The Month of Our Lady

We are almost in May, and May in Poland is a traditional Marian month. Tomorrow we are off to Kaszuby for our Majówka; on our way we will surely pass many Marian shrines like this one...

... and I will definitely attend Mass in Sanctuary of Mother of God the Queen of Families in Kościerzyna...

Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Królowej Rodzin

... so if you have any special prayer requests, let me know and when I'm there I will say a part of Rosary in your intention.

The Month of Our Lady

Reading it on home page, I thought you mentioned the Holy picture of Black Madonna`s journey over Poland.

In 1960s, communists used to arrest the picture to discourage the crowds honouring it.

The tradition still exists today. It is called the Peregrination of the Holy Image. Our village hosted it about 4 years ago.

... and because the best way to encourage Poles to do something is to officially forbid it, it only increased the Marian devotion of the masses. :)

Black skin, white-and-red heart: 2023

This lovely photo was taken during the last year's Independence Day march in Warsaw. In the photo we can see a group of Polish patriots; one of them, of African origin, is carrying a flag whilst praying to Jesus Christ King of Poland.

Kania, please forgive me, but I almost had an aneurysm looking at this photo!

My heart goes out to this man.

Michael Izunwanne

Is he naturalized or born in Poland?

Born and raised in Austria from Polish mother and Nigerian father, but feels Polish. :) Started playing for Poland at U16 level and now continues for U17.

but feels Polish. :)

Does he say "kurwa" every third time, drink beer and eat bigos and żurek? Because if not, he is only naturalized.

Candy Floss: 1960s-1980s

This pure sugar treat was an indispensable part of various fairs all over the People's Republic of Poland. One kilogram of sugar was enough to make about 30 of those sweetness bombs...

They were usually sold from small two-wheeled carts, and kids all over PRL practically inhaled them, to the detriment of their teeth and weight. :)

Universal really, back in the day. Nasty stuff.

What I remember was that they were just plain sugar and white. In the US cotton candy was usually had food coloring (usually pink but other pastel colors occured)

Correct. In the old days they were snow white. These days if you see a candy floss cart, they sell it in all the colours of the rainbow.

I can't imagine that PiS supporters are very happy about that....

But at least they don't set the candy floss carts on fire, like they did to the rainbow in Saviour Square.

Candy Floss

Here in USia we call it cotton candy. I loved the stuff as a kid. It was good for the soul. Once i'd catch whiff of the smell of that hot sugar in the air my heart would flutter and a sense of bliss would consume my being.

When my youngest eats it, she's transported to a different dimension-one of near ecstasy. I explain to her heaven is cotton candy only infinitely netter. The proposition of something being netter than cotton candy to her is unfathomable.

I've always wondered how the catechists at primary schools manage to explain complicated theological ideas to children. :) I told you, Anti, your pedagogical talent is wasted in your current job.

There have been leaks of the new Russian defense minister's text messages and emails...

Belousov writes to his wife about his commitment to the Mother of God.

I thought you might appreciate this.

The guy is a religious fanatic.

Here's a short description of some of the wild sh*t he does:

В 2013 году Белоусов также дал семь обетов Богородице, среди которых - читать по 30 страниц в день, не гневаться и не завидовать, правильно питаться, каждый день звонить маме, заниматься спортом и главное - соблюдать «правила секс-гигиены».

Ukraine is well and truly f*cked if we truly have an incorruptible and zealous new man in charge.

I liked it but the more I would have.... the less I would like it. You either get sugar muss all over your face or fingers or both...

Nice. A fellow knight of Mary holding high office. *thumbs up*

Good for him! We need more people who treat their faith seriously in this godless world.

Nice

This man is a big change from the lover of ceremony and regalia that was Shoigu.

Ukraine should tremble.
