Love / Valentines Day & Polish men [130]

Good ole PF to attract a Jew-hater to even the most innocuous thread.

Where's the hatred? That he thought Jews had a day to celebrate Love. Man, they are so evil, those Jews, celebrating love like they do.

Love / Valentines Day & Polish men [130]

Its a western (I think even Jewish) tradition, but young poles have accepted it.

I didn't know Saint Valentine was Jewish. Interesting and weird the things you learn here,

History / Polish inventors - what have they ever given to the world? [101]

Polish born physicist and optics theoretician, Georges Nomarski is credited with numerous inventions and patents including Nomarski interference contrast (NIC), the method is widely used to study live biological specimens and unstained tissues.

Patek Philippe made the first wrist-watch in 1868. They pioneered the perpetual calendar, split-seconds hand, chronograph, and minute repeater in watches.

Should be
Patek Philippe made their first wrist-watch in 1868.

The first wrist watch was by Breguet. First Chronograpgh by a Frenchman or arguably by a Brit as was the repeater. Split second hand - French. Perpetual calender on a wrist watch was in the 20th Century - Patek was long dead.

Their swiss watches are in another class though.

Already reported, but I must say that I wonder too.

He deserved a rap for what was #369. Guess he got p*ssed that JM was better read on the subject, otherwise, JM/DE was quite stimulating on the genesis thread.

News / Poland fines singer for bashing Bible [159]

If she had said, "I think Buddhism is completely ridiculous,"

But she did! She once said ' I think Buddhism is ridiculous because it was written by Muslims'

(No she didn't really)

I'd give you the name and dates but that bastion of 'Free-Speech', the USA, has shut down Wikipedia.

Thanks, Hythorn sorted my confusion between Typhus and Typhoid culminating with the discoveries of L.Pasteur.

JohnnyM was saying in another thread there is a work-around if you disable Javascript to access wikipedia. Though it seems to work on Firefox just fine, anyway.

News / Poland fines singer for bashing Bible [159]

If you believed in it, you would know who was "chosen".

Christians will use the parable of the wedding banquet in Luke 14 to claim they are inheritors also. But without the need for Mosaic law due to the sacrifice of rabbi Jesus.

Hard to mention the bible without mentioning Jews...they got all the starring roles.

This is a blatant violation of freedom of speech. I'm glad I live in America and not that shi[thole Poland.

No it is more I abhor vacuous statements much like everything you post here. I like America's free speech as it makes it easier to spot the simpletons.

When I worked in Mental Health I was told psychotic's could only communicate from within a dreamlike state using symbolism. The use of 'psychodelic' drugs can also mimic this state. Though anyone who claims to have deciphered St. John's work in Revelations in modern times needs his head checked. It must have been great entertainment way back when and given its hearers much to muse over.

There's plenty of reasons one can give not to believe the bible as literal truth, but being drunk and stoned doesn't make the many writers of the books that 'make up' the bible, or anyone else, a liar. I'm never so honest as when I am drunk. Only a very childish mind could take the most influential literature there has ever been as dismiss it with such a crass argument as to why it is unbelievable.

Food / What exactly is Polish Bread? [90]

It is probably sacrilegious but Polish bread makes good toast.

Homemade Polish rye bread would easily become contaminated with ergot which is now synthesized as LSD-25 giving the Polish varieties of religious experience.

Life / Fat People in Poland? [161]

In fact human evolution stopped as soon as agriculture was able to provide abundance, because natural selection was no longer operant, gene pools are far less restricted when alimentary abundance allows almost every member of the species to survive to reproductive age.

It'll only take a disaster for it to start up again, like ozone depletion. GM foods are making us taller, bigger and less resistant, and as males have children later in life there is more scope for mutation. It would be good if like the French appreciation of good food is taught at primary school level. A bit cruel, but as fatties are seen as ugly they'll be less likly to reproduce...they can console themselves with a supersized meal.

Here's a charity an old friend is involved in, humanitarni.pl, ou'll see that some children do not receive a square meal.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

That would appear to be subjective and not objective, Wrocław

I'll use an example to expand on my post #472 regarding the subjective and contextual use of Central and Eastern:

John says "F'ing East Europeans, nicking our jobs!"
Jane says "Ohh, Central Europe, such exquisite landscapes!"

In these cases I know Poland is included in both terms.

It isn't objective but relational.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

Hahahaha. In the world today, most of them are all about money - and not about education.

That has nothing to do with the point I was making on racism not being the motivation of an elite education...nor is it a logical assumption.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

Conservative, elite type of schools and Universities I seriously doubt promote egalitarianism, quite the contrary. Actually it would be logical to assume that is their raison d'etre?

I'll rephrase due to a weird mod. It is logical to assume that schools and universities raison d'etre is to nuture and encourage intelligence and capability and are elitist regarding these aspects of a person.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

Given what the report on post#162 has to say about discrimination of even Asylum granted Chechnyians in the work place, I can't see why anyone from developing countries would want to stay there except for a foot-in to the rest of the EU. Why are they interested in Poland? What's it got? Every Pole who has mentioned a reason for leaving to come to UK says there's nothing but family, if that.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

Here English people get discriminated against for not being 'ethnic' enough.

All your stories are from the whingy self-pitying Express/Daily mail group. Have you anything of your own where their is a denial of your right to pride, as you can only find a few stories that make the newspapers for being bizarre and written for whingers. Only looked at two first one the flag was blocking the rear view from the car there is nothing illegal about displaying the st george cross, second the job was to encourage minorities to take an interest in the local environment where the ethnicity was 97% White English, frankly I'm please that a foreigner would take an interest in our environment and landscape. Thought the Independent may be interesting but was irrelevant.

It is really cool and progressive to help encourage and fund native cultures even here in Britain such as the Welsh or Cornish, yet being proud of native English culture makes you a racist.

Does it? Give some examples.
Every English person I know is proud of who they are and their heritage.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

who one earth said I hate Eastern Europeans? I have a great fondness and respect for Eastern European culture. spasiba

Que? I was pointing out that the lateral and medial contexts of Eastern and Central are used for contrast depending on the situation being described and the two abstract classes aren't mutually exclusive. Think of Venn diagrams if that makes it any easier for you.

Barney cleverly moved the goal posts(or context) on me, and then implied that classifications are also divisive. I then played on the idea of longitude and latitude lines. How on earth you thought my response to barney meant you hate Eastern Europeans is something you need to figure out for yourself, at least not with my help.

You didn't understand my earlier post on you wouldn't of written your last one which is easily dismissed by looking at the context in which Der Spigiel published its article.

Poland is in Northern Europe.

:))
Yes...well...There's a fine line between lunacy and its contrast. Whether it runs horizontally or vertically, from a global perspective it's circular, eventually.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

16 pages of this. It must have been answered somewhere and then resurrected by a fool or a troll.
East is to the right of Germany. When in the UK there is talk of Eastern Europe, Poland is included. It contrasts with Western Europe.

There is also a central Europe which has Germany, Poland etc. It contrasts with the surrounding areas as the periphery. Like a doughnut Central Europe is the hole.

That's all there is to it.
Anyone who says it is not either East or central is a lunatic. Anyone who says it can be only one or the other is simple minded. No offense meant.

The OP should be POLAND: EASTERN AND CENTRAL European country. (As a statement)
But then there would be little else to be said.
