Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [425]

Stubborn, materialistic, xenophobic, homophobic, envious, crafty, patriotic, hospitable, hard working, traditional, conservative, gossiping, short tempered, polite to strangers

That might just be the best post you ever made on PF.
Spot on Dirk!

Life / Child abuse in Poland [64]

It would seem that the government has doubled the sentence for child abuse to 30 years

Sounds good to me.
But as you say, they need to enforce this law.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

Do you suggest that Johhny who reads such instructions is a bad boy?

No.
It suggests that he doesn't know how to cook without following instuctions.
Instructions on a packet food I might add.
Most of us learnt to cook by either being shown or from written recipes.
Sometimes it worked, sometimes it failed.
But in the end we learnt how to cook.
I only use timings as a rough guideline and NEVER measure ingredients.
I go with the flow, check on how my dish is cooking and taste at intervals (though that sometimes kills my appetite. .... :-( )
Cooking is an art.

The only Polish food that I fall victim to is Poland's different Excellent sausages.

Have to disagree here Johnny, after music, sausages are one of my greatest loves :-)
I think that German and Polish sausages are pretty equal.
They are both superb because you can boil them, fry them, grill them, BBQ them, toss them in a stew and many of them can be eaten cold!

Czech,Slowak and Alsation are also very good.
But Poles and Germans are not so good with the dry, cured, salami style sausages.
Here, The French, Italians and Spanish rule.
I love French saucisson sec, but Hungarian salami is to die for....... especially the paprika infused ones.
Of course, none of these are good for you if eaten excessively.
So moderation and enjoyment should be key words.

News / There is no Poland without the Church! [178]

Outside center always tend to impose kind of globalistic thinking on believers and deny local specifics

Blimey,Crow, you found yourself agreeing with me on an earlier post and now I find myself agreeing with you.....
Maybe we have some common ground after all.

In my experience it was always pork or chicken.
But I didn't live in Communist Poland, so when we had Kotlet, they were always delicious.
Interestingly, Persians ( called Iranians now) also have Kotlet.
I wonder ir that has any Polish influence, from the war years?

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

when I read car fora, I see that some guys are still able to repair their advanced cars at home

No longer possible.
Except for the most basic repairs, car owners can no longer repair their own cars.
Unless they are very old.

I don't really want to continue this daft thread, but Maf, you coaxed me into it.....
Bread is Polish if it is Polish bread.
Potatoes are never Polish.
Unless they are very boringly boiled and served with a sprinkling of dill on them.....

Raviolis are Italian and big raviolis look like pierogi....:-)

Haddock livers look like Cod livers..... :-)

so why do you suddenly claim one is Poljsh and the other not? :):

Because that is quite simply the case :-)
Enough already.
