News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

You can't ensure anything with Belarus in it's current state. They already tried the donkey carrot way - the stick is broken and the carrot got bitten. Ensuring fairness in Belarus? No such option.

News / A devestating verdict on the Polish church [279]

In what way ?

Olaf's already answered in how many ways in the long run. And small details? I can add that every Pole while growing up has Catholic Religion classes in school, is pretty much surrounded by crosses. Every person has got catholic friends and family members.

And whatever your religion and point of view is you are gonna live your life being affected these people and therefore by religion. There's always gonna be pressure from those around you. I can't image how could one live in a catholic country and not be affected by catholicism.

By the way I'm not saying Polish religion is bad, I'm not saying beliefs of Poles are bad, tradition is very important. I've been to catholic funeral, I've been to an atheist funeral - the only thing that is more sad than atheist funeral is probably atheist wedding. The tradition that is following catholic religion in Poland is huge and makes these celebrations grand and unforgetting.

if you are not part of the church it doesn't affect you much !

Not true, if you are not part of the church and you live in Poland it still does affect you. No matter what you can't deny years of tradition. And the fact of religion and politics being intertwined in this country for so long you have the very right to speak your mind concerning it.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

Several members of government and the oppositiong agreed on, that the body buried at the Wawel castle was the president's body. Hausband of the president's daughter said the same thing - he actually added that the body looked different because of natural processes which occur after death.

News / A devestating verdict on the Polish church [279]

Nothing new really, Catholic church in Poland has been going backward for some time already. It's nice to see actual members of the church snapping and speaking out the truth. Despite that, nothing is really going to change about how church works, which can be seen by a recent interview with Archbishop Michalik in "of course" xenophobic "Nasz Dziennik" criticising the mentioned "verdict".

As for now I hope that constitutional tribunal can somehow affect the resolutions of the "financial/wealth commision" and allow retaking of some of the lands seized by the church.

Life / Class system in Poland - does it exist? [90]

The problem doesn't exist anymore, but I remember the stories told by my grandparents too, about someone who had a noble surname and part of his family refused to come to his wedding with a commoner ;o.

Life / Polish authors, books & literature. [95]

Ludwik Stomma - "Polskie Złudzenia Narodowe" ( Polish National Delusion ), a great read and an interesting view of Polish history myths. I'd recommend this book to harry, because imo he is looking in the wrong place... anyways I dunno if there's an english edition.. I'm gonna post an abstract of this book someday ;o

I think it is because of election in Poland. To love Poland is a fashion in modern Russia...nonsense

Maybe it's there to work on Polish expats in Russia before their voting?

Life / Help me find this Polish band and song.... [117]

Can anyone help Trevor identify this song?

I did some googling earlier, couldn't find any hints :/ And the only "countryside" themed song from my childhood was "Rolnik sam w dolinie" ;) which was more of a child's game then a real song..

"ranu"

sounds like "rano" - morning, or "Panu" - lord, probably the first one, but if it was a religious song then it could have been "Panu"...

This one another version of "Rolnik sam w dolinie":

Rolnik sam w dolinie, rolnik sam w dolinie - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik sam w dolinie.
Rolnik orze pole, rolnik orze pole - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik orze pole.
Rolnik sieje zboże, rolnik sieje zboże - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik sieje zboże.
Rolnik kosi zboże, rolnik kosi zboże - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik kosi zboże.
Rolnik młóci zboże, rolnik młóci zboże - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik młóci zboże.
Rolnik miele mąkę, rolnik miele mąkę - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik miele mąkę.
Rolnik piecze chlebek, rolnik piecze chlebek - hejże, hejże, hejże ha!
Rolnik piecze chlebek.

but no crying in this one ; o

It's not really an excuse. Car kits for phones aren't expensive.

If the police catches you using your mobile while driving without a car set, you can get a fine of roughtly 200 Euros, the price of a car set in all, plus you have to purchase a car set within a week after the offence;

I think it is supposedly forbidden in Poland too.. the thing is you really need to try to let yourself get seen by cops with a mobile in your hand.. it's a matter of seconds to just put it somewhere..

It would all be much easier if there was a standarised mobile plug and a built in headset/car set in every car.. I know they are working on a one charging and data connections standard now.. but it's probably gonna take some more time.

Germany moved on very quickly as they knew it was an Austrian

moved on from what? what time period are we talking about?

I said that they should have a restriction in places due to obstruction of vision.

There are laws for that, and there are nasty "window grannies" watching your car and calling the police although you just wanted to have a quick jog to get some documents before closing the city council.. ;) I don't believe that when you're in a hurry you're suddenly gonna be all "oooh but I'm gonna block this part of street and obscure the vision of those drivers oooh", in a dream world - maybe..

I'd say Polish post communist city build can't hold all the congestion..

If they have a handset, I don't mind. It's actually in most Western European countries forbidden to use your phone in the car without handset.

Well just recently I've listened to LBC the callers show was about how they are trying to change to allowed for drivers %alc amount in UK. Many callers were mentioning people driving with a celluar in their hands and how dangerous it is. Some people called and said they are using their cell phones in cars or writing messages while driving because they are such good drivers. Other examples were eating or smoking while driving being similar cause of abstractedness.

I actually hate when people do make a phone call when I'm a passenger, on the other hand I do make phone calla from my car when I was in a hurry.. always using additional wireless headphone and a mike though...

Anyways, it's rude to answer with a question.. can you answer mine now when I have helped out your curiosity ; o?

3. Drivers, come on someone send out teams of people to catch c**ts using their phones, their wages would be paid in the first hour.
