News / Years of Poland in the EU - assessment of pros and cons [1199]

@Korvinus
I dont know about that. Putin would much rather take Poland from the EU and NATO and would poop all over Belarus to get it done. Belarus has nothing to offer over Poland. Even Poland without the EU is much better off than Belarus and the Ukraine and they really want the Ukraine. Lukashenko could end up in a ditch somewhere if Putin grew tired of him, he is a bad press magnate. Putin doesnt need him.

News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [996]

I can see the EU having problems in their own court with this. The Polish ruling is not all encompassing. The ruling really just effects laws not covered by existing treaties. The EU can not retroactively or unilaterally make laws without unanimous consent. Merkel, from the sidelines now, is calling for compromise, I think because she is thinking these same things.

@amiga500
Have to agree. That is pretty clear. I am a federalist when it comes to the law, and black and white with plain meaning is easy to understand. This actually support PiS argument and the EU could be forced to just accept things.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

@amiga500
PiS doesn't have the ball$ to take Poland out of the EU, I think even you would agree with that. There wouldn't be demonstrations, there would be riots, and people would leave Poland by the millions for other EU nations.

As for the wager.....Betting on a date for EU funds to be released doesn't make much sense. Betting on funds to be released only after a certain judicial arm in Poland is disbanded is what it will take to get the money. So come up with something along those lines.

EU wont be backing down on the money this time. They have been pushed into a corner, in part by their own actions and inaction previously. Holding on to money is really the best weapon they have. Make Poland change or make PiS hurt the economy more and force political change in elections because of the money. Always follow the money.

PiS are communists. They are traitors to Poland if you want to label traitors. They sell out their citizens regularly.

PiS and their amateur economic ideas. First they raise interest rates, knowing the courts will make the ruling on EU law, hopping that it will slow inflation. Not thinking that the court ruling will see the EU will then slow or eliminate funding from the COVID recovery funds, arrogantly saying that Poland doesnt need those monies because they can recover on their own. Not thinking though that the new Polish Deal is almost completely funded by those EU funds. Now without that money, another PiS promise of the Polish Deal becomes less likely to happen.

The zloty is now getting pounded by people shorting the currency. Inflation, due to lack of EU funds will continue to rise, and interest rate hikes will do nothing to stop it.

Honestly, I understand the PiS stance on supremacy of Polish law, and somewhat agree with it. They are handling this completely wrong and showing the world just how stupid this leadership really is.

Extreme left is MSNBC and NBC. CNN is left, but not as far. This discussion is about the economy not immigration. On immigration I am definitely far right. On the economy I am a centrist.

Ukrain's are to Poles what Poles were to Brits a few years ago. So what. Everyone is biased or racist in some way.

@amiga500
Your arguments are as predictable as the zloty. Three times a year I can make money just on currency. Because the Polish government and economy are that predictable.

Your comments about the past are not indicative of the future. Projections for the last year have completely missed. There is no foreign money coming in and if there were we would see it on the ground. It is gone. No one with real money wants anything to do with PiS policy. The political landscape is too volatile. Real money is not a few million bucks either. That's just regular business people, and they are also staying away.

You and several others like to tie political general policy to everything. I dont gaf about PiS or PO. I know where the money is, and where its going, and it isn't in Poland.

Certainly the pandemic has played a part, and the management of the pandemic by PiS, their other stupid policies, bad fiscal policy to be specific, are what is keeping real money out of Poland. Poland pi$$ed off the wrong groups with their challenges to licensing, and all the rule of law BS with the EU. These are real issues impacting investment. Cheap labor here is going away, and call centers have been leaving for India and Indonesia. Huge office vacancies to go with those job and tax losses as well.

People who actually have a stake in the economy will tell the truth. Unless you are in the grocery business, you dont have a whole lot of hope for growth, and if you are in the grocery business, your growth will be limited do to inflation.

Not a PO supporter either. You really need to get a grip on your extremism thinking. I provided proof on inflation in the ING bank statements made public. But here is more:

menafn.com/1102901036/Inflation-in-Poland-continues-unabated-could-near-7-in-December&source=30

Since you like conservative outlooks on the subject and you like Goldman try this one:

biologyreporter.com/goldman-sachs-another-revision-of-polands-inflation-outlook/

A decent summary is also here:

thefirstnews.com/article/inflation-exceeds-expectations-prompts-post-pandemic-recovery-concerns-25085

As for VC, and investment, you would actually know things if you were in Poland and moving in those circles of people who are involved with VC. You are not and do not.

These conservative reports when viewed from street level, in the real practice of business development and investment, are still on the low side. Deliberately low to not create panic.

Money is not flowing into Poland. The world view of Poland is taking a beating for any number of reasons on the extreme political left. But the facts are that those lefties also control a lot of cash, and when you offend them, they spend it in other places or not at all.

In the business community there is a quiet restlessness. You can actually feel the tension in meetings where people are now afraid to commit to projects and investment. Decisions are delayed over and over. Traveling this country, more and more family business are closing and unable to recover. Some money is gone and never coming back. PiS knows this and it is why they have not forced more lockdowns even when numbers of COVID are accelerating. Another lockdown would push Poland over the edge financially.

The strength of currency is a direct indicator of how the world views a country. Poland has lost 10% value of its currency in the last 2 months or so. That is a statement.

Really? Americans are not coming to Poland to invest now. Thats a fact. Start ups are almost non existent, and there is no foreign venture capital. You have no clue kid, really no clue at all to what is happening here. All you read is PiS propaganda and TVP. You are embarrassing with personal attacks because that is what those of little intelligence resort to when their ideals are threatened.

You are right though, much more of the PiS garbage and I will either go back to USA or head to Slovakia. Not locked into any place. The beauty of freedom. Unlike Australia.

@cms neuf
Oh you mean like how gas is over 5.80 a liter when oil has been at all time lows? And the prices at state owned companys have not come down? Like milking your own citizens like fat cows? Yes. PiS care for everyone as long as you vote for PiS and can get them $

@Novichok
And when the same people in charge of inflation are also taking tax money away from cities and they in turn have to cut or eliminate services, what is that? A thief with authority to not only steal but to tell the police they don't have enough resources to investigate. Yet, the Robin Hood thief continues to give to the "poor" in order to control them since they outnumber the wealthy or middle class.

Come and suckle from the great tit of momma Poland and JK will make sure there is a ham in every fridge and butter to put on the bread that is now ten times more expensive than it was two years ago.

You really are funny. Inflation is 5.5% right now and rising. I enjoy amateurs who think they know macro economics and want to debate. With the economy doing so well, why is the zloty in the toilet? You know, the strength of growth forcast and all.

Where is one claim of inflation abating? Please show me one credible claim from a bank maybe? You need to back away from the bong, put down the rainbow skittles, and get a little educated.

With EU money, comes infrastructure funding and the continued funding of jobs. That liquidity keeps people spending, while not actually producing more, which drives prices up. You know, less supply and greater demand. That concept we all learned in grade school. Or maybe you were getting beat up by a bully on the swing set when that class took place.

There is no bank outside of Polish government owned banks that is projecting anything other than more inflation, and economic slow downs. That EU stimulus money better come fast or things will get dark very quickly.

Economy? Ohhhhhh you mean that thing we all count on for jobs and liquidity? Yeah, well we just don't have a lot of time to address inflation right now, we are a little more concerned with lgbtq battles, and foreign owned news outlets.

Excellent management of the economy. PiS promise of a fruitful future clearly meant no fruit on tables in the future. JK needs to get his brilliant advisers back into a room with a box of crayons and work on the next financial plan.

"so when are you going to post proof backing up your statement that PiS was trying to shut down/close down gay bars and nightclubs?"

Why would PiS shut down the favorite hang outs of the 50% of PiS members who are pole smokers? Thats like shutting down a PiS polling station.

Slovakia my friend, not Ukraine. Much better tax and residency conditions. Though I could probably own my own city in Ukraine, not worth the headache.

You obviously meant the "carbon footprint"? You say my rights are infantile? You are the infant here. You are a wannabe special interest left wing nut case. Even Amiga is not as crazy as you are with theories. Good to know your rainbow flag waiving didnt get in the way of you having kids though.

Unlike England, Poland can not afford to buy its way out of all the EU agreements. Poland is a net receiver of funds, and not a net payer. Poland could not even barrow its way out of the EU. Leaving the EU would decimate Poland, it would be hitting an automatic reset button and sending the country in a time machine back to conditions more like Ukraine today. Been to Ukraine lately? I have. Not a place I would recommend.

@pawian
Poland, for the last 30 years, and since joining the EU has done a very good job at maintaining traditions and its culture. It will be the last country to see its identity fade to a multicultural mess. Poland wont leave the EU on its own, maybe they will get kicked out, but they wont leave on their own.

As for all the bleeding heart ideals you support. It is my right to not have to be forced to see these demonstrations in places I work and live. It is their right to have their needs fulfilled in a public area like a park. I do mind my own business until people have to put their personal beliefs on display when I didn't ask to see them. Their right to have a parade does not trump my right to not be forced to view it.

@amiga500
I am not saying leave to government at all. I am saying that marches and parades are not effective. They draw unwanted attention from competing groups. There is no such thing as a "nice" parade any more. I am saying parades going through people's neighborhoods where the work and live are irritants and should be banned. Want a parade, have it in a public park, not on my street. Want to be gay, be gay, just not on my street, want to be an Muslim go ahead in you own home.

Want to immigrate to Poland? Great. If you can accept that the people already living here don't want to change their culture to accommodate you, have at it. Telling people they have to change is never a good idea. I don't have to accept openly gay relationships, my choice. All the parades and rainbow flags in the world wont change my choice. Want to quietly live your gay life in your own home? Go ahead, they have been doing it for centuries. Like hetero couple have as well. To each their own.

The social dimension of flamboyant gays wearing costume and dancing in the streets acting like they have lost their minds is really not a social issue I want, or most want in the streets where they work and live. Forcing the majority to accept the minority never works in the long run.
