Actually no language test for citizenship by decent. TVN24 is not the topic of discussion, and you are too smart to even suggest that the US wont slap Poland around if this license cancelation actually happens. PiS will back down, they will find an exception, or they will feel what it is like to be a red headed step child that just burnt down the house. Poland is the rebellious child screaming for attention and acting out, and now the United States (daddy) noticed and its time for a spanking. Birth rates are continuing to trend down across the country. Since you haven't been to these areas recently, I see a whole lot more new babies in the cities than in the countryside in my daily travels.

I vote for the lesser evil in elections. I never have been a "party" person. Towing the "party line" is for sheep. I voted for Bill Clinton because he had real plans for the economy. I voted for Bush because I felt he was better for the safety of the country. Those Presidents had real plans, and real smart advisers around them. Neither fell into the far left or right in policy. In Poland, the same is not true. It is extreme left or right, and they divide the country like Trump and Biden. The difference in Poland is that the PiS demographic is shrinking not only in number due to death, but due to massive numbers of people leaving the church. They have even admitted as much on TVPiS.

Not a whole lot of news now about TV licensing. But the US has banned some high profile Hungarian political officials from entering the US in the last few weeks in order to show Orban who is in charge. Message being sent to Poland? Imagine what happens to PiS if the US pulls the Visa waiver for Poles?

You make some good points here. Numbers for the elections are a very good thing regardless of which side wins. Active participation in democracy is a great thing.

That said, PiS themselves have admitted that their wheelhouse is in the poor, under educated, and religious fanatics.

What is interesting is that it is the core of PiS voters in those demographics who are either refusing or slow to get vaccinated. It is those demographics experiencing the most deaths when you look at the mortalities and where they are coming from.

Now though, PiS will slowly back away from this attempt to kill off the license from TVN. The US has made it clear that additional investment will not be coming to Poland should this policy be put in place. This is not the only item PiS is caving on lately. Big tough politicians basically getting bi7ch slapped when it it comes time to really fight for something. All bark and no bite unless it is against their own citizens.

Poland buys these tanks from the US because they need them, they cant build them here. They buy them because it gives them a false sense of security with Russia when in practicality it would take Russia just a few weeks to role over Poland. If not for the US, Poland is counting on who for protection? Germany?

All this said, they are backing off the law because part of the PiS group wont support the law, some people at least know they should not make these changes. Picking a fight you cant win is simply not smart. People who are not smart should not be in positions of authority. It will be interesting when elections come around again.

Really Iron, in USA people were laughing at Duda openly over the way he acted with Trump. He was like a little girl with a crush, practically falling all over Trump. It was embarrassing and unbecoming of a President.

The US is not in need of Poland. Your views on that are really twisted. Poland could sink back into Russia's arms and the USA would simply relocate its military back to Germany. What does the US "need" from Poland? Pottery? Kielbasa? Because there are no large resource exports that the US needs from Poland that it can not get someplace else.

Poland's politicians, on all sides, are immature politically. They think "ideals" are going to get things done. Its funny to watch. Poland will be better off when young people are running the country, not dinosaurs.

Taxes can be raised, and wealthy people usually do not mind paying more. I do not mind paying taxes at all. The problem is the generalization of this tax program. While it will hit me one way, someone making 10K per month will hit them another.

The other issue is there is no ZUS reform, and this is a business killer. While I enjoy the historical perspectives, history is not indicative of the present, and certainly is not something to control the future. It is history, and it can be used to learn from, but it can not control policy of the future when the conditions surrounding that historical context have changed.

But back on topic. Trying this licensing game with Polands most important ally is simply a stupid move.

I am all for the health care investment. Finally, better late than never. Not getting info from TVN. I watch all news and read all news regardless of outlet. Thats a balanced source of info. 10K is upper middle class, I agree. So why go after those who are just about to make it good? Maybe, the poor need to start working harder, saving more, getting a better education? You know, how most people who become successful do things. 4-5K is not middle class any more. I have low level employees making that. Middle is 7 to 10K. Watching too much TVP amiga ;-)

Again, PiS tax and spend, and the tax is on the middle class predominantly. Upper class will pay a little more, and they will find more write offs and business expenses. The taxation game goes on. The problem is, all of these cuts and then give away programs can not be paid for. Anyone look at the ZL today? Back up to 3.9 against the $. Inflation rising quicker than ever.

Wealthy people don't mind paying a little more. It will not break them. But the middle class can not become upper middle class with these programs. The poor get a little more money, but not enough to really make changes in their lives.

Yet, PiS wants to pick a fight with a business owned by a company that is based with Polands most important ally militarily? This is simply moronic behavior. Imagine the US putting a tax on Krakus ham, or not renewing import licenses? Or Nivea products, or all Polish products? Those business would be crushed in short order. Picking a fight is fine, but dont bring a butter knife to fight off a machine gun.

I find TVP funny really, its so absolutely off base of facts. That said, all the people who actually believe TVP as gospel is really what makes Poland look backward to so many other countries. My personal experiences here over the last three years are really unbelievable to people outside of Poland, and this TVP is just another example of the "youth" of democracy here, and the inexperience of real politics. TVN is not close to CNN or MSNBC, TVN is so much closer to center than any other broadcast I have seen, while TVP is FOX on a steroid induced rage.

Actually, I watched new in Kuwait several times, and they are pretty one sided as well. Pretty equal with TVP now that I think about it.

Ok, I get it whats happening in America. This is about Poland, and TVN is really quite balanced, TVP is worse than anything I have seen in any other country and I have seen a lot of the world. It is laughable that anyone would believe TVP is actually "news". Truly this is not a matter of anything more than PiS not being able to deal with another voice to the people. They are afraid, and cowards who are on the ropes usually try desperate measures.

Then since the TV station is 51% owned by a company in Sweden, and EU member, there should be no problem renewing the license by your standards.

News needs to be free otherwise it is just edited propaganda. TVP is really hilarious in their presentation though. I sometimes watch and then watch the exact same video on other stations and the spin on TVP is just amazing. Outright lies, that of course the church must condone, hypocrites.

Bottom line is until now, the TVN license was renewed and seen as compliant based on the Sweden ownership contingent. Only now, when it suits PiS and they need it, are they trying to mess with the license. Not only that but they try to mess with the new US ambassador.

So, look for some blowback from the US if this continues. The last country Poland wants to offend or pi$$ off is the US. Make US business think that Poland is a hostile environment and you will see a slowdown in foreign investment from big companies. This once again is amateur hour in Polish politics.

This is not about USA TV stations. Who cares if they are worse, they do not effect Poland. The bottom line is in a free market economy, you have to have foreign owned companies to create competition. Poland is turning into an isolationist country, and if it continues, they wont be in the EU much longer. PiS will then get the booming cold war economy back they seem to want to badly.

These guys are simpletons. They are religious maniacs who can not govern effectively for the entire country. Attack the middle class and wealthy to give more to poor and unmotivated who are not even trying to better themselves. Socialism at work. Class warfare. I have said many times I am in favor of a lot of their social positions such as immigration and all the pride stuff. I think being too heavy handed is what alienates them from the more educated and they are relying on older, and less educated demographic to support those positions while those demographics are shrinking.

Poland does not have the muscle for a fight. A quick little cut off from EU money and Poland paying back the EU? Are you kidding? The zl would be worth nothing. Picking fights you can not win is never a good idea. Negotiating is the best idea for Poland, but PiS thinks they are hardened fighters when the world laughs at them. Really its like Jimmy Carter saying he would go kick some @$$. It just wont happen.

TVN is pretty balanced. A little left, but not the far right absolute BS propaganda machine that is TVP.

Poland can not muscle anyone. Sorry, they are simply not strong enough. Without the EU money, and all the US support by way of business and military, and Poland is barely above Ukraine without it.

Anyone see CPI index today? Higher than even PiS anticipated. Inflation escalating daily. PLN devalued 8% over the last month. Tough talk was cute from my little brother too until I had to beat his @$$ to set him straight as a teenager.

Its clear that PiS is on a collision course with just about everyone. The EU and USA are simply not going to continue to tolerate stupidity, and Poland would be absolutely F'd if they lost US support and EU money.

There is only so much Biden, or any US President will put up with. Imagine Trump response if they tried to shut down a US owned business? No way he would have sat and did nothing. Biden will not either. The free market in Poland is at risk with all the consolidating PiS has done already.

I read some recent Polexit articles, and the leadership of this country is disgraceful. Well intentioned, but disgracefully moronic. I understand the positions of this government quite well, and the reasons behind the positions. They simply do not know how to go about business without pissing in peoples cheerios. They are political newborns on the world stage flexing muscle they have not developed on their own.

If PiS does this, they will have issues with the US. I can imagine some issues coming up for Polish reporters in the US. Some additional bad press in the US about Poland. This is really not the fight PiS should be taking up, but it shows how arrogant they are thinking they can do anything.

It is such stupidity to think they can control all the news and think they will retain control of the country by it. All regime's like this fail, time and again. They will too.
