News / Polish final report on Smoleńsk aircrash [870]

Nevertheless it is interesting !I think it is a good question.
No, doubts, no second thoughts, from the very beginning some of them made their stand. I think that discussion would be more interesting if they at least admitted that there is possibility they maybe wrong.

I just wounder why so many foreigners are interested in convincing everyone that the Smolensk Crash was a fault of the pilot.
They state that in finite terms, there no place for doubts in their posts.
I could understand if they stated their opinion, fair play, but they very intense, almost as they would have a stake in it.
Interesting ......

At the end of the day - even if there was systematic institutional failures - it doesn't excuse the commander.

Yes that all very nice, you are saying that if a plane loose engine and a wing it is still is fault of a commander.

UK, Ireland / Why Poles will never belong in England [283]

It quite clearly wasn't. In fact Poland was economically far behind her Western neighbours during that period.

Some of them, but then was economically ahead of her neighbors.

Well, If there was technical failure, there is no way to confirm it, because Russians destroyed what was left from the plane. All hard evidence gone or tampered with.....

There is not point in disusing it further, really.

They always blame pilots. The fact is that planes almost fly by themselves, and mistakes sure thing can happen but the truth is that government (I don't talk only about Polish and Russian governments) are looking for a scapegoat and who make a better scapegoat than pilots?

History / Polish historical myths - to break or not to break them? [257]

Another thing, the wings and all that were left for an individual to provide for himself. Even if wings or wing had been used in battle, now and then, it would be most probably different wings from those presented in movies.

UK, Ireland / Poles in the UK, you know were the door is [105]

Well, and their attitude the the issue differ. Some are grateful for the opportunity and some say - I had to work hard on my success and I see no reason to be grateful - individual thing really.

Thats right, the opportunity is there, sure. I thought that you were talking about something that the U.S. is actively helping immigrants.

History / Polish historical myths - to break or not to break them? [257]

But, FYI, those are Lancers/Uhlans you dope :)

WTF?Don't pay that much attention to the word hussar, it is not synonymous with husarz, not for Poles anyway, you layman :)
the pictures shows in order:
the national cavalry
Chevau-léger
Uhlans
they were reformed from the winged hussars regiments into cavalry-lancers.
Today their tradition are continued by:

sorry, by them: Poland war badge

That simple, winged hussars were outdated in XVIII century and not effective anymore.
Them were replaced by them:

Uniform

and during Napoleon times by that:

szwolez.jpg - Old Polish uniform

and they kicked your as*s!

History / Polish historical myths - to break or not to break them? [257]

Do most Polish military historians now agree that the wings were never used in battle?

Nope, they agree that most probably the wings were used in battle. Opinions wary as to; one wing or two, connected onto the armor of hussar or onto the saddle.

The winds were an element used freely by individual hussar, no uniformity induced by a higher command.

Historians, I've read, also claim that the wind whistling through the hussars wings when they charged made an eerie noise that terrified the enemy, and so they were also worn to induce panic in Poland's foes

Nope, not noise, rather their view had a psychological effect on a foe.
That and a fact that all those feathers and tiger skins, supposed to have a magical essence, infusing hussars with predatory spirit of those animals which skins and feathers they wore(bear, wolf, panther, lion; eagle, falcon).

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

That was wrong, Everest was an English surveyor,

don't you think that the mountain had a name in local lingo, if ever locals bothered to call it some other name than a big peak or a big phallus!

I take it that Everest sounds better but he did not built or invited that mountain.
However we should be grateful that his name wasn't Bigsbe or Flatt !

History / So called "inconvenient parts" of Polish history - what do you think? [158]

In your opinion.

Yes, in my opinion. However my opinion is based on an unquestionable principle that states being colonies or pupped states cannot be hold responsible or accountable for actions of their respective governing bodies as if they would had been independent states.

The fact remains that there was support for communism in Poland before 1989.

What support ? Scum and traitors, opportunist and a sad souls born in enslavement and knowing no better?
You know that Red Army lived Poland in the early 90'. That Soviet Poland was a police state run by the regime answerable and controlled by the Kremlin. So, who really did support that :

a. a traitor
b. a fool

And elections won afterwards by the reformed communist party.

These elections was won because commies were left free to roam about Scott free and grab a large chunk of the state property.

History / So called "inconvenient parts" of Polish history - what do you think? [158]

But I'm sure that the fact that more Poles were members of the PZPR than were ever members of Solidarnosc is just another inconvenient part of Polish history for you.

Nope, what inconvenient bout that?I do not contest facts, only your interpretations of them!

You're saying the two are mutually exclusive? Remember three million Poles were party members.

Well, yes but those Poles for a most part were traitors obeying commands of foreign power.
Why would Poles be assisted with their deeds?
Let say that your a very distant family member turned a murderous scum. Would be right for his victims or their families to demand compensation from you ?

Is it difficult to understand ?

Dear lady, even you should feel ashamed of telling such a pack of lies! There isn't even a shred of truth in that paragraph.

Dear Harry, There is a link for you about that issue. Unfortunately only Polish version of it is worth its salt.
pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polacy_w_Wehrmachcie]

And here we have yet another inconvenient part of Polish history: Poles ethnically cleansing Poland.

Sweet pie, not Poles but commies obeying commands from the Kremlin. That is an distinction you seem to be ignoring totally.

Established at the order of the Polish government,

Well ,there we go again, lets establish ones and for all that government of the Soviet Poland wasn't at all government of Poland, independent Poland - when you learn to distinguish between those two, you can come back and we have a real discussion if you are interested in it!!

You so far didn't discuss one single subject, just kept ranting about me a) being Harry b) not knowing polish history.

This is The Internet forum. Its means that you can scroll back and check who wrote what.
I'm saying that either you are lazy and write things and accusations without checking or you are accusing me of things I have no done on purpose, meaning you are indeed a troll.

I see no purpose to use a guest account other then when a member of the forum want to say something he/she wouldn't had said otherwise.

Never-mind all that, I asked you :

Silesianka:
nd who thinks it was ok to destroy 1000yrs of history and replace it with socialistic shoe boxes

Would you like to quote my words where I said that, or admit that you are lying.

I'm asking you to either provide a quote my words or apologize for stating something which is not true.
Nothing personal, but I expect a basic respect from a person I'm about to have a serious discussion with.
Without that I'm not going to address others issues you have risen in your post. A Half of which are off topic - this thread deals with historical issues - not contemporary trivia.
