UK, Ireland / Britain's moral collapse? [99]

not that there was ever much morality there to collapse in the first place.

Coming from not only a Brit but a gay atheist Brit, I have no other choice but to snicker.

Life / Living like a local in Poland - What does it even mean? [30]

My question here is, "Do people in Poland blanch and freeze vegetables and fruits in season so they will have them to eat throughout the winter months.

Do they do a lot of home canning with fresh meats and fish to avoid the high salt content of canned crap you buy in the stores ?"

I haven't read much about this on the P.F.

I used to suffer from acid and had an ulcer

It certainly allows me to to buy lots of VIP lager with the spare cash.

Are you sure it was the acid that was causing the ulcer as excessive alcohol consumption has been know to cause them too.

(for instance I really like bread from Nowakowski and whenever I pass one of their stores, I buy several different kinds of rolls)

Read the book "Wheat Belly" and you will understand why you are over weight and most likely will never eat bread again.

News / PiS and Russian political/economic interests [70]

I read somewhere that the Americans now have so much of the stuff that their storage facilities are full,

You read correctly and that is because when OPEC had a strangle hold on us with oil at $140 a barrel we decided it was time to become independent from them. So we did.

Now it is America's turn to start selling the OPEC countries fresh water at $140 a barrel.
Just wait until we get a Republican president who will undo Obama's executive orders and order the Key Stone pipeline to be built.
Oil will drop even more as Canada can sell it to the U.S.A. cheaper then it cost the U.S to extract it.

What do you think that is going to do to the valuation of the U.S.D. and how it will effect Poland's zloty down the road ?

A lot of oil companies will be forced into bankruptcy one would think.

News / PiS and Russian political/economic interests [70]

Crude-oil prices plunged more than 5% on Monday.
Now trading is at near $30 a barrel, making light of bankruptcy ever more likely for a significant chunk of the U.S. oil industry.
Have an idea what the trickle down effect will be on Poland ?
Three major investment banks, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Citigroup Inc. now expect the price of oil to crash through the $30 threshold and into $20 territory in short order as a result of China's slowdown, the U.S. dollar's appreciation and the fact that drillers from Houston to Riyadh won't quit pumping despite the oil glut.

China is a major import of Russian oil and gas but with it's slow down they won't be using as much to pollute the world.

This will drive prices even lower.
Like I said here last week, oil will stay low for the rest of this decade.
Blame it all on the Chicoms.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Not totally true.
Any hand gun anyone buys MUST HAVE paperwork obtained from local law enforcement filed with the purchase no matter where they buy it.
Correct me if I am wrong but to my knowledge ANY GUN shipped from e-bay or any other place has to be shipped to a federal firearms licensed dealer where then the buyer can go pick it up after filling out paper work for it weather a long gun or hand gun.

What Obama and Hillary want to stop is people buying long guns (assault rifles) at gun shows for cash without filing any paper work.
Even buying a hand gun at a gun show the proper paper work and I.D. must be filed to obtain it.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

immigrants or foreigners

They are not allowed to get a gun license in the U.S.A either by just flashing a residency card.
In fact they would not be granted one period.
Only citizens 21 years of age or older after taking classes for gun safety and laws pertaining to lethal use and responsibility, a written test and an interview by a gun board.

Poland no doubt would be even more stringent since very few Polish citizens have had a life time of training as most have here in the United States.

The ruling is still in effect - states do not have the right of secession.

You don't live here, never have lived here and never will live here so quiet please ?
You are from Scutland and have limited knowledge of America.

Texas has the right to leave the united states whenever it wishes

That is correct, Texas is a State, however, they are the only state which has reserved the right to retract their statehood.

I doubt that US marines would ever fire upon their own in support of a federal government.

Correct again as the Marines have already openly stated that they would side with the civilians.
Back on topic however, if Poland was given a chance to vote on being able to own and carry a licensed handgun their is no doubt it would be voted in.

Polish law enforcement would even welcome it as they have in the United States.

Off-Topic / To ALL IMMIGRANTS ("expats") to Poland on this forum... [124]

When I first came here jon insinuated that he was British.
He used big words that he got by using a thesaurus to sound like he came from the upper crust.
No doubt the guy has been around and has a good education but far from what he pretends to be.
Once we found out that he was an ex pat from Turkey his tone changed.
He now claims to have obtained his Polish citizenship as does Roger.

Poland would support such legislation if it were brought to vote just like it was recently in Texas.
When the new year begins (2016) in the Lone Star State, licensed Texans for the first time since 1871 will be allowed to carry a holstered pistol in public under an "open carry" law passed in the Republican-dominated 2015 legislative session.

The liberals in Texas (as in Poland) claimed it would never pass but it did proving just how wrong the Polish Left is.
Looks like 2016 has started out with a positive "For the People, By the People" !

Welcome VincentR.
You will do just great here.
If I had a tip to give you it would be: "Do not post any of your personal information as it always comes back to bite people."

Polish people are great people.

Off-Topic / To ALL IMMIGRANTS ("expats") to Poland on this forum... [124]

No.
The British ex pat's on here are not well liked by anyone but themselves.
They have been tagged with the nick of "The Brit's Bullies".
They are very annoying by trying to speak for the Polish people as they pretend to be Polish citizens themselves.
Everyone here has brought it to their attention yet they continue to post as authoritarians of Poland just because they reside in Poland.
They are very insulting and try to belittle anyone they disagree with by ganging up on them like a pack of dogs.
They think their farts smell like flowers and are way smarter then the Polish people or any other western country.
Their pompous annoyance here turns into daily immature name calling.
So my advise is to sit back and read the posts for a week or two and see if what I am telling you is not true.

Then decide if you have an even chance to make friends here because of your countryman's poor manners or joining
them as another Brit idiot.

Life / All Things Christmassy in Poland [281]

By the New Years day the Christmas tree is a mere tinder box from being dried out.
A fire hazard to say the least.
I take ours outside and lean it against the birdfeeder so the small birds have a place to hide from the hawks and owls.
(At least it gives them a chance.)
Then in the spring I throw the dried up old thing on the burn pile.
What ever anyone's Christmas tradition may be is one thing, common sense safety is quite another.
You can continue to celebrate Christmas until Easter if you wish but a Christmas tree and lights are hardly required to do it.

I read some place that a lot of people buy the live carp days before because of supply and demand.
They then take them home and keep them alive in the bath tub until execution time.
(I can't imagine taking a bath with a carp)
I personally would take the fish out of the water, lay him on a cutting board, take a very sharp knife and
slice his throat just behind the gills until the blood started to flow generously.
Being a cold blooded creature I doubt the fish would feel any pain and just gently go to sleep.
All is well that ends well. :-)

Life / All Things Christmassy in Poland [281]

I found this on line:
In Poland, Celebrations begin on December 24 and usually end with Candle mass on February 2.
Customs rule the evening, so meat is not allowed, and the serving of the 12-course feast is usually followed by a gift exchange.
The meal usually begins with a Christmas Eve version of red borscht.
Its beet soup prepared differently from the everyday version and usually served with tiny dumplings, dried ceps, and fried onion.
Carp, herring, and pierogis are often on the menu, and the dinner is punctuated by makowiec, or poppy seed cake.
It's always included because the poppy seed stands for prosperity.

Life / All Things Christmassy in Poland [281]

The children are what make Christmas magic.
It seems as a child our Polish Christmas started with midnight mass and then home to open our presents which were mostly
new school cloths and maybe one toy.
Then Christmas day was glutening ourselves on all kinds of Polish foods.
The main course was a baked goose with baked mince pies, neither what us children liked.
The men sat around after the main meal and boozed it up watching the football game on t.v. while the children where to be seen but not heard without having a t.v. or computer.

The women cleaned up the mess from the meal while sipping Polish honey wine.
How it has changed as we now still attend church Christmas eve and open our presents however NO alcohol is necessary for our family.
We have a spiral ham and lemon pie which the children enjoy.
We draw family names a week before Christmas dinner and have to say something nice about that person at the dinner table before we eat. Can you imagine drawing uncle Harry's name :-]

That is followed by everyone helping clean up the mess with joyful chatter.
Dessert is served with everyone sharing their highlight of the last year.
Very family oriented fun as the excitement and magic comes from the children.
How times have changed.

Now you are claiming to be an authority

Really or is it that YOU are claiming that I am an authority with your trolling. lol
Poland has the best of two worlds belonging to the EU and NATO.
They know what side their bread is buttered on.
They ain't goin' nowhere anytime soon.

just when I think your lack of knowledge cannot astound me any further

I was thinking the same with you.
You would be speaking German today if it wasn't for the American troops.
Poland can not afford to exit the EU even if it wanted to.

Wise words

They will not be allowed to take just the cream of the EU without giving something back.

I even understand the American attitude - who in America would support going to war over Poland?

No you don't dough boy. You don't live here, have never been here or never will be.
Now you are claiming to be an authority on understanding America's attitude.
Have you heard about WW2 by any chance with American troops defending Poland ?

Germany will have no choice but to defend Poland in the event of attack.

No doubt because they are a coalition of NATO.
But without the United States Germany wouldn't be able to defend Poland against Russia.
I rest my case.

Life / All Things Christmassy in Poland [281]

but it doesn't mean us foreigners have to :))

You are using the term "foreigner" as being foreign to Jesus Christ's inspired words ? A non believer ?
Then No, you wouldn't have to on the grounds of ignorance.

those things are so boring you need drink to get through them!

As a typical alcoholic would say, we need to get pickled to go to a football game, a wedding, a funeral, family gatherings, while on vacations, at the end of the day, sitting watching t.v. at home, while playing on the internet, while socializing with friends, holidays and now it is we have to be drinking to experience a church function.

Drinking has ruined more Christmas's then one could count.
It would be easier to put a hot poker up a wild cats *** then to try and convince an alcoholic of that however.

At our house there is always a fight of who gets the turkey carcass.
Buddy you want to make some good soup that's the ticket.
And with what little bone is left after that the dog gets his Christmas dinner.
The only thing from a turkey that does not go to use here at Christmas is the gobble.
Same with a ham bone. Oh my the split pea soup that makes.
You kids just don't know how us poor folk use to survive.
We use to go to the store with a dollar and get leg of lamb, potato's, loaf of bread, some pickles, a couple bottles of good wine and a few other things for Christmas dinner. (But that was before security camera's.)

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [417]

If someone can explain the reason why some (a lot of?) Poles behave in such an incoherent manner, I will greatly appreciate...

I think the arm pit hair may play a major factor in it.
One nice trait is that Polish girls shave their arm pit hair while say the French girls braid theirs.

Life / Moving to Poland and not drinking vodka [26]

I'm a little worried about it being such a widespread thing that it becomes a significant social problem, or problem with future girlfriend's family, etc.

I think you should be your own man.
If you don't want to drink vodka then don't.
You don't have to apologize to anyone and soon your peers will not even give it a second thought that you are not throwing one back with them.

It might even be a blessing by setting an example for someone that shouldn't be drinking vodka themselves or may feel pressured like you and want to stop themselves from doing this.

Stand strong and be your own man. Alcoholics = Losers

Unfortunately too, alcoholism is not seen as a disease by still too many Poles.

Alcoholism is not a disease, it is a weakness.

Feedback / Is it Polish forum or foreign forum? [159]

Are we really talking about Ironside and Ziemowit here?

Those two classy Poles that can't stomach the Brit expats that have invaded the PF with their "Brilliance".
Everyone seems to get along with the Polish posters here except the Brit Bullies.
The Polish posters get along with everyone except the Brit Bullies.
Nobody gets along with the Brit Bullies except other Brit Bullies.
See the pattern.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

Ugly guys from the West have generally no chance in their home countries to find decent local women so they come to Poland and other Eastern countries where a lot of chicks go for just ANYbody as long as the guys are from the West.

Normally you write stupid things but this time you are spot on, brilliant!

I have to agree with you on that one Ktos, she did nail it this time.
A lot of young guys just out of the nest expect their mates to take over where mama left off.
They are looking for a mother to pamper them not a soul mate as an equal.
Same with women just out of the nest, they are looking for a man to pamper their whims just like daddy did.
Problem is that most young guys just starting out don't make that kind of jingle to keep up with daddy.
There are three stages in marriage, first one is love, second one is lust, and the third one is money.
It's what keeps the world spinning.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Just shows that Johnny's full of nonsense, as he clearly doesn't know anyone in Poland that supports gun ownership

Just got my last e-mil back from my Polish friends,
ALL of them.....100% of them said they would support such legislation but since delphie is an authority that I don't know anyone in Poland let's pretend that he is right even though he is not.

My wife is a far better shot than me, for instance.

So you do have one ?

I could get one if I wanted...

So you don't have one ?
Someone is lying.
