News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

circling around Belarus in order to bring him down

He's bringing himself down through a phony election and massive repression against his own people. Only open enemies of Poland can support him...

When you reward the clients - the "refugees" - you are part of the problem as an enabler

Lukashenka is far worse than an enabler, he's scum who would burn his country down to hold onto power.

transport them all to the German border.

Germany is an ally of Poland through both the EU and NATO. Poland does not betray its allies and only an enemy nation would suggest that it would.

Lukashenko will be ousted by the Belorussian

I'm sure he believes that Lukashenka won 80 % of the vote last year.... he's a lost cause.

Belarus helping Poland

And you fail! The truth comes out..... You are not the friend of Poland you pretend to be, you are supporting a country actively attacking Poland.

Down with Lukashenka loving Serbs!

Stop them from entering Belarus so you (editorial) call him cruel and lacking compassion?

No one will criticize him for stopping his involvement in the modern slave trade (aka human trafficking). The flights were his idea.

Why do you defend Lukashenka (aka filthy human trafficker)?

It will always be as leaky as a sieve, if it gets built at all.

Just admit you want them all let in... why do you hate Iraqis so much?

The article below suggests that the refugees may next be sent to Ukraine.

That has been obvious for a long time, a raised the exact point a week or so ago... if the EU isn't already making plans for that entirely predictable option then it's not fit for purpose (or the leadership isn't).

thousands of the people you call "them" will certainly enter Europe one way or another.

Will Europe be better off for it? I severely doubt it.... let's just hope for the best!

Aggression is something to generally avoid

Exactly how aggressive migrants want you to react.

Polish authorities are trying to avoid harm at all cost

But escalation has to be met with escalation.

There are reasons humans try to avoid killing other humans.

At some point aggression has to be met with aggression.

Migrants forcing their way past closed borders is physical aggression (especially since a non-trivial number of them go on to kill citizens once they reach Europe).

do you think it will get better when Europe is taking all their young men in?

Good point, if it were easy for Polish people to leave in the 1960s and 70s then Poland would be like Belarus (or worse) today.

Making Iraq liveable is something only Iraqis can do. If they don't want to bother, then what makes anything think they'll put themselves out for some new country?

Drown people?

Preferably not women and children.... but at some point force is going to be needed. More people want to live in Europe than Europe can let in (without becoming a third world dump as well).

I doubt anything will get 'better' for a long time.

Not with that attitude it won't.

As if nobody's thought of doing that...

Good! They know what to do! It will cut Greek unemployment as well.

Lack of hope.

If there's a lack of hope in Iraq still.... then that's Iraq's problem and not Europe's.

They just sail around the wall.

Marine barriers and patrol boats to send them back (by force if need be)

The risk of death by drowning is for them worth taking.

Lack of judgement, poor future orientation, in other words they have little chance of being anything but criminals or welfare recipients if they ever do reach Europe.

The dysfunction preceded European involvement in Afghanistan and Somali which have always been ultra-violent, low trust, regressive religious train wrecks.

Iraq had more potential but at what point does a country become responsible for itself? If Iraqis can't make their country functional that's on them.

Sadly, it's become normal now.

Doubtless in the 18th century you would have accepted the Atlantic Slave Trade as the new normal....

The International Human Trafficking Industry is pure evil top to bottom and a major source of human misery in the world today. It needs to be eliminated root and branch.

Migration and homo sapiens go together like dogs and bones

Some level of migration has always been normal. The current human trafficking industry is not... and is not sustainable since it's about importing people from dysfunctional failing societies and not asking anything in return. How much failure can Europe import without failing itself?

To a point, however climate change and population growth

Why should Europe pay the price for Iraqi and Afghani and Somali societal failure?

large-scale migration is the future for the next century

It's an unsustainable model. It requires some countries to remain social basket cases so that the excess population can be transported like sacks of potatoes to new, better run countries.

But if recent history is any guide.... most of the new arrivals never really adapt and end up long term welfare pets (or wards of the state if that sounds nicer). Worse yet, they actively undermine and sabotage the process of their children adapting and being assimilated to the new country so that the welfare dependency becomes generational.

The better run countries simply cannot remain better run if they keep up the mass importation of culturally incompatible people. I would think this is blindingly obvious over the last 30, 20, 10, 5 years but those in decision making positions remain as willfully blind as ever.

few rich hyenas in Brussels

The threat to Poland now is not from Brussels but from slavic "brothers" Lukashenka and Putin - both of whom bring disgrace to the idea of slavdom.

a lot of desperate people whose families' life savings have gone on getting them to Belarus for this

and what should Poland (or more to the point.... Germany) do about this?

the more people who can prove they've crossed that way, the more will hear about it and come

Any migrant let in is encouragement for 10 more waiting in the wings....

, not an issue with the abortion laws.

It is absolutely an issue with the abortion laws as mentioned by the unfortunately dead woman herself...

PiS has a history of poorly conceived laws and political actions that often lead to unforeseen bad results in the real world....

The economic and social history of communism has been total disaster and even when a communist dominated society breaks free the damage lasts for decades.

Too many are trying to blame doctors entirely or the idiotic ruling last year entirely.

This is obviously a perfect storm of fvkk-ups with lots of blame to spread around. The doctors should have been pro-active but who can blame them for being cautious given the unpredictable nature of legal enforcement?

PiS never should have forced through the decision (anything who doesn't think last year's decision was delivered upon request is seriously naive).

I blame the doctors and I blame PiS and I blame their phony kangaroo court.

Shame on all of them!

Now, the question is how to prevent this from happening in the future?

Work / Are Poles workaholics? [164]

I must be busy all the time - otherwise I feel uneasy

Me too, I need to keep my mind occupied or I feel uneasy and weird.... but it doesn't have to be busy with work...

Language / Grammar - difference between "jaki" and "co" in Polish language [43]

"Jakiego typu/rodzaju to budynek?"

That seems too much like a translation from English to me... many years ago a friend paid me a compliment on my grammar but complained that I used very weird structures which came from translating from English and a little German, which I'd learned earlier, in my head. For a long time I had a tendency to put infinitives at the end of sentences...

"Co to za typ/rodzaj budynku?"

If I'm asking about function, I can imagine myself asking 'Do czego służy ten budynek?" (What's that building for?) or maybe even "Co robią w tym budynku?" (What do they do in that building?) not very elegant but... then neither am I....

Work / Are Poles workaholics? [164]

people in the west of Poland were closer to Germans in their attitude to work.

Well that's where I am and it's very relative. One thing I noticed back in the late 90s was that the inequality gap was much more visible in Warsaw than former Prussia - and the most wealthy in the latter (which I had some indirect contact with) were more likely to hide their wealth or try to blend in while the better off in Warsaw were much more into conspicuous consumption...

I'm not sure how valid that still is. I did read an article about mentalność wielkopolska (more German than usually found in Poland) but the conclusion was that after decades of attack and undermining in the PRL it's now really only found in Poznań (within the city limits).

Work / Are Poles workaholics? [164]

Short answer : No. They are traditionally more about working to live rather than living to work.

And due to generations of low wages and bad working conditions they're not especially hard workers absent sufficient compensation.
But when they are well paid and have decent working conditions they often work very hard.
