While I do know of some man that may take a gig or two outside of their Jobs 95% of man I know and knew had 1 job. In fact it was my mom that at times worked more than one job due to the demand.

has to take care of finances on top of all that, it means that there is something deeply wrong with the man in such family

Or maybe simply the women in those households are better at it? Or the women has better idea how to devide the money from all that 'homemaking duties'.

the woman protects the safe while Kania knows the remaining 40% where the male spouse does it.

While weird that would be OK, but all that margines spoleczny crap?

As to the freil and emotional? Well, Paulina showed the best answer with the article.

for me it's margines społeczny

Yyy, the couple's decision about who keeps the money is enough to assign somebody to margines społeczny. Not how they spend they money or even if they have any money to keep? Wow...

History / Historical look at various civilisational differences between Russia and the West [159]

develop some sort of Russophilia as a healthy psychological reaction.

I think it's enough to read few of Velund's and Crno3 posts to wonder why you'd ever like anything Russian.

in the name of country that lost millions of its citizens in their struggle against the nazis.

But at first killed many in Union with the Nazis.

Life / Polish females who made it [29]

In the past it was common, especially among noble and aristocratic families, to marry off their kids to "the right" family.

We also have to rememberthat marrying a girl to a wealthy man was often the only way to secure her economically in the future. Today a woman can marry a poor man and still secure her living by her own work. Back then she could only rely on man.

Life / In Poland on holiday - need help with bad case of homesickness [108]

Lenka didn`t forget Poland after 15 years of emigration.

It will be 10 years soon.

They aren`t wider, the same as before

I meant compared to UK:)

I slightly recovered and I'm back from my holiday.
The funny thing is when I like two sides for the same issue. E.g.:

I like that doctors, nurses etc are being polite, more partner-ish etc in UK but I hate that the hard truths are being glossed over,

Example that I came across was a pregnant women (just the beginning of pregnancy) with BMI 30 was told that it's fine. While I understand that she shouldn't go on a diet or anything in that time I would like a middle ground when she would be informed that it's too high and care has to be put into healthy food.

Or H&s:
I like the care put into h&S measures in UK but I also like the feeling of personal responsibility that comes with the more relaxed Polish approach.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [558]

When you ask a group to raise your hand if you feel you are not racist and nobody does,

It means they roll their eyes, say 'get lost' and go back to what they were doing.

It may come as a shock but people really can not give a damn about your 'demands'

gradual recovery from having been a communist country

I wouldn't to be honest. If anything I would say it helpdesk with this. In Poland lawyers and factory worker's kids were in the same school, lived in the same building etc and I think most people saw that there is nothing special in it and with hard work you can change your future.

it was a seemingly well calculated decision based on the fact that you could not envision Poland affording you the same life

No, it had more personal touch to it :) I was never bothered that much about money beside being able to have a roof over my head and enough to survive without a big struggle.

you don't notice anything for a long time and then it hits you... wow! things are so different! and for the better!

That is big part of my feelings atm. It seems Poland is constantlyimproving, I see so much work done, things progressing etc. Even the people I talk to seem more interested in improving themselves....

It's so motivating.

Maybe it's because you're getting older.

I know I'm not getting younger but I'm not 40 yet. What will it be when I'm 50?

but you could retire back to Poland.

I think that is a lie emigrees often tell themselves :) By the time you get there you are either too old and weak, too connected to the new place ( especially grown up kids) or disconnected from your homeland.

The UK has one of the most diverse and stunning architectural heritages in the world.

Uk has one of the most amazing building in the world. True.
But the average streets in towns is a different matter. Not to mention cleaner and better kept ( of course I compare only from my limited experience)

I'm sure that it's just a phase, that is why I was talking about homesickness but I feel that if I won a lottery I would move back in a blank of an eye.

sense of aloneness is always getting to me after the first three days

I'm not alone neither in UK nor in Poland.

Why not?

Because it's not only about me. Plus as I'm not as wealthy as some of PFers so getting a place, work etc would be a big risk.

this time of year most men go the shops in shorts

I do not share your bare legs aversion so I don't mind. I do mind jogging bottoms for every occasion including job interview.

when I'm back in the UK

I can agree only about the street crossing and shop assistants.

And no, I'm not like that every time I visit. This is first time.

Please cut down on your quotes

Life / In Poland on holiday - need help with bad case of homesickness [108]

I'm in Poland on holiday and I'm suffering the worst case of homesicness since I moved.

Everything seems better. It's cleaner, pavementa are wider, I can see new investments everywhere, kids still go on their own around streets without being in danger or being a threat themselves. Guys are capable of wearing jeans to the store instead of jogging bottoms etc.

I know not everything is so sweet but I'm having a bad case of 'what have I done, I should have never left.
If I don't fix it I will be one unhappy bunny in two weeks.

Travel / Changing trains in Poznan [29]

trains don't wait

They do. It's called skomunikowanie. But it does depend on the situation. Like the number of travelers, how big the delay is, what other options there are etc

Travel / Changing trains in Poznan [29]

Less than 50/50. Due to the distance 5 minutes delay is nothing. Add not knowing the train station (my assumption here) and you have a very risky change over. Even for local trains I would like to have 10+ minutes for a change.

It is true though that you can inform the crew about the change and they will try to hold the second train.
