Law / Weapons laws in Poland. Carrying a concealed handgun? [918]

They're quite steeped in traditions and hunting culture,

You are kidding me , they are more interested in getting seriously drunk three days a week at the local hunting lodge (Barn).

Then if you are really lucky you will see them pissed walking up the lane with a rifle (possibly loaded) over the shoulder.

But the great thing is if you are a member and you die, they will come in their fine green uniforms hat with feather, and shoot a volley of four shots over your grave, (live ammo probably) where it lands who knows?

Exactly someone tell us why we would need guns?

Poland cannot be compared to countries like America,Mexico,Brazil UK etc, we just don't have the horrific crime / terrorist threat here.

Poland has a very low crime rate.

What can I say brits or Americans who move here will have a shock, we DON't have their problems neither are we ever likely to.

Just check out the polish press, the nasty stuff is very very rare here.

Now car crashes that's a different matter.

We in The UK unfortunately

But we in Poland can legally own pepper spray and tazers, we can also own without licence black powder weapons so a six shooter colt replica is quite accurate and lethal up to 80 yards. everything else you can imagine is available if you know the right guy.

But the fact is you don't need any of the above to live a very safe and quiet life here, so nobody bothers tooling up.

fantastic.

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [679]

Quite the opposite in my experience, every community has a soltys (Head of the village) he knows everyone, if you need help he/she is the place to go, I don't own tractors, diggers, spreaders, plenty of locals with equipment with drivers to hire. you soon get to know everyone in the village, later on you may wish to hire out/share your own equipment even if its just a cesspool pump, its all appreciated.

Then there is church, harvest Festival, hunting society , drinking barn, for further entertainment and integration with the community.

History / History of two Neighbors: Poland - Germany Interrelations [283]

Blair proved that Britain can actually afford social justice

He proved he could kneel down and pray with Bush before he rained hell on innocent civilians in Iraq , you were in Poland remember!!!!

Volvo? who in their right mind would buy one of those.

Douglas @Your lack of care for the following generation beggars belief."

The following generation is inheriting one of the fastest growing economies in Europe.

And no Doug is not listening.

will clearly help to ruin the economy.

How can you say that, would you want her to continue to work if she were a fire woman or steel erector, do you really want people to slave their golden years to feather the nests of the bourgeois, there is a seat at the local Tory club in Nottingham waiting for you Doug.

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [282]

I am with you on this we were thrown into a different orbit, a sad reality of being the losers of war, betrayal?.

The entire soviet propaganda machine against us, we tried but failed

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Resettlement_Act_1947

Yeah many in Poland see me as a curiosity , as they did in Britain, not an easy thing to live with.

War is not an excuse for abandoning humanity.

Delph you don't get the point, war is the abandonment of humanity , that's why wars should never be entered.

Stop watching stupid war films where the battlefields have honour and rules, dude it does not happen in real life, join go see.

For being against extrajudicial assassinations of Polish citizens?

Poland was a battlefield until 1989, there was no legitimate judiciary in Poland , sorry delph you follow the PRL, I follow the legitimate Polish government in exile based in London .

The war was not over until the official symbols of Polish Authority were handed over to Lech Walesa's newly formed free government.

Sorry Delph you have been indoctrinated by the enemy of the nation, there will be a time I hope soon the swamp will be cleared.

I know your cynical view of the brave in Polands government of WWII that fled to London to preserve the offices, standards and legitimate seals of the II democratic republic of Poland, but they were no different than the last Polish cavalry man that would not allow the Polish standard fall to the ground and be stomped upon be the enemy.

From what I see Poland is growing stronger under it's leadership of today, all of us who were cursed by the evil of the Soviets an Nazis will have our day, traitors beware.

We tend to frown upon extra-judicial assassinations, you know.

There was no peace treaty with the soviets nor any legitimate polish government during the occupation , Poland was at war until 1989, but you would not understand that you are not a pole.

Life / Showing respect and appreciation by Polish people, forms of greetings in Poland. [31]

If they initiate it, of course it's fine.

No it's not, to refuse and pull away would cause an awkward social problem, so you get kissed like it or not.

Plus you get covered in cheap perfume and you have to go to the toilet to clean off the lipstick oh and then try and wash the foundation cream/powder off your 500zl shirt.

Yeah but probably like me that is only a lesson you learn when it is too late, did you ever listen to " living years by mike and the mechanics"

I don't think you need to blame yourself, my father was a Polish tough old boot very traditional, sometimes that would clash with the values I was getting living in my host country (UK).
