Food / Traditional Polish Foods [141]

10 days or even longer.

I will give this a go. Do you put spices in yours or just for Xmas Kompot?

What can you see?

Some very blurred plants.

meticulously nibbled at by hares.

Have you seen them eating the plants? I've never actually seen a hare.

kompot

How long would this keep in the fridge after making? I've had Kompot before but the smoky tasting one usually served at Xmas.

Could be the end of the leek lifecycle but they can be produced in response to extreme weather. Cut them off and the leek will keep growing.

You can eat them which I'm sure you've done.

Food / Help with Polish recipe - Żurek soup? [25]

other Polish traditional food, like pierogi, naleśniki and sernik (cheesecake) :) ❤️

All my favourite Polish foods :)

the moderator messed up my post and it can be confusing now

I'm not sure what's going on either. The thread title has been changed to include the words ' Żurek soup', so it now looks like I was suggesting a type of soup that the OP already knew about. There's also a quote in my post that I didn't make.

On other threads I've had quotes removed with the end result that what I was saying no longer made sense.

My grandma would hang the cheese in the cheesecloth tied to a knob of a kitchen cupboard and let the liquid drip

Interesting. I bet not many people do that anymore.

Polonia / Should I visit Portugal? [35]

they often don't leave the hotel at all,

I can't imagine a more boring holiday.

I've never understood that... mentality...

Me neither although I suppose if you are a family with kids it might work out to be cheaper.

foreign vacations with infants.... don't they have grandparents who would like to spend some time with them?

Maybe they don't have a choice but to take them. You're presuming that grandparents have retired and aren't still working. That might not be the case.

Food / Help with Polish recipe - Żurek soup? [25]

The soup sounds like Żurek, Polish sour rye soup, which is made from fermented rye flour and is traditionally served at Easter.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sour_cereal_soup

Does anyone know what this cheese is called and how to make it?

dry curd cottage cheese.

In Poland this is called Twaróg ( Polish farmer's cheese )

It sounds like your mother was trying to extract any remaining liquid in the cheese by pressing it. Maybe someone else here can help as I've not heard of this method before.

Life / Which animals are native to Poland? [103]

Black squirrels

They're so cute! I didn't even know there were black squirrels. Thought they were either red or grey.

Is something dispensed inside there? Looks a little like something you'd get coffee out of if it weren't for the door on there.

Feedback / I love this forum - It's so Polish: tolerant, inconsistent, amusing [325]

This is double Dutch to me. :):)

I'm not sure if it's the same as clearing cache/cookies etc

I don't bother doing that anymore as it messes up all passwords etc. I've only ever had to do that for this forum and last time I did it I had endless problems with my google account.

Sadly, my boxes will remain forever white :(

If you didn`t answer it then, it means it was too difficult.

Or I didn't see it. I'm not camped out on the forum!

This is probably going to sound nuts but is it an aid to getting into the vehicle? It's difficult to tell how high up off the ground the door to get in is from the photo.
