Off-Topic / Being a Slav: a blessing or a curse? [199]

I do recognize Poles in London, by looks, but it's more because of clothes and behaviour, than physical features.

No you can tell someone is Polish by looks alone, even if I dress American they still ask where you from. An Austrian man working here in the States stared at me once he knew right away I was European, it shows.

What are there unique in how Slavs look, think and live as a social group?

You can tell just by looking at someone that they're Slavic, I've had a Romanian girl once say to me "I know you're Slavic I'm just not sure from which country precisely". Most Americans know I'm foreign just by looking at me. We think differently from westerners , i think we act more on impulse or feeling. And tend to stick together, especially abroad. In the States Poles live with Ukrainians, Czechs, Slovaks and other Slavs too, socialize.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish Americans mocked in the American media? [226]

It's always like that. The Polish characters are portrayed by non-Polish actors, like probably Wysocki in The Chicago Code.

Or like Marika Dominczyk playing Bernadette in the 40 year old virgin.

Mine main problem with detective Sipowicz is that he is so ugly. He is giving a bad name to all Polish men!

That's just him. What about Detective Jarek Wysocki from Chicago Code?

To me it's just a bunch of dumb nouveau riches who happened to have Italian ancestors.

what about "Basketball Wives" ? the wives of wealthy basketball stars fighting like ghetto trash.

Polish guys look definitely more sexy and are better build and taller . Those Jewish whom I`ve met were all inconspicuous .

Of course all men in my family are 190cm and taller, pretty well built too. Little scrawny Jew boys are jealous.

True Jews control the media in this country any chance they get to mock Poles they take it because of what we in their imagination did to them during WWII. I've read a few article in the last year or two from Jewish survivors who came out and said that most Poles didn't do anything wrong and tried to help them. It's kind of irritating and demeaning that you have to dance the way they want you to or else.

And no I won't be an ass about it, but please for the love of god, don't say Patty to any Irish person. I can't explain it but it just sounds awful - Patrick or Paddy. No other variation is tolerated!

I meant Paddy (misspelling) forgive me i've had a few pints tonight LOL
There are some 40 million Irish Americans in this country i work with a few real Irish nationals who just came over like 5 years ago, really nice people, young entrepreneurs starting their own companies want to make it big in America.

For adults, basically, it's a party day, and that's it. For kids and people who have them it's parades and stuff but with only a very vague national aspect to it. In fact to be honest, in some cases, the curiosity aspect of US marching bands coming over to participate

In America the brave Patty's (or Plastic Patty's if you wanna be an ass about it lol) take the day off from work and party all day long during the late evening everyone drives around honking their horns celebrating it's actually more felt than 4th of July.

For Irish people (I'm not gonna ask my Irish American friends because that's different) but for Irish nationals is St. Patrick's on the same level as your independence day, or is it something different?

One of the impacts Poles had in emigrating to Ireland was showing Irish people what they had and since then.

Yea everyone in Ireland should know it fluently, be proud you have your own language and don't forget it.

USA, Canada / How many Polish citizens left Chicagoland in the past three years? [33]

How many Polish citizens left Chicagoland in the past three years?

Most just moved to the suburbs, not back to Poland.
I just found data from 2005 that there are 800 thousand people of Polish descent in metro Chicago area. " W Chicago mieszka około 800.000 osób polskiego pochodzenia. Według amerykańskich danych oficjalnych, w 2005 r. liczba Polaków w Chicago i okolicach, którym wydano zezwolenie na stały pobyt, spadła o 5,3 proc. w porównaniu do 2004 r. i wyniosła 5,6 tys.
