"Standard English",

That's a grammar term to describe the way English is used in most of the world.

About pronunciation, there's RP however nowadays people tend to refer to modified RP.

your native pronunciation/accent is from the Liverpool area

Not that region; Lerpool has a distinct catch to the vowel sound in those words, largely through influence from Ireland and Wales.

In most of the U.K. (including RP speakers) the vowel sound in pub and ugly are the same.

Innocent until proven guilty

Unless. And he and his brother will have a chance to plead innocence or guilt very soon.

as far as the UK goes, they have to get their hands on him first

It's a European Arrest Warrant so pretty well automatic. Romania have said though that his forthcoming trial there takes precedence. Should he be acquitted of that, he'll be arrested immediately and brought back to his home country.

This thread isn't just about the creep Tate thought.

He's a trivial figure.

tons of money

Not much use to him when he's sentenced to decades in jail. And of course the compensation to his victims may well leave him penniless.

The prosecutors have recently updated his charges to far more serious ones. It looks like his move to Romania backfired on him.

A toxic individual.

It's also significant that his arrest warrant in England was issued by a particular constabulary; too complicated and in any case off-topic to explain the significance.

men should stop being chivalrous

The age of chivalry is cold in its grave.

I'll not pretend to speak for women, either all women or some. I'd guess though that given a choice of coming second to men or being themselves, the latter is more appealing.

displaying chivalry

The whole "courtly love" thing seems so dated.

He makes a lot of money from it

Made.

He isn't now, being on bail for Human Trafficking.

he is a pimp

Yes he is a pimp and has admitted it.

He even ran an online course that he described as a "Pimpin' Hoes Degree".

Any young man (or more usually teenage boy in the case of his followers) who sees him as any sort of role model ought to take a damn good look at himself.

Romania have said they will not oppose the extradition.

A slight correction to this. Romania says he has to face trial for the current Human Trafficking charges there before he is extradited to the U.K.. Given that there's no statute of limitations in England in cases of sexual offences, he could end up going straight from a long jail sentence in Romania to being on remand before a trial on the islands.

It doesnt take a year to bring people to trial when they are in the country

It often takes much longer, especially in complex cases.

living at home

Under house arrest.

The house arrest has been suspended however he is still unable to leave Romania before his upcoming trial.

Funny how the Tate brothers have had charges dropped isnt it

He is currently on bail in Romania and unable to leave the country. He is also (as of a few days ago) subject to an arrest warrant from the U.K. where he will be extradited. Romania have said they will not oppose the extradition.

Even more strange is that the accusers recanted their stories. But

There were also cases of online harassment and attempts at legal harassment of their victims. They didn't work as the latest warrant shows.

Thats why governments around the world have offered to give him a license to practice when Canada want to reprogram him

What does that even mean?

90% of the firearms owners I know

That's the ones you know.

People in cities do t need such things at all.

One good thing about Poland is that thee are so few of them.

I would think that would disqualify them from any sensible women's consideration

Anyone who idolises (and some of them idolise) that seedy rapist Andrew Tate just comes across as weak, needy and wishing they were as thuggish as their hero. Same with that grifter Peterson, basically Ayn Rand with bad skin.

Followers always look for a leader, and who wants a relationship with a born follower?

1- USA is only part of the world and not a centre of discussion here

Indeed. Life in Europe (and the thread title is about Poland) is quite different.

It would be good if there was more state childcare provided by society though. That's a hot potato in the U.K. too since paying for it privately which many sadly have to is expensive, the amount of childcare vouchers etc is limited and another way women are discriminating against is of course that thanking a career break can damage a career.

Fortunately the move to working from home (for those who ca) will hopefully make that situation easier and of course larger organisations, especially in the public sector, are finally beginn8ng to understand that men can (and should) share child care too.

To read some of the men here, you'd think women were either like this or this with nothing in between and no other options.

News / Military draft coming in Poland? [48]

communist times

I doubt many people want that back.

In 2010, 21 years after communism collapsed

And had been declining for years.

Rightly so.

military training at the university

Was it compulsory?

No wonder it was abolished since it was so evidently unpopular,

men

I'd say it's more that subset of men who are insecure and have very fragile masculinity. The idea of women being subservient to them strokes their ego. The idea of women being assertive and not actually needing their BS reminds them how weak they are.

Get over yourself.

As well you know, avoidance of military service, especially during its final year, was on an industrial scale.

Tell us about your time in the army?

more and more women feel they need to protect themselves against such sick attitude

Quite. Nobody can blame the 50% of society whose aspirations have traditionally been kept down from starting to stand up for themselves.

Regarding why men don't like "hanging out" with women

Some do. It depends on the people involved and the context.

correct. I do not support the leftist radical agenda of

I'm sure the world will get by nicely without your 'support'. You don't have a veto on how other people live.

We're supposed to beat our chests and kill woolly mammoths for dinner while women just tidy things and wait for men to get home so they can spread their legs and be fulfilled.

Is there such an "idea"?

There are certainly injustices and stereotypes about gender however I don't see people thinking that.

feminism that pit men and women

That tends to be second generation feminism. Most of those voices are well over 60 now.

Language / Foreigners speaking Polish - examples. [71]

Between Polish and English there are similar things. Almost no Pole can get /ɔː/ or /ɜː/ anything like right and many struggle with /ŋ/ despite it being very close to ę.

Standard British"

There's no 'standard British' as such, and the term "Standard English" tends to refer to British/Aus/NZ grammar usage and spelling.

Your example of ugly would work better without the h; it's a short and clipped vowel in RP. I would use the same vowel as in wood.

Poles probably can pronounce British far more easily than
American English

Largely yes, however it's worth remembering that the two languages emerged and for most of their history evolved only a few hundred miles apart.

Lol

??

You sound like some one with little practical experience with firearm

Far more than I need or would like.

squat to do with transferring generational wealth in your family

Nor do firearms for 90% of people who use them.

You get your views of actual and mainstream firearm ownership out of a canned meme.

Don't make incorrect assumptions. We're not all urbanites.

definitely influences how we pronounce words

For sure. With the rz sound, it's as near as damn it the same as the /ʒ/ in pleasure.

wORd

I'd pronounce it /wɜːd/, as in nurse or bird.

We have many more schwa-type sounds in American English

Thinking about it, isn't the opposite more true? Or am I just thinking of endings, since in English English, pleasure, teacher, dollar, visitor, colour, all end in schwa.

Having guns has nothing to do with genitals

Yeah, right....

proper use

You're right about endangering others.

I'd add that killing animals or birds for anything other than food, self defence or on compassionate grounds is not in any sense proper use.

News / Military draft coming in Poland? [48]

an unsubstantiated supposition

It isn't an American 'debating club' and in any case you can't adequately dispute it.

Recent can be 40 or 50 years when talking about national policy.

Pawian deliberately ignored your question as he never did military service

One of the majority in PL who avoided it.

You used to be able to pay a doctor to say pretty well anything. One guy I know got an exemption from his national service because he got a doctor sign a statement saying his body contained no bones or arteries.
