not sufficiently enthusiastic

The reality is that Rodowicz got Kurski to permit performances by ALL THE PERFORMERS. The PiS authorities have been known to back down when they were in the wrong as with the Warsaw metropolitan plan and who is to submit candidates for the National Judicial Council. But the fanatical spririt of the vehement, vitriolic chant, rant and pound the tarmac hate industry took over and ruled the day.

Indeed, the negativist total opposition are responsible for sabotaging a 50-year-old cultural landmark as they were for disrupting the 1956 Poznań anniversary, memorial masses and other commemorations that have absoltuely nothing to do with their sick ambitions to restore the status quo of their years of post-commie misrule.

Food / What Polish foods do foreigners generally not take to? [115]

head cheese

That's how it's generally known in Americanese. And rightly do, because it mostly contains cut-up morsels of cooked head meat: snout, cheeks, jowls, ears, lips and tongue. (The "cheese" part is similar in word-formation custom to apple butter which contains no butter.) Brawn in common US parlance refers only to a man's (maybe some feminists'?) physical robustness, beefiness, etc. Sometimes contrasted as in "all brawn and no brains". Funny thing, today's yuck generation are turned off by many of the foods discussed here but scarf down hot dogs as if they were going out of style with no thought of what goes into them.

are pulling out

The political hooliganism is spreading. Rodowicz, who went to bat for Kayah, and got Kurski to agree that all invited performers could perform, was mercilessly attacked and blackballed by showbiz fanatics because she appeared on the telly with Kurski to make that announcement. She herslef said she could not stand the poltical pressure and was withdrawing. But the total oppositon are actually doing Poland a service, whilst shooting themselves in the foot. Their disruptive atcivities are showing voters they are only about self-interest, self-importance, arrogance, negativism and restoring their poshy-comfy status quo. They have not only disrupted Smolensk observances but also normal parliamentary proceedings (the Dec. 2016 Sejm putsch), the anniversary of Poznań's 1956 "bread and freedom" riots, the funeral of Doomed Soldiers, a commemoration to Gen. Anders and many other patriotic occasions. Keep it up "total oppositon" and follow KOD and Petru out of the politcal limelight.

traitors

Many of the some 1500 reps of the legal professions at yesterday's Polish Legal Congress in Katowice were rude, booed and provided a classic example of political hooliganism towards invited guest speakers. Some actually stormed out of the hall when they heard the bitter truth about widespread judicial abuses.

Ultimately, it turned out for the best because all Poland could see the arrogance and self-importance many judges regularly display towards citizens seeking justice in the courts.

never a hit

Have we mentioned salceson, simialr to brawn or American headcheese? It's like galareta (zimne nogi) but contains more meat and offal and less gealtin encasement. At delis it gets machine-sliced so it's more of a cold cut than a classic aspic. Do you regard it as a delicacy or turn-off?

Any reliable Polish matrimonial sites?

A reader from the US wanted to know whether there were any reliable Polish matrimonial sites? Preferably in English because, although of Polish ancestry, the enquiring party's 36-year-old son speaks no Polish. I checked out edarling who advertise on television but their site is all in Polish. Any Polish sites available in English? I presume by "reliable" the father meants no ladies looking for a sucker to fleece nor a one-way ticket to America.

choosy about who he employ

Unless in his absence you are trying to take over your guru's LL title or applying for junior liar status, it'd be best to check other people's lies before repeating them.

More political scandal

Anotehr day, another scandalous escapade by the hilariously "total opposition". This time Michnik's rag has awarded the Man of the Year awarded to the EU's chief Poland-basher, that grubby, squat little Timmermans creep. Targowica in action!

Meanwhile, the good-change government continues its repolonisation drive. PGE have annoucned plans to by back French-owned power and heating facilties operating in Poland. The government side creates and builds whilst the opposition undermines and destroys.

I agree, good for lynching. At least we finally agree on something. Except Szechter should also be included. A crypto-politican parading as a journalist.

Suwalszczyna and Galicja

My grandmother was from the Lublin region (Kongresówka) but because of cultural sharing learnt to cook czernina in America from Wielkapolska-born neighbour ladies.

quite the delicacy in 19th century Poland

To this day czernina is best known in Wielkopolska, and Poznań alone has seversal restruants specialising in duck soup (including: hacjenda.poznan.pl/
The reason for its popularity in Polonia is that the first wave of Polish immirgants to America (starting around 1850) came mainly from hte Prussian occupation zone and brought their culinary habits with them. The Kongresiarze and Galony (Galicjoki) followed, as those from Russian and Austrian-ruled Poladn were popularly referred to.

often overcooked?

Never took a survey, but I personally never experienced any being overcooked. Some added a bit of cornflower to the grated-potato mixture which give them a kind of rubbery bounciness. In general however Poles do not fancy al dente pasta and like it to be tender, but not overcooked.

Doesn't sound too appetising

It has a rich, fruity-meaty, lightly spicy taste that defies easy description. It is served over pasta, potato dumplings or just cooked potatoes. A lot of dishes few people would eat if they knew what went into them, like the lowly frankfurter for instance.

English split pea soup

Do the English season their grochówka with marjoram? it's an absolute must for Polish yellow split-pea soup. My late mum-in-law had a trick that no-one could put their finger on but created a exceotionally nice grochówka. She threw in one whole dried Bolete mushroom at the start if the many-hour-long simmering. It didn't make the soup taste mushroomy, only enriched, deepened and enhanced the overall flavour.

P.S. If you're using Word you can find all the world's diacritcal letters in the Insert/Wstaw section of the toolbar -- even Vietnamese and Navajho Indian.

"that Polish taste"

One thing about most Polish soups (broths are exceptions) is a more or less tart flavour. Not only red and white barszcz, brined-cucumber soup and żurek but even mushroom soup, bean, tomato, lentil and pea soup et al.

Poland's most popular fresh herb is chopped dill, the most typically Polish dried herb is marjoram.

chicken sold in stores

American super markets sell something called stewing chicken (mature fatty hens) which are good for soup. In the olden days, peasants and others doing back-breaking work needed every calory they could get and cherished hot rosół with 1/4 inch of golden fat at the surface. Nowadays, it's best to refrigerate the soup over night and remove the congealed fat the next day. But don't chuck it out. Cut into pieces, wrap in cling foil and freeze. Great for frying, making gravy or adding to meatless soups for flavour.

Schecter's elder brother Stefan actually had blood on his hands when his sentences were carried out. What about your unnamed mystery sentencer?

some of his relatives worked as prosecutors

But you're the one that claims there is no family guilt. So the bastard (or illegitimate - if you prefer) Szechter boy is not responsible for his out-of-wedlock father Ozjasz Szechter being one of Stalin's blindly loyal henchmen nor his out-of-wedlock mother Helena Michnik sovietising Polish school textbooks. Still, he was raised in what by the standards of the day was a posh nomenklatura flat visited by family friends with similar Stalinist backgrounds, explaining his soft-on-commies proclivity.

Muslim vermin

On the same level as Stalinist slime and Hitelrite scum. Some humanoids are so odious, evil and disgusting that even the strongest language cannot do justice to their vile criminal behaviour. And remember, just like you trying to whitewash the terrorist scum, there were people who claimed "not all Nazis were bad" and "normal, good people served Stalin, they did it to support their families because there was not other way."

practising Christian

The PZPR and their Trybuna Ludu would routinely lecture the Church on how they should follow "open Catholicism" as in France and elsewhere, in fact Szchter's rag pursues the same general line praising "progressive" Catholics. You apparently identify with the latter and feel entitled to tell Catholics how to practise their faith. Although charity defines the essence of Christianity, there are situations so extreme that other means must be employed. Jesus Himself chased the Jewish money-changers out of the temple and demolished their stalls. Even more so, he said those who scandalise His innocents should have a millstone tied round their neck and get thrown into the sea.

In other words the worst sin is setting a bad example, depraving innocent children. But isn't that what your libertine culture with its one-toilet genderists and LGBT deviates is all about. Brainwash them when they're young and impressionable, and soon there'll be more "fresh meat" on the market.
