I care and you care but most Ruskies don't care. Zelensky won the 2019 Ukraine election on a pro-EU ticket and alignment with the West and Putin invaded because of that.

All systems of government can degenerate, we know as much since Aristotle at least. The transformation of nobility democracy into the oligarchy that finally brought the collapse of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was a process that lasted 3 centuries. However during the 16th Century Polish system of government allowed for division of power, political participation and rule of law on a level unmatched by any other system in our region.

The tragedy was the Commonwealth fell the moment it started to fix its government, overcome the corruption of the regime - the reformer faction that brought the Consistution of 3rd May 1791 proved to be too weak to defend it against the imperial neighbours. If the Constitution survived many aspects of public life - including the exploitation of peasants and underdevelopment of cities - would have to change. Especially with the revolution happening in France.

Alas, we lost our chance and had to wait another 123 years until another opportunity would arise.

At the beginning of the war, how did you anticipate it would unfold? I assumed that Russia would quickly conquer Ukraine, besiege Kyiv, and despite militarily defeating Ukraine, they would encounter a huge problem establishing a pro-Russian government or achieving full-blown annexation. Dozens of millions of Ukrainians would flee to the west, with Poland and the Baltic states becoming full of extremely long refugee camps. Most of the remaining population would engage in guerrilla warfare at this moment. They would make Russian occupation very costly but wouldn't be able to defeat Russia.

If someone had said that, despite adopting mobilizations, Russia using thermobaric weapons, hypersonic missiles, and only avoiding nukes due to the fear of the end of the NPT, which is not in the interest of other nuclear-armed countries, they would only conquer about 15% of Ukrainian territory even after Ukraine stopped receiving US aid for months, I would call that person crazy optimistic.

In 1989 thinking in terms of conspiracy theories was as popular as today, so I'm sure some cynical people commented "ah, those Poles and their desire for freedom! How naive! Poland is just a fool tool for some very different designs!"

But the fact is, today we're more free and prosperous than we've ever been before 1989. If some nefarious plans were realised thanks to us reclaiming independence, so be it. If somebody's happiness depended on our subjugatjon, fu*ck them with a sharp stick. We don't owe this fu*cks a thing.

So, I am very happy that America finally pulled its head out of its ass and granted Ukraine another aid package.

Even better that the aid got some bipartisan support. This gives hope that aid will continue after the elections, no matter who wins.

It is also worth noting that the US finally made the decision to use Russian frozen assets to finance Ukrainian defense. So the Russian assets will be liquidated and money acquired put to good use. No return to business as usual once this war is done. Hopefully the EU does the same.

Finally, its worth noting that during the period when USA was stalling military aid from Europe increased. Czechia is realising its big ammo supply program, France is going to deliver more than 70 Caesar artillery systems, also the West is working to provide Ukraine with up to 7 additional Patriot batteries. And training of F-16 pilots from Ukraine continues.

None of this means some miracle weapon or a game changer, like the Russkies like to joke about. However it means delivering Ukraine much needed capabilities to defend themselves. Hopefully we'll be able to do it as long as it takes for the Russian bear to fu*ck off.

In my opinion, Mazurek wasted a bit of an opportunity. Instead of fixating on a few questions that he kept repeating, constantly getting the same diplomatic answer, he could have grilled the ambassador on a larger number of topics, there would have been no impression of repetition and it would have been easier to demonstrate the interlocutor's hypocrisy.

Towards the end, he even allowed the ambassador to counter-offensive and had to defend himself against mocking questions about Lebanon.
