no - the question is not stupid if you take into account that if the question was answered as intended by PiS it would be a binding law (unless a new referendum on the topic is held) which would mean next governments would not be able to raise the retirement age just like that

sure - they were influenced - but they were offered a choice to alter their reality - for example ban immigrant relocation from other EU countries (they could choose not to say NO) - they could also say yes to "Let's allow other governments to make us work longer" - they also could choose "Who cares about privatisation of state assets" - I myself share the views of PiS on all of these issues - and I am quite convinced that there are hundreds of thousands of voters who consciously share those views and chose to try to impose their views as binding by law - I said hundreds of thousands not millions because I'm not sure every single PiS voter consciously decided that the referendum answers promoted by PiS conform with their views - btw there were over a hundred thousand people (the attendence at the refferendum was a couple per cent higher than PiS result) more who voted in the referendum despite not voting for PiS - do you think these people acted as sheeple?

you can work as long as you want under current law as far as I know - retiring at 65 is not compulsory and many people choose to work longer - but if you wish other people should work as long as you plan to then you are a communist/fascist etc

yes, indeed it would be clearer - you got me here (your Citizen X could readily choose one of the options) - however the effective outcome if the referendums passed would be the same as with the question that was actually asked (I guess PiS chose the wording for the referendum to have a simple layout for their supporters (4 X NO))

why not - they can - althought the alternatives would be suboptimal to them - they can always choose to abstain too (they still have choice) - it's like a choice in the supermarket - you would like to buy strawberry buttermilk but you can only find strawberry yoghurt and plain buttermilk (you can always choose not to buy either) - you can't always have it all

or another analogy - I would like the leftist parties in Poland (Lewica and PiS) to join forces (let's say after PiS abandons more extreme religiously guided policies and Lewica abandons their radical pro-European stance) - so what?: they are not ready or willing to (despite people like Rafał Woś calling for it)

edit: however there is kind of a solution to your problem - democratic at that - the citizen X can campaign for another referendum on the subject with exactly the questions that they deem necessary to achieve their dreemed outcome - who knows maybe there are enough people in the country who would support their (citizen's X) quest

it's more of a philosophical question - the true question will emerge when there is a plan to centralize the EU will go into voting in the Europarliament on 25th of November which abolishes the right of member states to veto new legal proposals and how the new government (most probably under Tusk) will to react
