Law / Weapons laws in Poland. Carrying a concealed handgun? [918]

Your "gun facts" graph about the U.K. is ridiculous

Well the basic problem is that gun possession and violence arne't necessarily the same thing, London has topped NYC's murder rate for two months in a row! but no guns! stabbings.... yay????

Heck of a job Khanie, one. heck. of. a.... jobbb.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

Ha and what exactly has the West given Poland besides headaches, homosexuality, and threats

What else does Poland want?

They coulsnt even honor a defense treaty when Poland was invaded and send help... some 'allies'.

Yes, they didn't respond when Germany invaded while the Soviets liberated Poland! Long live the eternal friendship between Poland and the Soviet Union

friendship

Traitor or a Kremlin Troll, same thing.

The type who would have convinced himself in 1944 that the Russians were Poland's future...

An ingrate who doesn't appreciate anything the west has to offer Poland (and despite its many flaws it has more to offer than Russia has because all Russia can offer Poland is a return to PRL style vassaldom...

I'm Polish born and raised,

Meh... you don't live here and keep making excuses to not do so.... you're a plastic pole (as they used to say) who uses unearned and undeserved citizenship to make up for your lack of real commitment to the country (you mainly view as a vehicle for you weird ideological rants)

News / Israel opposing potential new Polish law to criminalise term 'Polish death camps' [1539]

If they don't know about it, they can't be blamed for not caring (so they make sure to stay ignorant of it).

Lyzko should watch this movie, the visuals are authentic film taken at the time (computer colorized).

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powstanie_Warszawskie_(film)

It's on youtube for free (and it will help his Polish).

but you're ok accusing the majority of Poles of betrayal and antisemitism?

He wants Polish people to accept the same kind of collective guilt that Germans do, once they say "We're all guilty!" he's ready to be magnanimous.

He wants to be as kind to Polish people as he is to Germans... but he can't until they declare that all Poles share collective guilt for the holocaust.

It's kind of like church were God loves you and will forgive you.... as soon as you admit your sins and ask for forgiveness.

News / Thousands of Polish women attend Czarny Piątek rally in Warsaw [780]

for bearing the opinion that "transsexual" women are in fact not real women, but men without dicks

At the chromosonal level, she's completely right (no operation changes chromosones) But modern third wave feminism is all about retreat into traditional feminine pursuits like regulating social interactions (intersecionality, microagressions and the like) and maintaining that women are inscrutable emotional creatures whose communication requires careful interpretation...

Will you please stop blaming the victim and justifying the assaulter, Lyzko?

He's not going to give up until you take on the new semi-official Russian line that Poland began WWII and therefore is ever more guilty than Germany.

He desperately wants Polish people to feel collective guilt for the holocaust, the fact that they don't drives him crazy.

Poland might well draw a lesson here.

So restrictions on free speech are good? What do you think about the dankula case?

Life / Which nations do Poles like the most / the least? [150]

It's a 'friendship' based on very little meaningful

history, which is very meaningful

back in the 1997 floods, Hungarian charities started collections to help and they were surprised at how large the response was

The Hungarians I know are either positive (or at most mixed) about Orban, they don't take the pro-Russian rhetoric very seriously

they just don't care one way or the other.

that's mostly right, but when you ask now a lot of young people have a favorable opinion of the Czechs and barely know who the Slovaks are anymore (Polish Slovak freindship was more based on dislike of Czechs which has mostly disappeared since the end of communism)

agreed

But even a Scot living in Poland should be aware of the old amity between Poles and Hungarians

most of the time it doesn't come up so it's more theoretical than real, they certainly aren't enemies like the Russians but most people don't think of them much one way or another...

in my experience Poles prefer Slowaks over Czechs

In theory for political reasons.... but a lot of Polish people like Czech movies, Czech beer and Prague and Slovakia can't compete.

I'm wondering where "Palestinians" came form on this, Polish people never talk about Palestnians....

Leave us here not debate the sheer idiocy of what's the difference between Jews killing Nazis vs. Nazis killing Jews,

That's not what anyone is 'debating' the question is do Poles who were complicit with the nazis have a greater burden of guilt than Jews who cooperated with nazis?

My take: six of one half a dozen of another

feeling a collective "remorse", if not indirect responsibility, for the horrors of Southern slavery??!

feeling bad that it happened is normal, feeling responsibility for it is abnormal (and sign of an ego out of control)

placing Nazi crimes on the SAME scale of moral guilt with those of Nazim's victims

rather like the insistence of some Israelis that Poles (in general) were complicit in nazi crimes....

You probably

That whole post makes no sense.... try again.

You're simultaneously trying to excuse any Jewish behavior and instill feelings of collective guilt in kaprys and that's a very nasty thing to do.

No human being born in 1945 or after should feel one shread of collective guilt for the holocaust, it's unhealty and morbid and sick. Sadness that it happened? Yes. Guilt? No.

News / Goodbye Sunday Shopping in Poland - Hello Electoral Reform [246]

shelves at my local biedronka were literally empty - just one day off ....

This is a remnant of the collective trauma of trying to shop during the communist period (esp mid to late 70s through 1988). Buying food was an exhausting ordeal and meant standing in long lines every single day (or going the more expensive private route or black marketish or underground trade networks). People that grew up with that pass the siege mentality to their children. As I always say, closed stores make Polish people very nervous.

Partly this is the result of communist incompetence (communism in practice fossilizes and institutionalizes incompetence that could never survive otherwise) and partly the general communist aversion to 'over production' (thanks to which we can find things when we need them rather than call a friend of a friend of a cousin who can get his hands on towels (which haven't been in stores for three years).

That said, this law is abou 17th on the list of things to go after PiS for, you could even make the case that regular days without shopping (and the world not coming to an end) is the best way to ease people off the trauma.

The EAW system means that the extradition is supposed to be automatic - as long as the paperwork is correct

Nope. After Belgium stonewalled Spain in the Puigdemont case, that's dead in the water. Any other country will simply delay until they can't anymore or the country issuing the warrant gives up.

As for the supermarkets in Berlin stations, these are open

This wasn't in the station across the street and a couple of minutes by foot a little farther (kind of under railroad tracks or a road IIRC) kind of grimy and loud but open, so hooray.

They're mostly closed? I remember arriving in Berlin once on Sunday afternoon and being surprised/disappointed that most stores were closed, though I did find a kind of supermarket open not far from Zoo station.

Stop stirring things.

Like the gigantic fire in your posterior?

Wasn't there a scandal about that organisation?

Answer: No, no there was not. Pending new evidence..... Case closed! (so that a special international firefighting team can be assembled to try to stop the smoke billowing out of the back of your pants).
