News / Achievements of the Tusk's Polish government [532]

It is really incredible. I cannot understand how people who have learnt to speak and write decent English (which requires some intelligence, after all) can be such imbeciles.

Fascinating post. Looks like you aren't intellectually capable to comprehend that economy is not a zero-sum game. You don't have to raise tax rates to generate more income for a public sector, creating better opportunities for business (making law simple, reducing bureaucracy, reducing corporativism, fighting corruption, adjusting education system to the market's requirements etc.) you can achieve the same without additional costs for taxpayers. The same with reduction in spending. It doesn't mean that pensioners must be starved to death. Public sector in Poland is very ineffective thus very expensive. It would be possible to significantly reduce the costs without much problems for the individuals. Individuals can spend their money one way or another. One person invest 1000PLN in foreign language classes, another one waste it on alcohol or lose it in casino. It's the same with governments. Government here is a huge waster and nothing is being done about it, maybe except thousands of additional bureaucrats being hired.

Guys, wake up and start working for this country, for fack`s sake!

You think we don't ? What do you base that opinion on ? Please tell.

Comparison:

Moving from "It's all Kaczynski's fault" to "It's all lazy Polish bastards' fault" ? It seems to be a common trend in some circles.

Is it Tusk`s fault?

What ? Thst some workers took a break ?

Anyone who isn't a PO/PiS supporter would agree that the list is pretty fair.

What do you base that opinion on ? Any respected PF members voting SLD/PSL/PJN/UPR ?

I'm still not getting what I was asking for. The list of 5-10 biggest achievements of the current government.

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

*6 million is just the number of murdered and killed Polish citizens*

Not really... don't treat "6 million killed Poles" like "6 million Jews" stuff. It's not clear how many people died... The number of Polish citizens killed during WW2 was estimated by commies after WW2. They said It's 3 million Jews and 3 million Poles with Ukrainians etc. excluded as they were counted as Soviet losses... In my opinion the number of ethnic Poles killed during WW2 (another issue is a definition of an ethnic Poles...) is definitely less than 3 million (more like 2.4-2.5 million and of course not all of them killed by Germans) but the total number of pre-WW2 citizens of Poland killed was much higher than 6 million, in my opinion more like 7 million.

Soviet Union was the driving push of relocating any minority to where they wanted

Weren't decisions about post WW2 "population transfers" made by "Big Three" ?

History / Old communist leaders still buried in Merit Cemetery in Powązki [17]

I've got some doubts over Bierut and Gomułka as these are in fact some kind of monuments, not the ordinary tombs but generally dead commies are not the problem of Poland, unlike living commies and generally the "elite" ruining this country.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

What would you suggest?

An investigation run by NATO HQ with aviation experts from all the major member states ? I don't believe Russians wouldn't agree If Polish government demanded that immediately after the crash as It would look suspicious.

You know, it's a *joint* investigation.

Really ? I thought there was a Russian one and a Polish one, which besically is meaningless as they still don't have access to many crucial evidences and others get with months of delay.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

That doesn't explain why the pilot descended below 100m when he wasn't cleared to do so. Nor does it explain why he attempted a landing when the conditions weren't suitable in the first place.

Isn't it all clear that Kaczynski pushed the pilot away and was landing by himself, so It's all his fault ?

News / Polish Lithuanian Diplomatic War? At last. [533]

1. Stop imposing fines for using Polish in the streets.

A really good post, I agree with most of it* but look at the points in case of Lithuania - they mostly include legal/government related issues, things which could be quickly changed (and definately should be changed according to legal documents Lithuanian government signed) and these problems haven't been solved only because of bad will of Lithuanian authorities... In case of Poland these are mostly things like "be more sensitive", "stop patronizing" etc. Well, maybe that is what should happen but It's like comparing a guy, who is breaking the law with a guy, who is lacking good manners. 2 different things.

* the only part which I find really out of place is Karta Polaka argument, The Karta thing was created for people from Ukraine, Kazakhstan etc. Poles from Lithuania can live and work in Poland without It, so I am not surprised that they aren't very interested in it, they simply don't need It.

look the point is union of lublin had borders separating two countries and the border was west of bialystok there fore Poland was occupying force as it annex part of Lithuania.

Didn't the 3rd May Constitution merge the federation into a single state without any internal borders ?

look grzegorz stop spinning, Poland did not occupy vilno by itself but fast region of Lithuania land with majority in population of Lithuanians.

Hmm I admit I don't know the exact figures for the whole region annexed by Poland but so far I have thought that Poles were by far the largest group there, please correct me If I'm wrong.

Poland did occupied Lithuanian land and oppress Lithuanian inhabitance that is it and you cannot spin the fact other way.

Well, one could argue that a city with population in 65% Polish and in 2% Lithuanians should have been rather a part of Poland, not Lithuania... but let's say that Poland did occupied Lithuanian land and oppressed Lithuanians, not only in 20's and 30's but for centries, in Commonwealth times Lithuanians were opressed, marginalized and humiliated by Polish bustards, allright evil we. Now what does It have to do with treatment of Polish minority there in the 21st century ? Do you agree that now Lithuanians can as a revange ignore the European standards of minority rights ?

Anyway, the average PiS voter fully supports bashing Lithuania.

How do you know what average PiS voter think about this issue ? What that, or PiS itself, has to do with this issue anyway ? A fact is that in times of previous government Poland had a very good relations with Lithuania, now has "worst in Europe" as one of the prominent members of the current government said.

We are talking about a conflict between Polish and Lithuanian governments over the treatment of Polish minority in Lithuania. You may either agree that Lithuanian government is at fault or a Polish one, or partly both. What you are saying, however, is that It's "Polish xenophobes" fault, Gazeta Polska, PiS and whatever else you were probably told by some "enlightened" Poles is "evil", when these people are not an active side in this conflict.

Or is this just another myth posted by convicted liars at Gazeta Polska?

What are you talking about ? This issue is heated up by "enlightened" Tusk's "government". What's more, they do that only in order to cover their pathetic results of "governing" Poland with other problems.

You are overlooking one "tiny" problem here. That wouldn't benefit Poland and would ethnically cleanse Poles from traditionally
Polish areas on Kresy. Not the best of your ideas, Grzegorz.

Not really.
1. Out of these 2 million jobless people, no more than half are really jobless, the rest either work illegally or don't want to work. If only a rule that one has to either be legally employed (or be a child/husband/wife of somebody legally employed) or has to have a status of a jobless person to get access to free health care was revoked, at least 200-300k "jobless" people would immediately disappear.

2. There's a huge regional diversity in case of unemployment rate in Poland. Some areas have a very high unemployment rate but in others It's much easier to find a job than in most of Western Europe, some people are moving there from poorer areas but many can't due to family situation etc.

3. Demographic trends. A few years ago the situation on the labor market was very difficult as the generation of "baby boom" from early 80's was seriously increasing the size of work force and despite many new jobs being created, the unemployment rate was growing, that was also the reason why "exodus" was so huge but It's over, since 2 year more people have been coming back than moving out. Now the situation is drastically changing, soon many more people will be getting retired every year than joining the labor market. Even with modest economic growth we will be running out of wrokers in 10 years, with high growth It will happen no later than in 5 years.

What's then ? Import Pakistanis ? No, thank you. I would much more preffer Polish speaking people from ex-Soviet Union.

It was the Grand Duchy of Lithuania spanning from the black sea to the Baltic sea.

They seized all those lands after they were riuned by Mongol invasions. They didn't have enough manpower to keep them on their own for too long. If you compare the potential (economy, military etc.) of Poland and Grand Dutchy in that time It is at least 2:1 for Poland.

I'm not saying that they should be eternally grateful for the union, It was a win-win situation for both side and that's how It is now treated by Polish history. It's them, who talk sh*t about "Polish occupation".

They along with Hungary have enacted laws that try to draw equivalence between the Nazis and Soviets in terms of genocide.

And what's wrong with that... ?

What do you mean "ignore them."

I mean don't start any diplomatic war with them, we've got members in the Euro Parliament, If Lithuania is breaking EU laws, they should speak up and force EU institutions to react. Politicians in Warsaw shouldn't start any war, just start treating them like one of many small European countries, no government level visits several times a year anymore.

they would be more than happy to ship their entire
Polish population to Poland

So let's make them happy. Is Poland overpopulated ? Or is Lithuania ? Both countries are in a very difficuly demographic situation. There's few better things for Poland than bringing to Poland Polish people educated for foreign money. All Poles from ex-Soviet countries should be encouraged to do that.
