News / Polexit? Almost half of the Poles believe that Poland would be better off outside of the EU [548]

it opened the eyes for many Poles about the true intentions and goals of the "EU core"

You are spot on in your analysis mate!

Will be tough to convince people that those outweigh making a richer, safer, healthier, and having more opportunities

I don't think so.
People in favour of the EU give far too much weight to economic "benefits" and "opportunities", there is a huge world outside of the restricted, stagnant EU.

Poland is not ready to leave the EU just yet but when the success of the UK post Brexit is seen, it will embolden them to consider leaving too...... and then the whole deck of cards that this false union has been created upon will start to collapse.

This is the beginning of the end of the EU..... a failed project because people pushed too hard....

@TheOther
Yeah, but remainers said it would happen before we left.It didn't...

, this will be the first in a long line of bailouts

You are just one in a long line of remainers that continue to believe the worst will happen..... so far you have been wrong every time.....

See you in 5 years when the UK is hunky dory and Europe is struggling.....

..it will be just a tad harder now....

Nah, it will be easier without EU constraints.

You lot are just $hitting yourselves.... because you know that The UK will be fine......

UK, Ireland / Moving from Ireland to Poland [39]

most Poles who go to Ireland are motivated almost entirely by money

And you can add England, Scotland and Wales,....
There is an old saying, and I think there is some truth in it.
"Poles know the cost of everything and tbe value of nothing"..
This is not true of most Poles, but many are guilty of this.

they will be leaving in droves or going bankrupt

Pro EU supporters told us this would start happening soon after we voted to leave.
Over 3 years later it still hasn't happened.
Flybe's problems have nothing to do with Brexit and Sterling is doing fine thanks.

your interpretation is incorrect - they said it could do better outside the EU.

That is the same thing.............and Britain won't make a pigs ear of it because whatever arrangement we do or don't make with the EU will make very little difference either way.

The important thing is not the deal or no deal we get from the EU but what Britain does in the years to come.
The most important thing is that it will be down to Britain to succeed or fail.

You can be as fluent as a native in a foreign language but very few people master the skill of hiding their accent.
If I speak a sentence of words in Polish that I am very familiar with, with Poles, I can pass as Polish.
If i use words that I am not so familiar with, Poles hear my accent.
They are not always sure what it is but often guess it is British.
When I speak French to French people that I don't know they will not believe that I am British.
They usually think that I am Belgian or sometimes Swiss or Alsatian.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

@cms neuf

Hybrids are really taking off in the UK.
Not so much total electric cars.
Electric "refuelling" stations are springing up all over.
I think we need to make one more jump on battery power for electic cars to take off and a British inventor may have just done that.

Baltic was named as Serbian ocean /Oceanus Sarmaticus

You are a pathetic nationalist and dreamer..... some ancient Poles thought we were descended from Sarmatians.
This has never been proven.
And Serbs were not included in that club.
Now B off you silly man!

Study / 90% of Poles have university degree? [57]

God knows why you are talking about British and US universities

Because these are the people that most Polish graduates have to compete against when they move to Britain or America for better prospects.
Unfortunately, when they get here they find that 50% of the population now have degrees as opposed to 10% 40 years ago.
Degrees have been so dumbed down that they are worth less than 3 A levels 40 years ago, or the French and Polish equivalent the Bac.
So many very bright young Poles find that they have to start at the bottom and work their way up.
Tough, but not such a bad thing if they can learn on their way up.

Why are you people assuming that she doesn't want/need to learn as much Polish as quickly and thoroughly as she can?

Because Polish is a bloody difficult language to learn.
I am fluent in English, French and Polish and can get by, just about in German.
I can write in English and French but am still scared to write in Polish.
It is one of the most difficult European languages to learn.

Real Estate / Carpetying style? - question to Brits living in Poland [26]

Wall to wall carpeting is a very British thing. I have even seen carpets in British bathrooms!
Poles, like most Europeans are not so mad on wall to wall carpeting, Preferring rugs instead.

You're better off hiring an older person than these lazy millennials

Yeah, my experience has proven to me that an older, experienced, non graduate is much better than a young graduate.
When I went to school only 10% of students went to Uni.
Now it is about 50%, so the value of a degree has greatly diminished.

@Irish1234

You need to remain open minded and accepting.
Some things in Polish attitudes and culture are very similar, especially with the older Catholic generation.
But you will find many attitudes that may even shock you.
Many of them caused by years of Communist rule.
But not all.
There is more racism in Poland than in Ireland.
But when it comes to party time, celebrations and drinking, you will feel quite at home.... :-)
