Not to hijack the photo thread and turn it into a vacation destinations thread, BUT...have you ever been to Portugal? If so, thoughts, please.

Admin: delete this please. I meant to post this elsewhere.

All your base will belong to us: 1974

At the early stage of AI taking over the world, evil computers enslaving humans in matrix etc., this huge computer was built by Electronic Works Elwro in Wrocław. It was called Odra 1305. The CPU (in the photo above) weighed about 280-350 kilograms (depending on the version) and the weight of the entire thing was approximately 7.5 tons. 346 of those monsters were built and I bet they are still out there somewhere, plotting to wipe out humanity.

And the first computer magazine was published in 1985. Bajtek was the name. My brother in law lent me his Amiga mini computer in 1989 and I bought my first own PC in 1992.

I know, I had almost every single issue! Got my first computer in 1985, when I was still in pre-school, but it was just a ZX Spectrum 48k. Amiga was an incredible machine but it appeared on the market in 1987 and was quite expensive back then. Got my first PC (386) in exactly the same year you bought yours. It was pure magic. Aaaah... the nostalgia. They don't make computers like these anymore ;)

More expensive than Spectrum??? I don`t remember such details. Sclerosis doesn`t ache but is a nuicance.....

More expensive than Spectrum?

Way more expensive. 16-bit computers (Amiga, Atari ST) were more expensive than 8-bit ones (C64, Atari XL/XE, Amstrad) and Spectrum was one of the cheapest 8-bit machines.

Pol-Shorpy Photo Thread
Excellent thread but bears a silly name which I can never remember and lose a lot of time looking for it when I want to post sth coz I always try to find Sharp instead of Shorpy. Torq, can you assign your threads more practical names for the pure convenience of elderly posters like me?

I just read that
The Germans sentenced a 99-year-old woman. She was a secretary at the Stutthof concentration camp

A 99-year-old German employee of the former KL Stutthof camp was found guilty of aiding and abetting the deaths of over 9,000 people. The defense demanded the acquittal of Irmgard F. The court found that the woman had acted voluntarily. The sentence of two years' imprisonment was upheld.

AmaSSing!

Let me remind you that the last public execution in Poland concerned German workers of the Stutthof camp. Thousands of spectators came to see it. A show like in the Middle Ages! AmaSSing!

This secretary sentenced today was so fekking lucky.hahahaha

It took place in Gdańsk in 1946.

Tiny cities: 2024

Saint Jacob's church in Opatowiec, officially the smallest city in Poland with only 308 inhabitants.

The second smallest city in Poland, Wiślica (population 477), is proud of its beautiful Gothic basilica (Collegiate Basilica of the Birth of the Holiest Virgin Mary).

Don't you have a synagogue or mosque?

synagogue

The post was about the smallest cities in Poland, so it's difficult to find an active synagogue there... BUT... in the 3rd smallest city in Poland (Ciepielów, population 738) there are ruins of an old synagogue...

Ciepielów

... working synagogues can be found in larger cities.

mosque

Of course we have, but there are very few muslims in Poland so the mosques are usually in big cities (Warsaw, Gdańsk)... BUT... there are beautiful old wooden mosques of Polish Tatars in small villages of Bohoniki and Kruszyniany...

Bohoniki

idyllic wheat field.

Pure wheat fields aren`t idyllic. To be in idyllic environment, you need a small tree giving shade, a stream, a female and a fujarka.

You and your dirty mind, Pawian, tsk tsk.

A beautiful wheat field can be perfectly idyllic without any superfluous "fujarkas" ekhm

Baumschulenweg (East-Berlin)

Lovely neighbourhood, BB.

It always warms my heart when I see a man celebrating and delighting in the place where he lives. Can't stand all those grouches who think that grass is always greener on the other side. Applause for all local patriots! :)

Salt of the Earth: 1248

Bochnia salt mine - the oldest one in Poland - opened in 1248, is located about 40km from Cracow and is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its underground corridors and chambers, as well as the medieval mining machinery are well worth seeing.

Red berets marching: 2024

Military commanders and top politicians looking proudly on the marching "Red Berets" during this year's 15th August military parade. Red (burgundy, to be more exact) berets are worn by airborne and air cavalry, and deservedly earned the reputation of elite forces of Wojsko Polskie. They are often confused with red (scarlet, to be more exact) berets of Military Police units.

Hmm... looking at this photo again, I'm not quite sure if it's airborne or military police marching (probably the latter). Oh, well. *salutes anyway*

Yes! Black and white are colours!

Military commanders and top politicians

Your photo reminded me of the arrival of caskets with the remains of victims of Air Force 1 crash in 2010.

Satan's favourite sin. No wonder a commie sick f*ck wants to wallow in it.

Religion is the opiate of the masses.
