my point on tourism, Krakow is geared up for it, English speaking guides and menus in English...bar staff that speak English...I had to go to a pharmacy whilst I was there and managed to get what I need even though the lady didnt speak English...I dont think Poland has to turn into some shyty tourist trap with guides who have fake American accents (I heard one in CZ a couple of years ago and decided not to take her tour, it would have been too painful!)..What they have IMO works already..Or at least it does for the Brits ;0)

are not patient or understanding and rude or dont know English.

Pots and Kettles sweetie pie..Learn to write and speak your own langauge properly before criticizing others.

Well Ive been 3 times and loved it..Apart from a few miserable shop assistants and a lazy bar staff I couldnt really say anything negative.

Did you like Greece?

How could any one not..good weather, the best food ever and happy smiling people :D

It's hard staying in a place when you don't know the language. If very few people speak your language.

Its not hard, its all part of the experience of travelling, if I wanted to hear English everywhere I'd go Margate for my holidays ;0)

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

hate collin he has such a misiowata face

LOL..You are too funny..

. Btw you know who's his girlfriend?

Yes, she Polish, she's also very pretty...

I like when a man have proportional body built not steroid muscles.

Some men are just naturally blessed - he looks like he works out (which is no bad thing)..it wasnt his body that I wasnt keen on, it was his face..but as I said..what one likes..doesnt naturally mean another likes..For ME, Irish men win hands down - Im English by the way so Im saying this as a preference not out of wierd patriotic reason...

My advice, go to Ireland spend a weekend there and come back and please tell me that you dont find the men there good looking..

jessica alba

She is naturally beautiful.

oh I don't like them both. In Poland we call such types "karki". Too much muscles.

I prefer my men to look like men and not built like women.

But I dare you to say you dont like this chap!

Having been Ireland I have to say it has the most attractive men than any other country Ive been too...Pure Irish..and heavenly.

As I said. Maybe u don't get it. I can judge however I want. Every person has his own taste. That was what I was talking about.

No, I dont think you got me..Munters should keep their mouths shut...

Please, why did u put those two pics of VIP mouses(they really do look like those animals) here. Nothing nicer looking in UK?
Again. That is my PERSONAL OPINION (but probably also objectively...).

Neither are considered "mouses"

There are plenty of good looking women in the UK..But no matter what Eng, Scot, Welsh female I post, they'll be called low grade by you.

I don't feel superior. Why do u have that impression? Ever heard that people have subjective sense of beauty - besides "scientific" standards?

But you must be since you judged all those people on their looks..Surely to make such comments you must be much better looking than they are? If you're not, better to keep quiet.

Btw, UK people are not known for being beautiful. ;-)

There are plenty of beauties in the UK..If people chose to go along the stereotype that we're all fat and dont dress nicely then..that's up to them..

Care to share your photo with the forum so we can make some judgements on you? Since you feel that you are so superior in looks you can judge others?

Prozac???

Went in there a few times but I was more on about that bar that sells the huge beers..more a bar than club to be honest..But my point was there are plenty of places not "just off" the main square that are toursty and are just fine..

They are quite touristic now like. though still retain their charm :)

I found the food round there so much superior (back in 2006) .The nicest little place was just on a little square...very light interior, very simple...but the food was...I have to say..(much as it pains me) better than anything Ive ever had in England and Ive eaten in some exclusive restaurants (obviously work have been paying at the time :D )...I had a card but must have chucked it..

Oh I miss my lazy Sunday afternoons sipping a pint on Plac Nowy :(

Your time will come again sweetie pie :D

A touristic bar in a cellar away from the main Rynek?

There are plenty of bars that are "touristic" that are away from the main Rynek in Krakow...There's a great bar at the end of Grodzka which is a good 5 mins walk..had no problems...A few bars along the bottom of Florianska...again no problems..So I dont get your point..There are some brilliant bars in the Jewish district which is a considerable way from the main Rynek..but again no problems..

Life / Famous / Iconic Polish Women [48]

I remember I wrote an essay about the Pankhursts and was interested in this topic :)

She came from my city, in a town not far from where I live, so she is uber important to me..(and to every women in Britain)...Ive read so much about her and her sisters and her daughers..quite a woman..

This thread is about Polish famous/iconic women, not British ones...

I know, I was just giving an example of what I was looking for (if you read my caption I thought I made this clear, sorry if I didnt), film stars are one thing but women who have done something to actually "contribute" is another..

Life / Famous / Iconic Polish Women [48]

I would say that actress Krystyna Janda is both famous and iconic in a way (in Poland):

How about women like this: (sorry to be picky)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Nightingale

or about the fact Poland got the womens vote in 1918 which was ahead of a fair few of the so called advanced countries in the "west" but hardly anything is published about their fight for the vote, certainly not in English....(Britain had a 2 stage which actually 3 stage!)..typical of the class system in place at the time.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_suffrage_in_the_United_Kingdom
