News / Pawel Adamowicz, Gdansk mayor, dies after stabbing [354]

Adamowicz stole millions

If only the public prosecutors had your vast legal knowledge and your enviable store of evidence...

couldn't wave offf few thousands in debts to old sick couple.

a couple hundred thousand according to one account... why could solidarity or pis raise the money if they cared so much?

Dude who cares at this point?

I think it's an interesting question - there's a lot of how the PRL worked (or didn't work) in practice that's been forgotten. I'm always interested in how social systems work. It's intellectual curiosity rather than any kind of political motivation.

and 300,000 Poles were nomenklatura with immunity from normal arrest

yeah, what I mean might be referred to as non-party nomenklatura... they definitely existed, but no one except me seems very interested in them

I doubt that Wilmont came from that background

I'm assuming his background is rough working class (or as rough as working class gets in Poland, which is not very...) or margines / patologia...

But the message was against the party, not the person he killed. He clearly articulated his motivation as revenge against a particular political party, which brings up the question... where on earth would he get the idea that PO was full of criminals and that the justice system under them was hopelessly corrupt?

It was a politically motivated hate crime (committed by a crazy person off his meds).

Oddly enough, many of them grew up in party backgrounds

Has anyone researched what I call the semi-party people? I mean any cursory look at the PRL makes it clear that in addition to official party members there was a group of people with informal contacts (sort of insulation between the party and non-party members).

It's clear that JK came from that kind of background (his biography makes no sense otherwise)

How big was this... insulation group.... what did they get from the arrangement and what did they give?

I can understand that the people themselves (and their descendants) don't want too much publicity but it's a really understudied area in understanding how the PRL actually functioned .

I'm also unclear if there was a similar situation in other countries....

How is Owsiak responsible for arrangements at an event he did not appear at? Your mind is very flexible in trying to find ways to blame him... the Simone Biles of trolling.

why Owsiak criminal is still free?

you are so effing transparent, not one drop of sympathy for the victims just excuses for the killer and blaming everyone else for his actions... do you even have a mirror in your house?

News / Pawel Adamowicz, Gdansk mayor, dies after stabbing [354]

If you dig long enough you can find mental problems with almost all criminals... do you want to close all prisons? there's no evidence that the killer of Adamowicz had any condition severe enough to exculpate his criminal actions until his schizo diagnosis in 2016 (again about the time that particular illness manifests) long after the criminal actions that had gotten him imprisoned in the frist place.

Now... I have no concern for him whatsoever, as long as he's never free again they can dope him to the gills for the rest of his misbegotten life.

So now you're a fan of wyborcza? Anyway, nothing there contradicts the source I posted. So I still win, I'm done with this, be happy with your murderer friend (maybe you can become pen pals). I'm more worried about the emotional wreckage he's inflicted on others...

W młodości był leczony w Poradni Zdrowia Psychicznego.

Nothing about a diagnosis of schizophrenia... he had other problems too, big deal I don't care none of it excuse him (though your devotion to him his almost touching)

that he was diagnosed and treated for schizophrenia for years,

source? the only source I found indicated he was first diagnosed as schizo while in custody in 2016... he had other developmental and emotional problems but those don't excuse his carefully thought out crimes

hes actions that are results of hes paranoia

Again the order is wrong, he wasn't a mentally ill person damaged by prison but a criminal by choice who manifested schizophrenia some time after being incarcerated (and then moved to a mental institution)

he chose a life of crime and then manifested schizophrenia - not the reverse

no..severely mental ill person cannot be criminal..

Sorry, you're whole passionate defense of this guy (where's the sympathy for his victims?) has been destroyed. This wasn't a case of a poor mentally ill person being damaged in prison - it's a case of a criminal who chose the gangster lifestyle and carried it out until he was caught and then happened to be later diagnosed with schizophrenia (at about the age (mid 20s give or take a few years) it usually manifests itself and then kept in the type of institution you claim he should have been in except that he was let out far too soon....

His illness is in no way a justification for his murder of Abramowicz (again, carefully planned).
I don't care if he spends the rest of his life in a prison, secure mental institution or a septic tank - he has no business ever being free again....

the "blogger" [redacted], who has been spouting all sorts of hate directed at Owsiak for years

A reprehensible soulless cretin - he reminds me of a number of posters here.... He clearly wants to be famous so I suggest we don't use his name here... deprive him of the attention he craves.

my bet, state is just cutting costs..

So I take it you support a massive tax increase to fund a system of institutions to keep the violently mentally ill off the streets.... because... I don't care how mentally ill he was, everything he was put in prison for was carefully planned...

Is it true that there might be a political motive behind it?

The charity event he was appearing at has.... not been popular with the government (to the point where government tv blurred out an image of its symbol last year)

He was yelling how the former ruling opposition party 'tortured' him after he stabbed the mayor.

He somehow had a press pass... (hmmmmmmmmmmm)

e didn't look beaten up when he was being brought down the stairs from the stage.

One witness said he seemed proud of himself right after the stabbing when he was claiming to have been tortured... madness is very scary.

the whole problem is that by the time anyone noticed he was on stage it was already too late... he ran on stage while giant sparklers were going off and stabbed the mayor before anyone realized anything was amiss.... I'm still wondering when/where/how he had a press pass

hola..braking someone arm and face until person gets convulsion

very fitting, that you identify so strongly with the mentally ill killer and not at all with the victims....

Janina Ochojska, reacting to Owsiak's resignation (since he's the focus of so much negativity)
translations are mine (done in a hurry)

"To nie Ty jesteś jego obiektem, tylko dzieło, które tworzysz"
"It's not you that's the object of hate, but the work that you do"

"Jurek, nie możesz brać na siebie tego, co się wydarzyło. Hejt, nienawiść i groźby, z którymi walczysz od tylu lat, nie ustaną z powodu Twojego ustąpienia"

"Jerry, you can't blame yourself for what happened. The hate, hatred and threats you've fought against for so many years won't stop just because you've resigned"

"Jednoczysz ludzi wokół czegoś, co jest wspaniałe. Łatwiej jest rządzić ludźmi podzielonymi, którzy się nienawidzą"
"You unite people around something that is wonderful! It's easier to rule over people who are divided, who hate each other"

i was just wondering what he meant when he said he was innocent and locked in prison.

Most criminals lack empathy and don't understand that they've done anything wrong... read up on him, he decided a gangster lifestyle would be cool and briefly went after the high life and blamed everyone but himself when it went wrong.... typical criminal mindset.

yes,,, shame on Owsiak scammer.hes greed was to blame.

He's raise how much money for sick children? What have you ever done for other people? WOSP was valuable in that it was a citizens initiative not controlled by the government or church - a rarity in Poland, a country which needs more civic virtue.

. I'm sure there will be more of hysterical yapping and finger pointing

Well Krystyna Pawlowicz has shown a remarkable lack of basic human emotions, blaming Owsiak for inciting hatred along with some loser blogger guy with not a single word of sympathy for the victim... and she calls herself a Christian?!

At least most of the establishment (Duda, Morawiecki etc) have been making appropriate comments.

followed the law about organising mass event

One of the dirty little secrets of 'security' companies is that they're not actually supposed to do anything - their presence is necessary for insurance purposes but they're usually instructed to not try to apprehend anyone...

Somebody should have been there with a taser to take this loser guy out as soon as he took out the knife... From one witness report I'm thinking he was on something (jacked himself up to get the nerve).

The real question now is how did he have a media pass?

possibly aggravated by non-stop PiS attacks against the judicial system (enough to make the worst criminal think they'd been unfairly treated.....)

To be clear, I'm pretty sure this will turn out to be a case of severe mental illness... (which largely goes untreated in Poland for budget and social stigma reasons) but just an awful thing - I'm hoping this makes WOSP stronger.
